[solved] DH playtime questions
« on: January 09, 2014, 10:39:01 PM »
So I wasn't on MH during DH playtime, and I only know (and can assume) very little about what actually went on at school. I've read stuff about torturing first years, but what else happened? Can anyone give me any ideas what a 4th year half-blood would have gone through during that playtime? XDD I really would love for Tess to be as accurate as possible. Also, what happened on the night Dumbledore died? Did they all get sent home immediately, or go home the next day? Did the Hogwarts Express run normally?

We played out with the Carrows some of the stuff mentioned in the book. For example, during a muggle studies class, Wini spoke up, not understanding why muggles were bad and one of the Carrows (can't remember which >>) had the other students in the class hex Wini xD I don't know if that actually helps you though .... haha

Definitely helps! I'm sure Tess would've been in that class!

Hmm.  The whole atmosphere was extremely dark.  Students were getting pretty severe punishments for relatively minor crimes.  Most people had no idea what had happened to their Muggleborn friends.  There was a lot of Slytherin favoritism from Snape (and the Carrows).  There was this student-organized club that favored blood purity (I remember something about care packages for Squibs, whose magic had been "stolen" by Muggleborns).  Called SIP, I think it was?  Strength in Purity?  There was also the DA hiding out in the Room of Requirement.  For the most part, I think it was pretty close to canon, with some additives.  Slytherin and Hufflepuff were neck-in-neck for the Quidditch Cup, but Slytherin won.  Pretty sure Gryffindor lost every match.  Their Seeker kind of sucked, but Potter's a tough act to follow.

Anyone correct me if I'm wrong?

I feel like I'm missing stuff.

Thank you! <3333 I assumed there was a lot of use of the Cruciatus Curse, by students and the Carrows? Was there any other kinds of forced torture by a student to a student, or would that have been common or acceptable?

It was Amycus! I remember, because I played him.

If you have any Carrow questions, I'll be happy to answer them. I played Amycus and Sioban played Alecto.

They sure did. Psh, their seeker was fine. it was the captain that sucked. Though,  you're right, tough act to follow

Amycus didn't just throw the cruciatus curse around, actually. If I remember, that was only in detention.
But he made Wini stand in front of the class and had people take turns torturing her, basically, to try to teach them how compassion and empathy make you weak in the face of an opponent, and that in order to effectively duel, you must be able to disassociate yourself from the weaker aspects of humanity and become a stronger type of man.

SIP held a Yule ball and not only did they match up the students according to  blood status, they had pureblood entertainers. I remember being quite busy in that thread because Celestina who I played at the time (as a pureblood and terrified for her family) sang at the ball and Dermod gave some kind of motivational speech. Yes, he was actually allowed to spout his vile anti-mudblood propaganda in front of hundreds of innocent kids!

Students who were too scared to speak out carried out other acts of rebellion. Hannah Abbott stood guard while Neville and the others wrote slogans on the walls and in muggle studies class she quietly tore her textbook to shreds over the course of the year (there was a little heap of shredded paper around her at the end of every class) and pretended to be really trying to curse other kids when really she was doing the exact opposite. Plus some professors did what they could to protect students - turning a blind eye if they saw them out of their common rooms or making up reasons why they might have been running errands for them so  they didn't get tortured.

Amycus and Alecto were awesome. They weren't the one-dimensional killers that are portrayed in the books, they genuinely believed in what they were doing and that made them more scary. The lesson with Wini was horrible.

And honestly, I don't remember what we did after Dumbledore's death. The Hogwarts express did run normally at the end of term that year, but I can't recall any other details just now.

There was also the Ward, a place where muggleborns or those who we're know supporters of muggles and muggleborns could go for safety. We had a whole board of the place with a layout of the building and how it worked. It was located near Iverness but no one but those in charge knew where it was. If Tess or her family were the type to help others they could've volunteer to teach or help the wounded there.

Lorin's family was super involved with this. Her mother, a retired auror, worked there pretty much full time. So if Tess' family was the type to do that, she would have met up with Lo/her family there over the summer before.

Also, thank you! I think it's a lot more interesting when villains are more than just 'i wanna kill/torture people because it's fun har har,' so I tried to do that with Amycus.

Actually, Tess's father is also a retired auror (he retired at the end of the first wizarding war), and was semi-ootp allied I guess? My plan for Tess over that summer was to have her go to her uncle Bart's house because her parents were harboring Muggleborns and they didn't want her around in case they got caught. So perhaps Tess's father worked with the ward to have people cycled in and out of her house in Cork? Or maybe just ones from Ireland?
