Korrine pulled the curtains to her large bay windows to let in the cool light of a cloudy late November afternoon into the parlor. She examined her garden and the last fall leaves held to bare branches waited for the coming winter snow, before turning before glanced around the room one last time. Her parlor had the sofa and number of chair organized in a crescent circle around a hearth lit with a small but warm fire.
With the help of her house elf Oli, Korrine set her dining table beyond the pallor with an assortment of seasonal vegetarian food including: homemade cucumber and egg salad finger sandwiches, sliced apples, pear crisp, pumpkin pasties, chocolate dipped oranges and her favorite French biscuits. Small china plates with the Ollviander family crest as well as silver goblets and cups awaited arrivals. Although coffee and cucumber water was available at the table, individual mini tea pots will be formally brought out by her house elf, with a tea requested by each guest.
Just whom would be attending this tea party and how would they all get along, Korrine was unsure. The broad objections of each side of the Snuggle issue has started to divide the wizard community. It was unlikely that issues and fears could grow to the scale of the second wizarding war, but Korrine can’t denied the similar destruction to Diagon Alley the issue started to caused.
Before Korrine attended the Nigeria Gala, she had no idea the scale of the matter. Korrine simply thought it would be a fun event and looked forward to helping the zoo fund positive changes. Right away, she noticed the tension between the attendee’s regular socialites that frequent these functions and the few radical protesters that were able to get in. She chose to leave early before anything calamitous happened. Although She would have assigned herself to the former group, she did have a heart. Resent events of the past 5 years have resolved wish not want to see any magical beast nor animal hurt or kept behind bars. No good-hearted Wizard, Muggle, Beast or even none magical animal deserves to be imprisoned. She had seen what it done to Husband.
Her sympathy for the "Snuggles Initiative” protesters faded, when after a few days in Nigeria and visiting Wizarding families in Africa she returning home to find Diagon Alley in shambles. Dragon Alley had not been in such a horrible state since her family returned from hiding after the Second Wizarding War.
Since then, she vowed to get involved. She will have to help establish a more clearer method for the protesters to achieve their goal, one which does not promote devastation and destruction. Yet to gain the “protesters” respect she realized she will have to uphold their ideals. So, she packed away all her wonderful furs and even her pearls. She posted a sign in the window at Ollivanders stating: “As of this date, all dragon heart strings cores wands made in this shop will be taken from dragons who died of natural causes,” in hoped that other shops would make similar change. Lastly, she contacted a few Gala attendees that expressed true consideration of animals, a number of the wizarding families she knew would help make positive changes in the Ministry and of course her Witches Institute members.
Invitations to a Tea Party were sent out with a single adjective; seek peaceful solution to the rights and welfare of beasts, went out to people who responded. She set her own residence as the location of the event in hopes that the participants would walk past the current graffiti on the store front of Diagon Alley before or after they arrive. With the grandfather clock in the entry chiming 3pm, Korrine had just enough time to ran over to the front mirror to check her hair was in place, before the first guest arrived.
With each guest arrival, either by floo or front door, Korrine welcomed them with a warm hug. Pleasantries and inquiry into health of family was always exchanged before she invited them to help themselves to the any food they wanted. Once there was a good group, Korrine asked them to choose a seat, so that tea could be served. The moment that the participant sat down into a chair, OLi magic their personal tea cup to the wizard or witch, allowing them to dress the tea with lemon, milk or sugar.
It was not until each precipitant had their tea order that Korrine began. “I am sure that you all have heard of the "Snuggles Initiative” movement from the Daily Prophet and maybe some of you has seen or even participated in the protests.”
Korrine waited a second for replies and confirmations before continuing, “Like many of wizardkind, I do not want to see any creature imprisoned or tortured, but I do NOT see how vandalism and destruction could create positive change in our community. I would like to participate in a group that will create and organize positive actives that protesters can participate in. Activities which will change public option, and so create social change to meet both the needs of the wizarding community while keeping in mind the rights and welfare of beasts in the world.”
Korrine waited a moment for her thought to sink in and for anyone response. Then she asked THE question, “Dose anyone have any ideas, how we might do this?”
