“I look pretty good in neon yellow,” she teased, “but if you’ve got any special requests, I can see what I can do,” she added with a grin. Magnolia wasn’t about to dress for Isaac, though in reality, it was what she had been doing at every meeting this entire winter break, so maybe she would do it depending on her mood. At this rate, her mood was going to be pretty good for the rest of the term regardless of what happened between now and summer.

If she didn’t think about it too seriously too far in advance, if she did, then all that weird doubt started to creep in again. Too early for that, she reminded herself, and only smiled wider when he repeated the time to her as if to prove that he was actually listening to what she was saying.

Knowing the Gryffindor, she’d probably be running late and throw the entire plan off course a little but at least that wouldn’t surprise anyone. Maybe she’d do something crazy and wake up an hour earlier to look absolutely perfect. The first day of the year wasn’t even over and the weekend couldn’t come fast enough.

When Isaac pulled her hand back, he pulled her right out of her thoughts and she could not help but to melt against his lips as he kissed her. So, in turn, she brought her hands up to cup his face and deepened the kiss, but only a little they were just outside of her house after all. Instead, she led him into one of the darker corners of the fence that divided two properties, falling just out of sight from the second-floor bedroom should anyone in her house care to look. But inexperienced and feeling a little embarrassed by her sudden boldness, she pulled away, her hand traveling along his arm to interlock their fingers together. And just before she said something stupid like I love you the way they did in the movies, her brain (thankfully!) intervened.

“I better go.”

"Well, when you put it that way," The teenager teased her back, knowing full well he wasn't going to ask her to wear anything specific on his account but that he also wouldn't mind if she kept wearing his hoodie around. Laughing easily, the exhaustion making it feel addictive, the wizard smiled at her. She would probably look good in just about anything. He already knew this.

Magnolia had pulled him toward the fence line, and Isaac hadn't stopped it. It was darker over here, despite the tiny bits of sunlight peeking out from behind the skyline and the grey clouds that plagued Gravesend, and Isaac was thankful for the privacy. He felt her push against him, deepening the kiss, and it had his heart racing. Magnolia pulled away, and he frowned at her, "Really?" He asked, wishing it wasn't true but knowing it was. He'd spend half the morning making out with her up against the fence if she let him. They fought a lot less when they weren't talking, he'd already decided, but that was a pipe dream too. It wasn't rational, and sooner or later, their exhausted legs would betray them.

"Eleven on Saturday," He repeated one more time before stepping to the side to let her move away from him. "See you then," He let go of her hand and took a step back. It had been such a weird night. Going from fighting to friends, to fighting, to whatever this was. It felt like they were on the strangest carnival ride, and he was tired and feeling strangely close to her, and his thoughts felt like silk slipping through his mind faster than he could focus on them. Isaac needed sleep, he needed to let her go home, but he didn't want to.

"Don't be late," He threatened with a smile, his tired words slurring together as he pulled the hood of his hoodie up further onto his head. The cold had crept into his bones; it felt like that overtired, tingling sensation all over his body. And with that, the teenager turned back toward the docks and hoped he had enough left on his transport card to swipe once more to get across the Thames.

Magnolia had half-expected a color, a specific item of clothing, something to clue her into the sort of thing that he might want to see her in but as she should have known, he gave her nothing more than the beginning of a vague statement that seemed to allude to the idea that he had an answer he was simply unwilling to share with her. And that was fine, really, except she hated being kept in the dark. But she’d figure something out, she’d been winging it this far and had gotten much further in life because of it.

It was so strange thinking how yesterday morning she had been determined to completely forget about him after he had rejected her invitation and somehow here, they were again, in each other’s orbits as if it were the most natural thing in the world. If this wasn’t the universe giving them a blatantly obvious sign, then she didn’t know what was. She’d have to consult with her horoscope again later, she didn’t remember it being this good.

The way he said Really? almost made her wish she was bold enough to defy her parents and go wherever he wanted them to go. Then again, this seemed like the right place to part, just when her control was starting to slip again and he was starting to regain his footing, she wanted to leave with him thinking about her knowing that she’d be thinking about him all morning until she fell asleep.

“I won’t be late,” she promised, before smiling, “well maybe a little late, it’s me, after all,” she clarified, waving goodbye in his direction, a small gesture as they parted, and he went on his way back to the docks. She waited a moment or two before turning back to her house once again, the realization that she could very well get in a lot of trouble as soon as she walked through the door bringing her back to reality again as she walked around the yard to the back door, hoping that no one had made it to the kitchen so early in the morning.
