[Three Broomsticks] Hunting some Butterbeer [Eros, Terry]
« on: December 06, 2016, 03:19:13 PM »
Eros entered the pub with a cold look upon his face. He was currently wearing a very stylish clothes, coming here right after his photoshoot. His outfit was visibly a non-wizard one. Blue jeans with torn knees that perfectly hugged his legs and matched in color with his shoes. Also a white shirt - too unbuttoned - and opened leather jacket with a white fur within. His skin was even smoother than normally from wearing a little bit of make-up and his eyes were decorated by thin eyeliners which made them look deeper and more prominent.
His unusual outfit made some of the wizards inside the room turn in his direction and stare at him with various expressions. Eros on the other hand, completely ignored everyone but the bartender who was already filling up a bottle with Butterbeer for him. He was one of their frequent visitors, living not so far away from here, so the man didn't even have to ask. Eros just took his order and paid for it, searching for an empty spot. That wasn't so easy - considering the fact that today was quite full. He concluded it was probably because of the Hogwarts students visiting the village today - whatever, he didn't care. He was happy with the small table in the corner and just two chairs where he at least had enough peace, if not silence.
He took a few gulps from his beer, then pulled out some letters from his bag which he always carried with him. Letters from the Order and some blank ones too. He quietly read over them and then started writing responses. Those letters were from foreign members of their secret society, his job was to translate them and prepare a reply. After approval he then could send them back. Today he got to practice his German and Italian grammar.
It didn't take him that long - maybe twenty minutes to finish them all, now he was just sitting and watching people around with a dull yet dark expression.

Terry was beginning to regret venturing into Hogsmeade smack dab in the middle of the first weekend back at school. It seemed that after five solid months trapped in the school, and then having a month completely off of it, several of the students had had the same idea as him and had gone to the little village for their various purposes. He only knew how stupid he really was, however, after he was done ordering a butterbeer at the Three Broomsticks.

Somehow, he had managed to space out so deeply that he had not even noticed just how crowded the place was. Sure, he'd known that it would be busy like it always was, but Terry had missed the fact that the pub was practically bursting with people. This was why it was important to pay attention to things, then you didn't end up with a full mug and nowhere to sit in a very hot and stuffy inn. Well, that wasn't entirely true. There did happen to be one seat open, in the very back corner of the room, but the person in the seat next to it made the Gryffindor a little hesitant. Not because he was big or scary or anything, no, but it did have something to do with the man's appearance.

His clothes were the very opposite of wizarding attire (not that Terry judged for that, considering he, himself wore muggle clothes quite often) and were almost too stylish, what with the torn jeans and weird jacket. And then there was the fact that he was wearing make-up. Though this was really only a minor thing, it reminded him of some his uncle's joking 'words of wisdom' - never trust a man that's wearing eyeliner.

Though he was still apprehensive of the man, his options were either to remain standing awkwardly in the middle of the room or to go sit by Guyliner. Guyliner it was. As he neared the table, he realized that the other man looked a bit grouchy and he suddenly wished he'd stuck to standing awkwardly. However, since he'd already made it this far, it was at least worth it to make an attempt. "Er, hi, uh, is anyone sitting there?" He asked, gesturing to the open spot "I don't mean to bother you or anything, it's just . . . very crowded today."

He caught himself sighing deeply, he couldn't find anything interesting to look at. He grabbed his bottle and took another gulp of his Butterbeer, while his hand searched inside his bag. It wasn't hard to find it. He took out black folder with a golden inscription which said 'British Ministry of Magic: Regulation and control of Magical Creatures.' and right under it was in a lot smaller font written 'Eros Maddox'. It wasn't anything official, just his notebook where he wrote each of his successful and even unsuccessful hunts. Not that he had any that gone wrong. He would never let the creature win.

Also, he obviously didn't write inside anything about the things he had done for the Order, he had another place for that. And it was almost the same length as this list was, only more monotone in variety of magical creatures. The biggest part were obviously werewolves. He could probably easily become a Hunter if they ever fired him from the Ministry. Which reminded him, he had another fresh hunt to do soon, he had gotten these information by a letter from one of the Order members. The Death Eaters that were still free usually tried to hide but with the wolfy guys it was quite different. If they were really Dark Lord's huge supporter they often tried to continue in the some things he presented to them. Like getting rid of dirty Muggleborns. Which was a bit funny considering he was one of the so-called Mudbloods too and most of them in the end still died under his hands. This brought some kind of satisfaction to him.

