He rolled his eyes for her benefit even though he was pretty sure she saw right through his bluster. "At least you brought me a cupcake," he muttered. "All Maverick brought me was my Potions homework," he said with a frown. Not like he was going to be writing that essay while stuck in here. His eyes already ached and he wasn't about to give himself more of headache. Then again, would the professor be lenient even if he was sick? The thought made him worry a bit and glance at his books, wondering if he should at least try to be diligent.

Somehow he had pulled it off and she didn't suspect him, or at least, not that he could tell. Why did he feel somewhat disappointed by that? He couldn't shake the feeling and it was only added to when she glanced at the clock and signaled she had to go. He frowned further as he made busy settling the blankets around him, getting a little chill. "Oh right, you probably have to get to your next class, right?" he said, his frown pulling up a little as she poked him and he nudged her with his leg.

“Ooh, fun,” Tomie said, wrinkling her nose. If she was in the hospital wing, there was no way she’d be doing any homework. Tomie was stubborn, though – she’d probably be like Wendy, who refused to go until she was basically fainting. Maybe that was something they all had in common, she thought, amused by the disdain in JR’s expression. “We have potions with the Hufflepuffs next,” she added. She wasn’t looking forward to whatever homework they were about to get.

“Yeah in like two minutes,” Tomie replied with an easygoing laugh. “Left my bag with Benny, poor thing,” she said, laughing some more, shaking the bed a little. It wasn’t like her to skip out on lunch early, but she’d wanted to check in on JR, and share the gossip, pick his brain, et cetera. Her plan was to be back in the hall with Benny before lunch finished, but it didn’t look like it was going to be a success. She just hoped her best friend telepathy made it to him in time, so they could meet halfway instead of her having to go all the way back to the great hall before they headed to class together.

"Think the prof will dock points if my essay is unintelligible?" he asked, sarcasm on his tone, but the worry was real. He wasn't typically one to blow off schoolwork and while he didn't consider a teacher's pet either, he didn't want his professors thinking he was purposefully trying to shirk his assignments.

Two minutes? He glanced at the clock and then back at Tomie and smirked even behind his tissue as he blew his nose, again. "You're never gonna make it in time, Vos," he told her with a little shake of his head. He did kind of wonder if she would've given up part of her lunch break for anyone in their circle or if this gossip really warranted it's own visit. "Go on then, get going," he said shooing her, smiling at the sound of her laughter even though he'd rather her stay. Or at least take him with her. "Don't want you getting sick too," he added.

“There’s totally a spell for that,” Tomie said, waving a hand to dismiss his worries. She didn’t know – actually didn’t even think it was true – but she was just vibing lightly off of his sarcasm. “Oh yeah?” she shot back immediately, eyebrows raised in response to what she interpreted as a challenge. He was probably right, but her dumb-Gryffindor brain couldn’t resist rising just a bit.

“Aaah, okay,” Tomie said, laughing some more as she bounced off of the bed and onto her feet. The brunette stretched her arms above her head, feeling restless even though she’d only been sitting for a moment. Potions was gonna be a chore for sure. “Okay, okay,” she said, raising her hands. “Feel better soon,” she said with a grin, giving him a wave as she glanced back at the clock. “Seeya!” she called over her shoulder, jogging lightly out of the room.

"If there was, we'd all be geniuses," he said with a grimace even though in the current moment the idea of a fix-all spell was very appealing. Maybe he'd just have to convince Bean to help him with the Potions essay if it came down to it and he really couldn't concentrate. He noticed Pomfrey giving him glances and he hoped that she wasn't about to come over to do another check and another dose of the nasty potion she kept giving out. It really tasted like moldy slime.

"Yeah," JR answered her challenge with his own, his brow perked and another glance at the block. No doubt she would race back to class just to prove him wrong. "Thanks," he muttered even as she bounced out of the Hospital Wing, her smile the last thing he saw as he tried not to be jealous that she was leaving and he was stuck in here with Pomfrey still.
