Mad dashing across the lawns Benny felt like his feet were carrying him faster than his legs should have been able to move. Everything in his shirt jostled back and forth as his arms instinctively tried to sway with the movement. He heard JR stop behind him, call for help, and Benny stopped on a dime, the ice cream nearly falling out. The twelve-year-old did the equivalent of a footrace drift as he slid on the dewy grass and turned to look at JR. "One sec!" He called back, walking quickly to join JR and try to help him pick up what had fallen. His shirt was full up, so much so that bending over seemed like more trouble than it was worth. He had the ice cream, so no matter what had dropped out of JR's shirt they would still be okay.
"Shit, shit, shit," the preteen swore under his breath, the curse words falling easier the more time he spent around the older students at camp. It was partly because he wanted to be more grown-up, partly because it was fun, partly because he was legitimately scared right now. "Run!" He whisper shouted at JR before he took off running, still slipping and sliding on the grass, and darted for their cabin. The flashlight was closing in, turning the corner, and his heart was in his throat. Slinking against the wall of the cabin next to theirs Benny tried to hide in the shadows until JR caught up and they made for the door. Someone would have to open it, and all of their hands were full right now, but he wasn't thinking about that yet.