It was this moment that an unknown and seemingly young voice startled him, cut off his thoughts and made him come back to reality. He blinked, putting the folder down on the table and then looked up. His eyes stabbed the unknown ones with a piercing and a bit fierce look, showing off their unique color in the process. Blue and amber, positioned right on a young boy who was very obviously one of the Hogwarts students. Considering the colors he wore, he belonged to Gryffindor. He scanned him a bit more. The boy was quite tall, slender with grey-looking eyes and short brown hair - Eros almost smirked upon seeing him. He was kidna cute to say the truth. Though he took his time to answer him - in the end maybe it was better to have the Pretty Gryff sitting with him rather than risk anyone unpleasant to want to sit there. At least he will have something nice to look at. He opened his mouth and let out his husky and wheezy voice. "The seat is free, sit down if you want."

This was why he didn't come to the Three Broomsticks very often, unless he was with friends. The inn was nearly always busy (though usually not quite so) and Terry had always found it awkward to basically intrude on someone else's space and conversation, especially when there wasn't a friend to lessen the unease. Of course at school it was different, there the only people you could intrude on were other kids, and that wasn't even remotely intimidating.

But this was not school and he was not intruding on other kids. No, this was a real, live, adult. Adults were practically a whole different breed of people, and one never knew how they would react to any given situation. Some were grouchy, some were kind, some were in the middle and sometimes it was hard to tell. This was definitely one of those times. It really shouldn't have been as scary as he was making it out to be, after all, the guy didn't look to be that much older than him, but for some reason he was extra nervous.

The look the guy gave him only increased his initial misgivings about the whole situation, but in the end he was told that he could sit. "Thanks." He said simply. Collapsing into the chair (though discreetly scooting the chair a bit as he was still a bit apprehensive of the stranger), he took a sip of his butterbeer before looking around a bit. Briefly, he glanced over the black folder, trying not to snoop, yet taking in the inscription on the front. Ah, a ministry worker, though that really didn't explain the outfit. He didn't know what made him say it, since his plan was honestly just to have his drink and leave, but for some reason he decided to attempt a conversation. "So you work for the ministry then?" He asked, gesturing to the folder, "Is it pretty decent? What do you do there?" Of course he forgot all about introductions, he'd already read the stranger's name on his folder, and it had completely slipped his mind that the guy didn't know his.

He watched the boy as he collapsed into the chair and even noticed him scooting a bit away from him. Eros frowned down on his folder. Huh? Did he really come off so cold and scary? It wasn't like he hated talking to others, he just didn't like it when they tried to be something more than a talking buddy. Or when they pried into his intimate life which they usually tried to. Claiming - that it's because they care. Hahaha. A big fat lie. That's what this have always been.

Just an empty words - he bet no one have ever noticed just how much people use them, how much they throw them around. It's ridiculous, there's no way anyone would be able to care for so many people. And love? For him something even more absurd. Why was he even wasting his time with this? There's no point in thinking about useless things.

He secured his gaze back on the student, who was looking around, and studied his face more. The air around him felt a bit awkward, like he was considering bolting up and running away. However, what shocked him even more was the fact he didn't want it to happen. The kid was nothing extraordinary in look as well as in his behavior yet he found himself wanting to break the silence with something. Was it because he was so cute? Or looked so innocent and clumsy to him? He didn't know and honestly maybe even didn't want to. Only, what to do? He bit his lip, thinking about something to say. How do you talk to a teenage brat who already feels endangered by him? How to talk to teenage boy at all?

Thank god he was saved by the Pretty Gryff who actually decided to speak up in the end. Eros was much better at answering and teasing than asking others questions. He released his lip to respond. "Yeah, I do and to say decent - well, I guess it is." He shrugged, then leaned in a bit. He didn't even realize it but his face was now a lot more relaxed, the dark look from his eyes was gone - now they were just a bit lifeless. On the other hand his face was full of interest and playfulness. His lips stretched into a small smirk. "It's a dynamic job, I never know what could happen which I really like." He pauses to take a sip of his Butterbeer. "I'm a Beast Hunter. My name's Eros, kiddo." He emphasized the last word, pointing out the fact he doesn't know his. Not yet at least.

The Gryffindor listened politely as the man answered his questions, though he nearly choked on his butterbeer when it was revealed that he was a beast hunter. It both surprised him and didn't, because while he'd never met someone with a job even similar to the man's, he felt that it explained the look in his eyes. However, the man seemed more relaxed now, which the sixth year thought was probably a good thing.

