And it might cause a schism. Should we expose ourselves and say why we're immune? No, probably not...but should we help? We might have a clue about how to help...or maybe we'll just let it kill them off (NOLAN >>), or they'll figure it out themselves, this isn't our business... it'd be interesting. >>

Oh yeah, that would make sense...a lot of it. Or even just that they use different magic--like how discipuli lose all ability to cast wand magic...

But if it was diff magic that the virus just wasn't attracted to, would that be useful in the search for a cure?

my reason for elementals being different was always based on the thought that they become progressively less human throughout their lifespan. It's the same reason they age different, can't do wand magic all that well and are immune to some things already. You just can't burn a fire elemental to death, try as you might. (you can drown them though - very effectively)

I think this is useable as to why this illness doesn't effect them -

though we had the idea floating around earlier that it feeds on magic - maybe it needs that magic present in a certain form. That could be a reason too.

I'll have you know Alexa is now jumping for joy.  She's been dreadfully bored without any work to do. ^_^

I'm digging this whole idea after skim reading over it.  I have to agree that the Ball would be an ideal place to kick this off.

Probably not, but it wouldn't stop people from noticing certain people weren't sick even though they should be and it wouldn't stop some compassionate elementals from wanting to come up with some way they could use what they know to help.

lore reason for immunity :

they could purge themselves by morphing as they don't work like a human organism during that time. And when they change back the virus is gone.

Random thought.

I definitely like this idea and it makes great sense.

so we're talking about a disease that attacks people who are magical?
viral or bacterial. i'm thinking Bilogical, because someone with a potions background could create it....
something that feeds off the magic... duplicates it.... causes people to OD on their own magical talents....

Julie I can't quote on my phone! Anyway how would that then be used as a reason for the healers to ask to test the elementals? Is there a certain gene in elementals that causes their immunity?

Well no, they're just different. And people would notice. Imagine at bb where they already know who's an ele--someone would notice none of them are sick.

I don't think healers really know how elementals work and I would not think their immunity is genetic so much as well.. magical.

As to how the cure works - they might not be the key to it. They could simply be a dead end. Sometimes discovering why something is immune is useful if the mechanism can be replicated. Maybe it can't though.

Though if a plague is going around - would everyone be infected in the normal population? That seems unlikely and infeasible. Perhaps a vaccine or something like that could happen quickly while a cure for already infected individuals would take time.

This obviously doesn't need to follow science too closely. We have magic to fill some of the aspects that might not make sense. Within reason of course.

Well it depends on the incubation and the contagiousness, of course, for how many were infected.

I am thinking a bit along the terms of practicalities here as well. I don't wanna force people to RP their char a certain way if they don't want to. So it probably shouldn't be spreading too fast. I know I have chars I'd rather not play in that situation simple because nothing of note would come from it. Though I have a bunch who I think will be fun in this plot!

How exactly would the magical world go about vaccinating? I'm just imagining a healer pointing their wand at people and going "...Vaccinate...us...o!" Hehehehe
