While the idea of looking for Rompos was far from exciting, Cheyenne was eager to do it. She was finally let loose from that stuffy school, and for the first time in her life she was taken alongside her eldest brother in order to help with hunting. The fact that they were merely looking for rompos that escaped from a nearby zoo wasn't something that could dampen her excitement of finally being able to do some of the work. How much work she was going to be allowed to do was yet to be seen, but she had high hopes for this summer. Even though she was only sixteen, certainly her years of experience of being raised by hunter parents were enough to prove that she was very capable of doing the same job that the rest of them were. Well, the rest of them excluding her loser brother Silas, of course. He went on to some boring job that Cheyenne could care less about. How someone from her family could choose to do something so lame was far beyond her comprehension. Not to mention that in Cheyenne's eyes Silas had just proved where he was loyalties were, and they weren't with the family. They were to himself. Basically, he was a loser.
Worse, she learned sometime after school that said loser would be joining them this summer. After he decided to leave the family for some dumb old job, she really couldn't understand why he would travel with them. Didn't he know that this was her first summer being able to actually be a hunter? It meant the world for her, and everything was supposed to be centered on her. Finally. Usually, the focus was on either Ashley or Silas, leading Cheyenne to believe that her skills just weren't up to par. For the first time, she must have proven herself worthy and now someone else who wasn't even really a part of hunting thought he could tag along? The worst part was that Cheyenne knew that she needed to keep mouth shut, and that was just not something she felt she could do for such a long time. She knew that Silas and Ashley had a special relationship that she couldn't really understand, so it was pretty obvious to her that Ashley must be thrilled with the fact. While she was far from it. It was hardly fair, but she had chosen to tag along with Ashley, so she knew she had to be on her best behavior. If she failed, maybe he would never take her again? She could hardly allow that to happen.
The fact that Ashley took Jane along with them didn't bother her in the least. Despite the fact that she wanted to be the center of attention this time around, the thought of another person outside of the family wanting to be a hunter was pretty awesome to her. She was still fairly surprised that no one at her school had taken the bait yet and lined up to join Cheyenne, but here Jane was and she hadn't even been able to tell her how awesome hunting was. Maybe Ashley was just better at that too. Well, she figured she could learn a thing or two from him then. She was determined to recruit some of the people she knew at school this year, if it was the last thing she did. And she would prefer it wasn't the last thing she did.
Once she heard Jane's question, she snapped back to attention, focusing on the future task at hand. She was bouncing on the balls of her feet, and it was probably obvious to anyone looking at her that she was beyond excited to be a part of this expedition. It took vast amounts of willpower not to run around like a crazy person announcing to the world that she was finally a hunter. That she was finally good enough to be taken along with at least some of her family. "Ashley's pretty awesome, I'm sure we can get them all," she announced cheerfully. Since Ashley was the oldest and always had a hand in raising them, Cheyenne had developed a deep trust in her brother. He was pretty much standing atop a pedestal in her head, and she would be very surprised if there was anything that he couldn't do. Of course, this made the task of being even better than he was even harder, but she wasn't about to think about that right now. First things first: catching those rompos. After that, maybe they would get to do something way cooler. Like hunt something dangerous. Nothing like a good old life or death situation to get the blood running, and Cheyenne desperately wanted to be in that kind of situation.
"What are we waiting on? Let's go get 'em," she said, pointing north. Which may or may not be where the rompos were. That wasn't the point, the point was they needed to get moving before she went crazy with over excitement.
