I've unarchived Gaston and would like him to return to teaching at Beauxbatons. In his original sheet he coveted the magical creatures position but applied for hypnosis as that was the one available. I'd like to have him switch subjects if possible and this will be accounted for in his sheet (and is explained in the RP sample, which if you like can be used as an end of year final class for students to post in in order to age up). Anyway, without further ado...
He had been teaching for four years, but today felt like the first day all over again. Students who had become used to seeing Professeur Malinat teaching hypnosis in a sparsely decorated classroom and only allowing them to attempt the practical elements when he was certain they had mastered the theory would now have to get used to something quite different. The previous Soins aux Créatures Magiques teacher had had to leave - through no fault of her own - before the end of the year and the only suitable substitute was a hypnosis expert.
Gaston had seized his chance to teach the subject he had coveted since his graduation more than three decades earlier. Another professor might have simply requested a transfer, but that wasn't his style. Instead, he had suggested how much better it would be for students to have specialists in all their subjects, couching the request to make it sound as if he was doing the rest of the school a favour. Now, just days later he was now out in the school grounds waiting for the students to arrive for another first lesson.
This close to the end of the year there was little new he could teach the students, so instead had gathered together a selection of smaller and safer creatures which were now securely and comfortably housed in various pens and cages in the shade of the trees. Here, a knarl snuffled around in the undergrowth and there a crup he'd borrowed from a witch in the village rolled on the grass. A murtlap swam in circles in a large tank of seawater and one of the school Granians browsed leaves from the tree nearest to where it was tethered. In all, more than a dozen beasts - all interesting in their own way but unlikely to prove a danger to an unwary student - awaited the beginning of the lesson.
As the sound of voices filtered across the grounds Gaston raised his wand and wrote in the air in shimmering crimson letters
Welcome to Soins aux Créatures Magiques.
As many of you already know, I am Professeur G Malinat and I will be teaching this subject for the forseeable future. Today will be a revision lesson. Please take a copy of today's quiz and answer as many of the questions as you can.
Below the instructions was a basket containing enough scrolls of parchment for all the students. Each scroll held the quiz containing almost fifty questions: some about specific creatures, others multiple choice and some a mix of the two. At the end was space for a short essay describing the care and habits of a creature of the student's choice. Gaston had charmed the parchment so when it was unrolled it would become sturdy enough to write on, rather as if the student was leaning on a clipboard.
The first students were close enough now that they recognised him and began whispering among themselves. “Good afternoon...yes, I will be teaching this class...not that it is any of your concern but obviously I am qualified and if you ask again I shall take house points...I heard that, Mlle Chastain, please see me afterwards...in the basket, directly below the instructions...†his tone was commanding, faintly bored, but belied his feelings. Gaston was thrilled to have the opportunity to teach this subject. He waited until the students had gathered and quietened down.
“Do you all have your scrolls? Very well, please unroll them and begin. You may work in pairs or groups if you wish, though I will take this into account when marking...please ask if you have questions or need any assistance. Oh, and don't put your fingers in the kappa tank. If you need to ask why you should not be taking this class." he paused and gazed sternly around the assembled students so they would realise that his demeanour had not changed with his subject. "You may begin.â€
