Today was the day! I’m finally going to do it! Jeva thought to herself, as she cheerfully skipped down the lawn towards the forbidden forest. She’d planned her entire first year for this day: the day she was finally going to see a real live unicorn in person! Or that was the plan anyways. The Hufflepuff wasn’t quite sure she would actually be able to find a unicorn, but she was sure going to try, and the best part was that she wasn’t even going to do it by herself.

Though she had talked to everyone and anyone who would listen to her about magical creatures and her desire to see them in real life, rather than just on paper, she’d never really found someone interested enough in the beasts to break the rules and go looking for them. Except for Trudy that is. The Ravenclaw liked animals probably as much as Jeva did, and honestly the Hufflepuff didn’t know why they’d waited practically an entire year and a half before attempting to find anything cool and exciting. She supposed it didn’t really matter though, since they were going to brave the forest now.

As she neared the edge of the forest, Jeva ran through her list of equipment she had brought with her in a knapsack slung over her shoulder. Some parchment, a quill, and ink to draw the unicorn with when she found it? Check. A handful of grass and some flowers, aka unicorn bait? Check. Candy, in case she got hungry and wanted a snack? Double check. Yep, she was all set, all she had to do now was wait for Trudy. She figured that she wouldn’t have to wait for long, so she decided just to do some somersaults in the grass until her friend arrived.

Trudy was looking forward to meeting her friend Jeva and even more so to the adventure they had planned. Entering the forbidden forest was something that could get them into trouble but wasn’t it worth the trouble if they could see some magical creatures such as unicorns? The girl was pretty excited as she walked down to their meeting point, bouncing with every step she made and grinning all the time.

Unlike her friend Trudy didn’t bring a bag, she had put everything she felt she needed into the big pockets of her winter coat - her wand, a piece of parchment and a pencil, a few biscuits that were already crumbling and a whistle. When she had gone exploring with Wendy at the summer camp, Wendy had brought a whistle and Trudy thought that it was a good idea to have one now, too.

As she approached Jeva, Trudy giggled. Her friend was apparently passing the time doing somersaults. “Jeva!” she exclaimed and ran to cover the distance between them quickly. “I’m so excited!” she said, as she grinned at her friend, her cheeks reddening slightly. She glanced towards the edge of the forest. While the grounds were sunlit now, the forest seemed to be pretty dark. Trudy wondered if they’d need to light their wands when they’d step in there.

“Are you ready?” she asked and glanced around to check if they were really alone out here now.
