[Announcement] The Quidditch World Cup

Hey folks!

It's time for a very special event again! The Quidditch World Cup is being held in Italy, close to Neroli this summer (that is in July playtime) and you can get involved in several ways!

Of course we need two teams that play in the final and it seems that this time Poland and Wales outperformed the competitors. The team captains are already set, however, we are looking for others to NPC the rest of the Polish and Welsh Quidditch players. Please apply to the captains (Fee for Poland and Lena for Wales) with the name of your NPC and their preferred position.

Other than that, people from all over Magical Hogwarts are of course welcome to attend the event as spectators. We will have a thread for spectators and there will be a campsite where the spectators can reside during their stay in Italy. Those who don't want to stay in tents and can afford it can also travel to Neroli and stay there. Travel between Neroli and the Quidditch grounds will be by the Floo Network for those who are unable to apparate.

For those of you who weren't able to get tickets, here is a brief rundown of what happened in previous rounds of the World Cup:

Quarter finals:

Poland versus Nigeria

~ A good, clean game between two well-matched teams; though Nigeria were unfortunate in that their First string seeker had gone down with dragonpox three days before and the reserve played. Despite a valiant effort and brilliant defence, they went down after two hours thanks to the excellent strategies of Polish Captain Mateusz Dabrowski.

England versus France

~ After a good first round, England never really got it together in this game. Their solitary goal in the third minute seemed to surprise the team so much that they let in the 28 goals before the French seeker snatched the snitch from the opposition's nose after forty three minutes.

Wales versus Madagascar

~ A hard-fought game, with Madagascar looking the stronger team right from the start. Two of the Welsh reserves were playing due to illness and it seemed that Captain Gwenog Jones was going to struggle to hold her team together. However in the third hour Wales rallied and went from 90 points down to a surprise win, to the delight of the crowd.

Sri Lanka versus Ireland

~ From the start Sri Lanka were the weaker team; however they kept going for a total of sixteen and a half hours thanks to a foul early on in the game where the Irish seeker's glasses were knocked from her face. Despite penalties the Sri Lankans were undeterred and played a rather dirty game until finally ending their own chances when their seeker caught the snitch, forgetting that they were 530 points down at the time.

Semi-finals


Poland versus Ireland

~ In a game lasting just seventeen minutes, Poland hammered Ireland who later admitted to being "totally knackered" after the quarter finals!

Wales versus France

~ The most exciting game of the cup so far; even some of the French fans cheered at the Welsh seeker's heroic catching of the snitch after an hour and forty six minutes, despite having broken a finger earlier in the game after being hit with a bludger.

Do we have to buy tickets like last time? ^^

Inga and I weren't members last time around so this hadn't even occurred to us.

You can just assume that your chars bought their tickets - though if you have a working class char who you've always played as being dreadfully poor they won't get top seats unless they manage to pull a Mr Weasley and call in favours from friends! xD

people should apply for the Polish team! Just look at the match reports. They're going into the final match as favourites, having defeated all competitors clearly so far. Come on, you all want to be on a winning team!

Indeed. Edyta has been insisting for the last two hours that she would be an excellent second beater. Stupid child xD

How they help: By being generally bitter that his team didn't even make the quarter finals In the commentator's box acting as a pundit In an attempt to deflect attention from the rumours that he was on Voldemort's side during the Battle of Hogwarts.

Can I just say that I love both these ideas?

And Dermod says he hopes Pius will make sure he's good and drunk before even beginning his commentary...

I think Pius at the quidditch world cup will be rather like Wogan at eurovision...
