Simone was never an expert at potion making, but she was willing to test herself on this otherwise boring day back home. The adventurous girl was always looking for something exciting as she often found herself very bored when she came home after returning from one of her adventures. It felt like Simone had done nothing since she had returned from her trip to England and she wanted to do something besides paint in her room all day. Although she never brewed this potion outside of a classroom, she thought drinking the Volubilis Potion might be a funny prank to play on her sister.
Making sure she had the required ingredients, Simone shoved them all in her old school cauldron and headed to the backyard of her parents’ Viennemont home to get to work. It was a beautiful breezy summer day without a cloud in the sky and the girl wanted to take full advantage of it. Not being completely irresponsible, Simone had her old textbook out so she could follow the instructions for the potion. She was merely average at potion brewing and could only remember the simplest recipes off the top of her head. Anything that could change her hair colour, Simone knew quite well, but anything with a slightly useful effect, Simone never had to use outside of classroom and therefore, never properly learned.
Simone read the instructions all the way through before starting and heated up the ingredients until they went from red to green. So far she was doing well. Then she added the honeywater, heated the potion again, and added the mint springs. This was turning out to be easy enough Simone thought. As long she didn’t forget to heat the potion she was doing quite well. Now she was excited to see her little sister’s reaction when Simone came in with a different voice. Most likely, Simone was going to try and scare her. She was a little frustrated with Mila for continuously barging into her room or banging on the door when Simone had locked it. Maybe she would save the drinking for the next time her sister tried to barge in. Before Simone had to heat cauldron for the final time, Simone spotted a familiar head of blonde hair nearby.
“Maddie!” Simone yelled happy to see a person with less than a decade of age difference to herself. Checking her potion before heading over, Simone made sure the cauldron was still heating and completely unaware that she had knocked some extra ingredients in the cauldrons before heading over.
BOOM.
Simone looked back in horror as her work for the afternoon had exploded and splattered all over the backyard, even hitting some the walls and windows of her parents’ house. Her cauldron was now in pieces on the grass and a foul smelling smoke was coming from the center of the explosion.
