throwing it down two hundred at a time [aline]

While Edith Holthouse was never one to pass up an opportunity for drinking, especially these days, this place is definitely not the kind of place she would have ever picked for the occasion. It wasn't her usual dark and smokey pub that was populated by the older, grumpier regulars that Edith felt so at home with. Rather, it was a "night club" which until this evening, the woman had successfully avoided. The dance floor was given precedence over the bar, all the women inside were wearing heels, and more than one guy had nodded in her direction as she fought the crowd to get to the small bar. Needless to say, Edith was more than a tad uncomfortable.

She thought it a little strange that Aline hadn't wanted to meet until midnight, though it all started to make sense once she had arrived at the club. When Aline had proposed the location for their evening out, the Obliviator assumed it was just a small pub tucked away in a dark corner as she hadn't heard of it before, but apparently Edith was just oblivious to knowing about one of the more popular spots for nightlife in London. She still wasn't sure how she had made it past the guy at the door as she wasn't wearing a dress, wasn't wearing shows that were even made for a woman. Instead, she had on a pair of old jeans, her pair of stolen-from-her-father oxfords, a white t-shirt, and a ratty, overly large sweater. In short, she was fairly out of her element here.

The witch finally acquired a much-too-expensive watery beer and scooched herself around the edge of the dance floor, trying to look for her friend amidst all the bodies and the blinking lights. It was proving to be much more difficult than she had bargained for. Edith had seen the other Gryffindor for a grand total of five minutes in the past four or five years. After she had returned to England for the Battle, Edith hadn't bothered to reach out to anyone from before the war. She had spent the year previous in France, with only one or two contacts remaining between her and the wizarding world in the British Isles, and hadn't seen any need to improve upon that once she started working at the Ministry.

Her group of wizard acquaintances had since expanded to include other Obliviators, other Ministry workers, and a couple of other random people, and the only thing she had in common with them was the drinking. On the muggle side of London, Edith considered a vital part of the Manchester United fan base; her flat was located quite close to a pub that was taken over by United supporters during every match and on days when no match occurred, Edith was a regular there, alongside the old, grumpy muggles that she had grown to adore.

Upon her most recent return from Hogwarts after spending a month in the dome, Edith had stepped up her alcohol consumption even more. She was currently on leave from work, trying to get her head back in the right place to be mentally fit to literally mess with other peoples' minds, but had instead just concentrated on not thinking about anything at all. She still had to check in with her boss every once in a while, and it was on the most recent occasion for this that she had run into Aline Stanton. Edith had been working with her brother, but she had never bothered to ask after the girl that she had been friends with in school. Aline was there for some reason that Edith had since forgotten, but after they had made the necessary small talk for five minutes, Edith had suggested they continue their conversation over drinks. While Edith was not exactly sober for this meeting at the Ministry, she was trying to come off as such, and catching up would be so much easier with a greater quantity of alcohol in her system.

So Aline had suggested a place and a time, and that was that.

Thankfully, this watery beer was not Edith's first of the evening, and it didn't take her too long to finish it and decide that she needed to be drinking liquor instead. She abandoned her search on the dance floor and squeezed her way back to the bar to order a gin and tonic. She sipped on it heartily as she resumed her fruitless search for Aline.
