this wide, wide world [montse]

Wini pulled her braid over her shoulder nervously and fiddled with the end as she smiled politely at two healers who were walking by but didn't really notice her. Well, at least that meant neither of them were Montse. She didn't exactly know who she was looking for, but she knew that Montse was aware she was coming. The witch at the front desk had confirmed as much and had sent her to this waiting room, but she couldn't help the nerves she felt. She was excited and had been looking forward to this for a week since she had confirmed the date with Montse. She had even owled Marin about it, probably a few more letters in one hour than was absolutely necessary, but she kept thinking of questions for him and wanted his advice. Lip was staying with her too, but it was always more difficult to pull words from him.

With her nerves making her antsy, she busied herself by sitting in one of the chairs by the doors, just in case Monste showed up in the next few moments, and flipping through a Witch Weekly that was sitting there idly, the wizard on the cover looking bored and flashed her a hopeful look as she had picked it up. A few pages in, she realized she had already read this issue and skipped to the back half where an article on the band 3Spelled took up three full pages complete with moving pictures. She didn't bother reading the interview again, but she did smile at the photos of the three rock wizards who made up one of her favorite bands.

Then the thought occurred to her that she didn't want to seem frivolous or distracted so she immediately but the magazine down and stood up, smoothing her outfit, the most professional one she could put together. Her best pair of dress robes, pressed and ironed carefully. Wini wanted to make a great first impression. She wanted Montse to like her even though she hoped she already did. Montse's kindness seemed infused in every word she had written so that's what made Wini all the more excited about this shadowing day.

She glanced up as someone came through the doors and gave the dark-haired witch a tentative smile, wondering if this was the witch she had been writing..

Montserrat had heard word that Winifred was waiting for her as soon as she had arrived, the receptionist taking special care to send someone to let her know just as she had requested. The healer loved the team she worked with and found that as Professor Bellantoni had suggested, spending time getting to know and build relationships with all of the staff, not just the healers she admired, helped things run more smoothly when she went around asking for assistance or special favors. Although Winifred and Montserrat had agreed to meet, the healer wondered if the girl would show up. She definitely seemed interested in learning more about life as a Healer but Montserrat also understood that there were probably more exciting floors than the Maternity & Pediatrics Ward. If Winifred was interested, Montserrat would be sure to introduce her to the right people so that she could shadow them next time.

The witch had been in the middle of finishing up a consultation when the assistant to the front desk popped his head in to announce that a Miss Winifred had arrived. It took a little longer than Montserrat expected so she felt apologetic about making Winifred wait but as soon as she was done, she wandered into the waiting room, trying to see if she’d be able to spot the person she was looking for. Montserrat had never met Winifred before and wasn’t sure what to expect apart from what seemed to be a very bubbly personality, it was part of what she had gathered through their letter writing. There were several young girls that Montserrat assumed were around Winifred’s age but was able to tell it was her immediately by the way in which she glanced up at her, almost as if expecting her. Montserrat smiled, she was so pretty.

“Hello! You must be Wini,” she started “may I call you that?” she added, not really sure if that was a fact but willing to bet on her gut feeling, Montserrat was usually good at these sorts of things. “I’m Healer Fábregas, but please call me Montse!” she continued excitedly, “I hope I didn’t keep you for long, I got caught up in the middle of a consultation but come along, I’ve got some time before my next appointment, let’s have a chat?” she suggested.

Wini's smile grew wider as the witch who must be Montse greeted her. She took a step closer and felt this warm energy from the healer that she liked immediately. She wasn't sure if she'd every met someone more pretty too! "Hi, yes, I'm Wini, it's so nice to meet you!" she gushed as she stuck out her hand like she had practiced early in her room, remembering to shake firmly like William hand mentioned but not to squeeze too hard. "No, no, I wasn't waiting long at all, thank you so much for letting me shadow you today, I know you must be so busy," she added as she clasped her hands together in front of her and hoping and praying her presence wasn't too much of an inconvenience.

She was already so interested in this place and she had only seen the waiting room, but she had always liked the idea of helping people and becoming a healer has been something that's been floating around in her mind for the past year or so. Wini was very well-aware of how lucky she was that William knew Montse and that Montse was so nice to invite her here. She really didn't want to mess this up today!

"I'd love to chat or see whatever you'd normally be doing," she told the healer, touching her blonde waves that were over her shoulder. "But of course, I don't want to be in the way or anything," she added with a rush.

“It’s so nice to meet you as well,” her smile widened a little, offering her hand in return to shake hers. It was the English way, Montserrat knew this from experience working in St. Mungo’s, but felt very professional all the same. It was certainly a good first impression. “It’s no problem whatsoever, I don’t have the pleasure of having any shadow me or ask me questions about the work I do so hopefully you have a good time and I can answer everything to your satisfaction,” she continued, as she started to walk slowly in the direction of her office.

“It’s pretty slow today, but I do have a few appointments later today, I can ask if you can sit in on one of them if you’d like?” she offered. It wasn’t particularly standard procedure but Montserrat figured that as long as it wasn’t anything that would violate the privacy of her patients or a major accident, it didn’t hurt for Wini to see how things were handled on a day to day basis. When Montserrat had initially considered becoming a Healer, she was more interested in the interacting with and helping patients directly rather than the high stakes excitement some found in the Emergency Ward.

“You won’t be in the way,” she reassured her, “Have you had something to eat? If not we can also go visit the cafeteria,” she offered. “But first, let me show you what one of our consultation rooms look like,” she added, stopping before she reached the end of the hall where her office was located, knocking gently on the room before opening it when it was obvious that it was unoccupied. “Have a look,” she nodded into the room.

Wini smiled happily, glad that Montserrat didn't seem to mind her shadowing. Wini had been looking forward to this for the past week. "I'm sure you will," she agreed with a nod, thinking that any information Montse was willing to give would be more than appreciated.

"I'd love to sit in for one of your appointments," Wini answered. "What kind of appointment is it? Do you have a lot of them every day?" she asked, her mind filling with questions at the thought. She tucked her blonde hair behind one ear and wondered if this was what her life could look like in the future. The idea sent shivers of excitement but also nervousness through her. She really wanted to help people, but she was also very nervous about the idea too. She didn't know the first thing about healing beyond basic skills and it almost seemed like an insurmountable task. But with a glance at Montserrat, she remembered the words she had written to her. If Montse thought she could do this, maybe she actually could.

At Montse's question, she shook her head with a kind smile. "I'm ok, but thank you," Wini said. She had remembered to eat something before she arrived and she didn't want to waste any time eating. Plus, she didn't want Montse to think she had to babysit her at meals or something. As they stopped at the consultation room, Wini peeked her head in and nodded. "Nice," she said, impressed. "Do you have a lot of consultations?"
