Not to mention how deadly, if that's even possible with witches and wizards.  You wouldn't want it to kill off all your healers who'll be in the thick of it.

What about after, could it potentially make someone lose their magic?  Or just weaken them?

Might be a potion? Releases something into the blood stream? Or some ointment that's applied? A combination of runes to ward?

he'res an idea. we don't infect the rest of the population because he announces what he did and why he did it towards the end of the night. they can quarantine everyone at the school. and since he'll still be alive they can interrogate the man to try and figure out what he created. but since he's patient zero, he'd be the first to die.

I think potions would seem logical, and/or runes. Also, how would you know a person had the disease? What're the symptoms? If they weren't stuff like sneezing and coughing that could explain the slow rate of infection.

And only those who want to be sick, would play out geting sick?  I think that would work.

that could work and makes a lot of sense to me.

maybe someone panics though and tries to get out? And causes havoc?

I think you are right though. Controlling the spread is the logical step to take.

And they might seperate the people present by who is showing symptoms. Not everyone there might be ill. The virus might very well need physical contact or something to spread?

It could be restricted to people that do certain things. Like say the virus somehow finds it's way into the drink, then only people who drank from that particular bowl/whatever are infected, as well as the people they touch/kiss whatever?

When I first saw the idea I began considering having Trin die from it, and I still haven't ruled it out.

it could be spread through contact. and he's going around talking to everyone, socializing, acting normal. shaking hands, patting backs, asking women to dance.

easy way to control who gets infected.

Also, he'd probably go after mudbloods, supporters, things like that.

We'd have to let some of it rub off though. Make sure it gets to the students at least a little.

Spread, I mean. Not just by him. But a slow enough way that not every one would get infected.

Yeah, because with that many people around one or two could accidentally bump into him.  Plus also consider that someone my leave early which would bring it out to the masses.  There's tons of options.
