EFBs and Family Connections

Hi folks,

As we've recently noticed a lot of development of family connections and the fact that many people seem intrigued by multiple nationalities / ethnicities we felt the need to put up a little reminder for you.

The EFB System

Family connections
The EFB system has been developed to give you all a chance to find suitable family connections for your character. You can easily check in the EFB Submissions board to see if there are families from the same area as yours, contact the driver in question, and connect to their family.

Business connections
There's also the Employment Directory which allows you to check if there already are families with the same line of work that you want to have for your character's family. In case that there are already families listed with the same line of work it makes sense to contact the member and ask if a (business) connection can be worked out. Remember that this connection can easily be only about business. In some cases it might also be advisable to revise your business plan if there are already played characters with the same profession, or families that run the same kind of business respectively.

Multiple Nationalities / Ethnicities
As a general note, we do not encourage multiple ethnicities unless it makes sense for the involved characters and adds something to your own character's personality. In most cases, however, it is not needed and should therefore better be avoided, particularly if you already have foreign connections for your character. There are so many characters available in each area (Hogwarts, Durmstrang, and Beauxbatons) that there is no need to mix those. However, if you are still interested, contact a school admin.

Offering / Asking For Connections
When you offer a connection, please make sure that your family is really suitable for the character you offer it to. Of course, it is nice when you approach new members and let them share your family line, however, it should really be a sensible connection in the first place. Offering connections for the sake of expanding your character's family outside of the school they are affiliated with or their country of origin, unless a business connection, is generally not recommended.

When you ask for connections, please specify the region where your character comes from and, if possible, also a rough status (i.e. something from working class to rich or influential). This usually helps you to find a suitable connection.
