Genevieve did not make it a habit of participating in events outside of her sphere of influence, raised in a proper household where there was no shortage of events to attend with people worthy of sharing the same space as she did, there was little reason to. However, after her return home from an extended trip, she had been encouraged to make a public appearance to lay rest to any rumors that may have been stirred up in her absence. In all honesty, the young witch was happy to help wherever animals were involved, especially if it meant she would have the chance to interact with them. It was one of the many things she missed from her research expedition; she had always found animals to be much more relatable than people. But anyone who knew Genevieve Grosvenor knew that it was not that she could not relate to others, she simply rarely made the effort to connect.

The job was simple enough; the Grosvenor family was known for a series of charitable acts many in direct relation to her passion for magizoology. It was the idea that she would be rubbing elbows with some of the people her family would consider undesirable that did not sit well with her. At Hogwarts, it could not be avoided, and while she had sincerely wished that the ministry took the matter of the preservation of pureblood culture seriously, it was a sentiment that was better kept secret lest people misinterpret her intentions. Though deep down she knew that no matter how unacceptable her view was in society, she was right. However, since her graduation, the freedom to choose the people she shared space with was one that she took great pride in and had greatly affected her social life, one that was nonexistent outside of the few pureblood witches and wizards she felt somewhat close to.

She entered the building, a nondescript grey building with a guard at the door, one she assumed was posted to keep nosy muggles away, with her maid close behind her. From what she had been told, it was a community center of sorts that held a variety of events, Genevieve did not make it a habit of bring a babysitter along but thought it might be best, she had plenty of shopping to do beforehand and it was ridiculous to think that she would be totting all those bags around like a commoner. She approached the information counter with a polite smile that quickly turned sour when the woman handed her some boxes, seemingly filled with medical supplies, and ordered her to store them in the basement.

“Effie,” she turns to her and hands her the box, “Do as the kind lady says,” she said sarcastically, her expression unimpressed with the woman, “Now it seems that you are confused as to who I am, I did not come to do menial labor, I would have sent my servants should that be all the volunteering required around…here,” she said, wrinkling her nose as she took in her surroundings, “If you could kindly inform me where my help is required, I will be on my way,” she added. The woman stared at her for a woman, taken aback by her behavior but much too busy to entertain an argument, she pointed to a corner of the room, rolling her eyes and tending to something else. Genevieve bit her tongue, she had several choice words for her but one glare from Effie encouraged her to move on. Her maid and the closest thing to a best friend the young Grosvenor girl had, Effie accompanied her for the sake of damage control. She was well aware of Genevieve’s slips in judgment and was not beyond correcting them in her own way, even if it meant she would have to deal with her outburst of anger when they were home later.

Genevieve moved over to the section in the corner, the expression on her face changing almost immediately when she caught sight of a puppy, she leaned down to pet the small dog on the head, rubbing behind its ears and laughing at his wagging tail, “Now look at you, what’s an adorable thing like you doing up for adoption?” she wondered out loud. It was a joint effort in finding a local shelter’s animals forever homes and while the pets were mostly run of the mill dogs and cats, there were a few magical creatures here and there, ones that would be easy for the general public to take care of. In an effort to make them more appealing to the public, volunteers had been requested to groom, play with, and most importantly give routine checks to the animals in question. People in the community had been been encouraged to bring along their loved animals for a free check, many had a habit of wanting to own a pet but very few actually took the opportunity to take care of them. Taken with the small dog, she picked it up, and suddenly turned around, bumping straight into a man behind her, and completely taken by surprise.

“I am so sorry,” she said apologetically, holding the puppy closer to her chest, “Are you in charge around here? I’d like to get straight to work and no one seems to be able to tell me what to do,” she complained, smiling once her eyes landed on the puppy again.
