[Solved] Characters sharing the same name?

I know that it's a general, sort of unofficial rule on here that characters in the same school year/house/member group can't have the same first name (which, from my understanding, is to reduce confusion), but I wondered if there were any exceptions to this? Billie just made @Sebastian Chatard and I was also thinking/hoping to make a BB third year named Sébastien. (He'll be an Ombrelune though, if that makes any difference?) They're going to be friends, and we'd thought that part of the reason they become friends is because they have the same name. They will have different nicknames and be referred to as said nicknames much of the time though.

If the above isn't allowed as is (which I understand if it's not), could I have my 3rd year BB boy have his first name as Sébastien, but go by his middle name and be called that by everyone (besides maybe his parents)?

If you're both okay about it and are actually planning RPs based around them sharing a name, I think that's a very valid reason to make an exception to the rule!

My only concern is, as you say, confusion, in as much as members might have to look twice to remember *which* Sebastien they're threading with! Though now we have the lovely little mini profiles I think this is going to be less of an issue and. as you say, they're at least in different houses.

I think it's cool. It's already been discussed and now that it's part of a plot, it's clear that neither of you have a problem with it and that was the main concern. The different spellings and the different houses and the mini profiles, as Carys mentioned, makes it a lot clearer for members and should lessen the confusion. So yeah. Looks good. .^^;

In theory I think it could be fine in a different situation. However with them being third years, plotting just because of a similar name might have already been done in their past? I'm not saying it couldn't still happen, just that it seems unlikely. I've read through the conversations you and Billie had on Sebastian's classified and it doesn't sound like she actually said it would be okay for both of you to have the same/similar first name -- she proposed you use the middle name instead, and I honestly think that's safer, both to avoid confusion and because Billie's character is now already Sorted. Bringing in another Sebastian in the same year after one is already established, even if you put that WIP over your other WIPs, could imply that there were mix-ups that weren't played out before (they knew exactly which Sebastian they were talking to before, and now there's a possibility of two that were in school all along). Georgia had a similar situation where she wanted to name her professor Theodore and ended up making it Emmett's middle name instead. So personally I'd have to say no to the same/similar first names, sorry hun! ^_^

Okay. Yeah. Now I feel kinda bad, cause when I read my comment/question back, it does imply that I meant the plot with them bonding over having the same name would be happening in the future, but I was more thinking it would have happened back in their first year, when they first met. And I honestly thought she was okay with it, which is why I then brought it up here to see if you guys would allow it. Like I said originally though, I understand why you would say no, so I think I will just use the idea of him going by his middle name, if that's alright?
