Edith tipped her head back, getting the last few drops of beer from her bottle. “Be right back,” she said to no one in particular--Fergie had gone off to talk to someone else and Edith had reached her limit of talking to new people for one night, which severely limited Edith’s options for conversations. But she wasn’t upset about it; there was plenty to drink and she’d already had three slices of the carrot cake Honey had brought. (Fergie had been avoiding his sister--and his sister’s guest--but that didn’t mean she had to avoid the cake.)

She stood in front of the bottles laid out on the kitchen counter, wondering if it was time to make the swap to liquor. it took her a second to realize how stupid a question that was-- of course it was time. Edith made herself a gin and tonic (with more gin than tonic), took a large swallow, then topped it with a little more gin. She moved to rejoin the party-- saw the cake and reconsidered. She cut herself another slice, leaning back against the counter to eat in the relative silence of the kitchen.

But it could only last for so long. Edith--mouth full of cake--looked up at the woman entering the kitchen; she was staring at her, and it took Edith far too long to realize it was because she was blocking the alcohol. “Sorry,” she said--around the cake--as she scooted over along the counter. She had another bite, then swapped her plate for her glass and had another drink. “Sorry,” she said again, moving a little farther down so she would stop blocking the ice, too.

Ros' was rather enjoying Fergie's birthday bash. Excellent people coming together to celebrate someone in her top five of favorite people. It was all a blur of loud, drinks, and food which was an environment the brunette witch tended to thrive on quite a bit. There was a buoying effect when you added all those things together which made her a laughing mess of positive feeling. She'd lost track at this point how much alcohol she'd consumed though she did rather well at holding her liquor anyway and so the party had turned into a flurry of faces as she patted people she knew on the shoulder. She admirably resisted glomming Fergie too badly, keeping her more tactile instincts to herself, in light of the whole 'serious relationship' thing.

She wasn't sure how much Edith would tolerate another woman being so chummy with her boyfriend (despite the fact that it was Fergie and therefore not many people would be able to match his level of general honesty and goodness added to the fact that they'd know each-other for what seemed to her all their lives at this point) and so had resolved to keep a certain level of distance that was difficult for her to maintain. It felt strange, too, in a way because she wasn't used to ... sharing, actually. Which was absurd, really, considering Fergie wasn't a toy but a really wonderful ... wizard person.

Merlin maybe she had indulged a bit too much in the booze. She was getting all soppy. Time for some food, maybe. Definitely another drink. Only as she stumbled through the kitchen doorway, flushed, bright eyed, and grinning she caught sight of Edith with a mouthful of cake. There was a moment of silence as she blinked hazy teal eyes a few times to clear the cobwebs before the other woman spoke. She ended up laughing a second later as her brain caught up. "S'fine." she managed, grin still fixed firmly in place, as she sidled up to the drinks table. She grabbed some ice and poured herself some whiskey (she'd surpassed the need for any sort of mixer) before she turned and leaned on the wall. She took a sip, before her gaze trailed back over to Edith. She wasn't sure how to approach the girl, actually, and she was sort of hesitant because she wanted to make a good impression.

She wasn't sure what she'd do if Edith ended up feeling a certain way and baring her from spending time with her best friend. (A ludicrous thought to be sure, considering that she doubted Fergie would be dating someone that would be that cruel but well she didn't have much experience with Fergie's ... women. It wasn't a long list and he'd never been this serious before she didn't think...) Point was it made her attempts at friendship rather clumsy because she wasn't sure what to talk about or say, really. It didn't come naturally to censor herself (she usually did not) but she felt like she wanted Fergie's girlfriend to like her and so it made things rather complicated in her mind. "It's been a lovely party." she blurt out, feeling herself flush a bit, at her need to fill the silence. Never-mind that the girl was eating or anything. Merlin. "Fergie looks happy." she added, because that seemed a more important observation to make.