Terry flinched at the word 'kiddo.' He wasn't that young! Okay, probably compared to the man, nearly seventeen years was a bit young, and his boyish face wasn't doing him any favors in looking older. "Oh yeah, sorry about that, my name is Terry, nice to meet you . . . " Terry paused. He wasn't quite sure what to call the man. While he'd introduced himself as 'Eros,' Terry had read that his surname was 'Maddox' and this was what was tripping him up. The Gryffindor had been trained to be polite, which generally meant calling adults 'Mr.' or  'Ms.' but the beast hunter seemed to prefer first names. In the end, the sixth year just decided to avoid the issue altogether and pretend as though he hadn't left a strange pause at the end of his sentence.

He discovered that he didn't feel so awkward when he was talking, so Terry started putting together a list of things to say and questions to ask. Of course, his mind immediately jumped to the contents of a book called 'cool conversation starters' that he'd been given when he was little and he nearly blurted out something about the colors of toothbrushes but managed to stop himself just in time. Whew, that probably would have made things even more awkward, not to mention it would probably evoke a strange look from Mr. Beast hunter (which was what Terry had decided to call him, at least in his head).

"So what sorts of things do you hunt? And what do you use to hunt them?" He asked, finally deciding on something relatively normal, though his second question was probably a bit stupid, since it seemed unlikely that he'd use anything but a wand. Truth be told, he was a bit fascinated by it, though he was unsure if he'd ever be able to do it himself. In fact, the very idea of killing something shot a shiver down his spine, though that didn't stop him from being curious.

Terry. He didn't heard that name before but it sounded nice. Had a nice melody to it, he though and drowned his lips into Butterbeer. He took one big gulp, tongue darting out to lick the white foam that gave him a nice white mustache. Eros didn't answer right away, he thought for a moment about what to say and how much. It wasn't anything that private and a student shouldn't be any danger to him - though he probably needed to look out for other people in the pub. There's no way he could know who was watching him right now. For all he knew, there could be sitting a Death Eater, waiting for him to exit this place and then try to erase him from Earth once and for all. Though many of them were already in Azkaban, he knew that quite a number of them was still freely running around and making troubles. The smarter ones just tried to disappear.

Eros took another gulp, his bottle already half way empty and spoke up. "I dealt with many types of creatures, at the start it were smaller or less dangerous ones but during the Voldemort´s rise -" he paused, realizing that he once again used the Dark Lord's name. Maybe he took it from Harry Potter during his time at DA? He wasn't sure - the guy was a danger to him but he was never that real to him, so scary as David. Maybe that´s why he didn't have any problems of saying his name out loud? He often forgot that others did though.

"Anyway," he continued, "It didn't take me that long to face some more problematic ones. I had faced griffin once too, have to say they're a beautiful creatures." He paused here once again and on his face appeared for a moment soft look. Small smile, gentle, and a bright spark in his eyes that made them seem alive for a second. He was remembering how the creature looked like. Intelligent eyes, glossy feathers in brown color, some white ones here and there. It was really an amazing memory, one of the few happy ones he had.

In that moment He took third gulp of his Butterbeer. "However, what I've faced the most is something terrifying and exciting at the same time. Also dangerous. Insanely." He paused to make it seem more dramatic, "I have many experiences with Werewolves, those are which I've hunted down the most. At least those who were running around and making problems, being dangerous to others. As for how I hunt, I definitely need a wand but these creatures are pretty imunne and impulsive. So I use quite usually -" he hesitated a bit, what if the boy will think of him as some heartless and disgusting guy?

Wait, why does he even care? It doesn't matter, it´s not like it means anything to him anyway. "I use also weapons. Sharp blades because it comes in handy. It´s a saving grace, when jaws full of sharp teeth snap right next to your ear. " That's where he stopped, realizing he really talked more than is usually normal for him. "Hmm, and what about you? Have any idea about what to do? By the way which year are you in? I went to Hogwarts too you know." He smirked. "Former Slytherin Beater is sitting right in front of you."

It was better to ask questions than to answer them, he also had to acknowledge that he was kidna interested in this conversation. The boy was interesting despite the fact he was absolutely ordinary at the same time. This confused Eros a little.

So he took another gulp of his Butterbeer to shut himself up for a moment and to look away from that young face. He was feeling weird.
