Finding time to see each other between both of their busy careers was much harder than Maddox Stanton would have liked. But, he was thankful that today, they were both able to find the time. He’d known that Alice had to go up against some fairly nasty exams, and was anxious to hear how they had gone, even though he had been sure that she would pass them with flying colors. Living so close to the Ministry and St.Mungo’s did have it’s perks, like being able to owl each other on short notice and figure out when the best times to try and meet would be. Some days it didn’t work, and some days, it did, like today, and of course those were his favorite days. Alice was always so perky, and just bright and happy, and often was good at bringing out the softer side in him, so it was a no brainer for the man to enjoy spending time with his girlfriend, of a whole eight months, which he could hardly believe, but it made him happy none the less. He knew she was probably already at the door to his flat, doing her best to wait patiently, and failing a bit. The thought of that alone made the man smile as he made his way to the door.
As he opened it, he knew enough by now to brace himself, and he’d been right, as soon as he had the door open enough for her to see all of him, she had launched herself at him and was wrapped around him. Making sure not to drop her, the ex Slytherin grinned and returned her affections, Merlin it was good to see her. Laughing softly Max responded to her question “I’m doing just fine today, how are you? That’s the more important question, of course” He was sure that most of her antics were for his benefit, trying to make him laugh or smile, and he had to admit they got him almost every time, not that he minded too much. Especially when he got to see her so excited and happy, and know that he was part of that reason, as sappy as it was. As the witch poked his nose, Max playfully raised his eyebrows, he wondered if this was the moment where she finally told him how her exams had gone, he hoped so, he was curious! Ah, it was, and she knew how to make him anxious, that was for sure. He found her enthusiasm infectious as he felt himself grinning again, and let out a little whoop of celebration “You did, huh? That’s fantastic. I knew you would, without a doubt. I’m so proud of you, Alice” He wasn’t lying, he really was proud of her, it wasn’t an easy task to get where she was or where she was going, and he knew his sister was in the same boat.
He could tell the witch clinging to him really was as excited as she said she was, and he wouldn’t have had it any other way. But just as he was about to suggest they do something fancy to celebrate, she seemed to get distracted by something, on his cheek? What could that be? And then it hit him, she had seen the little bruise he’d managed to get by accidentally forgetting to watch where he had been going during rush hour at the Ministry. He’d managed to get himself attacked by the numerous flying paper planes that were supposed to simply been delivering the memos, but had gone rogue instead. It was a ridiculous story, and he wasn’t sure she’d believe him if he told her. So he did his best to explain “Oh that little scratch? I doubt you’d believe me if I told you, it’s an incredibly ridiculous story. But to start, I got it at work. I was attacked by a flock of memos, believe it or not, sometime yesterday around lunch, but no it doesn’t hurt. I figured It’d take care of itself..” He trailed off, curious to see her reaction to his tale, wondering if she’d think he was lying or not. He was touched though, by the fact that Alice had been so concerned, regardless of how silly the incident had been.
