We've been up, we've been down, we got over it
Everywhere we go, we're the kings and queens,
and we run this city

July 2004

"No, your cut off, Jacob," Madelyn said to the middle-aged wizard from Leeds trying to help himself to a third slice of cheesecake from the cooler, swiping at his grubby hands with the towel she'd started wiping the counters down with. It was late now and there were still a few stragglers finishing up (but not fast enough) and Madelyn lazily ran over the list of things she still had to do before she could go home and fall into her bed. She wiped down the counter and pretended not to see the sticky substance staining one of the stools that lined the front. She did her job, but only just barely, and that was just enough for her. It wasn't as if she was angling for a promotion or anything. Not that there was much of a ladder to climb at the Delicatessen.

Focussed on the counter (so she could ignore the rest) Madelyn heard the door open before she saw who was headed inside. "Ay, we're closing," She said, one more swipe with the damp towel, and her eyes rose. Fflur was probably one of the last people she'd expected to show up at the diner, though she wasn't disappointed to see her. They had worked together last summer, and Madelyn wondered if the professor would be back again this season.

"Are you coming back?" She asked, not really knowing if Fflur had left because she had to go back to Hogwarts or because the job wasn't a good fit. Madelyn probably should have wound her neck back in, but being a little bit nosy was in her nature.
