Jeremy assumed today was going to be pretty boring, but he was mistaken. His mum had woke him up early saying they had to go to Diagon Alley to go school shopping and Jeremy took as long as he possibly could to get ready. He dragged his feet because he hated going school shopping, especially with his mother. He loved his mother, she meant the world to him, but she had zero style. She always wanted Jeremy to cut his hair and tuck in his shirt, and that just wasn't his thing. It had been about half an hour before his mother realized that he was taking so long on purpose. There was still water dripping from his red hair when she beat down on the door. "Hurry up Jeremy, we've got to go before it gets too busy. You know how it gets crowded in the summer." He groaned when she reminded him of the massive amounts of people he was going to have to push through. There was something about the sunshine and warm weather that brought everyone and their mother (literally) to Diagon Alley. Jeremy loved people, he loved crowds, but his mother did not. He realized the longer he took the more miserable she would be so he stopped moving half pace and quickly finished getting ready. He tossed the towel that he had wrapped around his shoulders into the corner of the room and yanked open dresser drawers.

After throwing clothing everywhere, as usual, he was finally dressed and ready. His apparel wasn't as colorful as usual but he was okay with that because he thought the shirt was funny. He knew he might look a little bit out of place, in the middle of Diagon Alley wearing something so basic. Shorts and a tee, instead of the normal wizarding robes, but he didn't mind. It was way too hot to wear a cloak today and his mother must of assumed as much from him by now. He didn't mind cloaks, since the cape made him feel like batman, but not when it was 25 Celsius outside. Then it just made him feel like he was drowning. Sliding his sunglasses into his pocket he met his mother downstairs. She seemed relieved that he was ready and stepped into the fireplace. After the flames had enveloped her and she disappeared Jeremy followed her to the Leaky Cauldron. After that it was straight to business. She led him behind the shop, through the brick wall, and down the narrow packed streets into a few different places. He didn't think the letter from Hogwarts had come yet, so he didn't know what books he would need, but his mom seemed like she was on a mission. She bought him new robes since he had grown about half a foot since the beginning of last term. He was happy about that, since his old ones were pretty worn.

Jeremy was terrible on clothes. He got muddy, he got rough, and he usually didn't bother to patch up holes. The fresh black robes with the gold and red emblem on them were put into a box and Jeremy carried them to the next place. It was all quills and parchment and stuffy things and Jeremy was uninterested. His mother seemed to pick up on the fact that he was getting bored because he started touching everything in site. He was fidgeting and it wouldn't be long until he started singing, trying to cure his own boredom, and embarrassed his mum in the nice shop. With the sweet voice Jeremy had learned was her 'do this or I won't be as polite' voice she simply told him he could go, that she would finish up the shopping and meet him at the Leaky Cauldron in a few hours. He kissed her cheek and darted out of the store. He really did love his mother, she knew him so well. As soon as he got back out on to the sunny street he looked both ways. It was the summer and this was Diagon Alley.. he knew if he waited long enough he would run into someone he knew from school. Jeremy reached into his pocket and instantly smiled, he had forgotten what was inside. Days earlier, the last time he wore these shorts, Jeremy had concocted a prank that he hadn't been able to try out yet.

He'd read about it in a magazine and the idea was pretty basic. He pulled out a fake galleon from his pocket and bit down on it. Even though it was fake it was a pretty good replica. It almost felt like the real thing. Next the pulled out the finishing line that he had attached to the coin and then looked around for a good place to set up. Two shops down there was a small alley that had crates blocking the entrance to it. He could see over the crates but he knew it'd be a good hiding place. He waited for a lull in passerbys and then he set his trap. Placing the shiny fake coin on the ground and then trailing the line back to the crates. Hoping he was being sneaky Jeremy climbed up and over the boxes and then he waited. Someone tried to pick up the coin, but as soon as their hands got close the Gryffindor boy slowly tugged at the coin. The old lady who had attempted to cash in looked around, surprised, and tried again. Jeremy had to hold his breath to stop from laughing. After three failed attempts the woman gave up and looked around with a nasty glare on her face. He ducked and hoped she hadn't seen his mess of red hair hiding behind the boxes. When nothing happened he peeked above the boxes and saw that she was gone.

And then he let out a roar of a laugh. Suddenly he knew today was going to be a good day. Catching his breath and using his free hand to hold his side Jeremy waited for the next victim to arrive.
