(solved) Curious question
« on: March 18, 2013, 05:15:28 PM »
So I'm honestly not sure if I can ask things I'm simply curious about here, if not just delete this.

I was browsing through the advice thread thing for the special features and I saw something called 'Consensimency'. I googled it found a link another board to a topic hear on it, but I guess it's been removed or something.

Anyone help a brotha out and explain what it is?

Hi there, I'm Carys, one of the admins. It's perfectly fine to ask questions out of random curiosity!

I had a hunt round for consensimency because it *used* to be a special feature and found it mentioned in the special features advice topic here. It was basically a form of empathy, and as it didn't add much to a character that they couldn't have by just being sensitive to the feelings of others, we scrapped it a whole back.

Hope that helps a bit!

It's nice to meet you (: Thank you for your quick response. The guide you sent especially helped. I appreciate you taking the time to dig that up for me.

Can I ask a quick question about my character, too?

You so nice.

Okay, so Auguste's a muggleborn, and I was planning on having his grandmother (possibly great-grandmother), a squib, to live in Viennimont, the Wizarding village near Bordeaux. Now seeing as he is muggleborn, I was wondering if it would acceptable for his mother and siblings to live with her in Viennimont after they left even though they are muggle? I was just curious because they obviously know about the Wizarding world and using magic around them is not illegal (if I'm wrong about this please let me know, I'm just reasoning here).

I wasn't sure how things like this would work. I would think it wouldn't be a problem, but I always think asking is the best solution, so.

Hey there, It is Lauren here.

My question for you is why would his grandmother/great grand mother want to live around wizards if the rest of her family is muggles and one muggleborn?  It doesnt make whole lot of sense for them to live in a world that they cannot really take a part in to me.  Also if you consult our handy dandy blood status chart there is some information about squibs.  If this squib is indeed a great grand mother than I would assume that her grandchildren probably were raised as muggles with very little knowledge of the magical world other than what they believe were stories they were told as children.

Hope that helps!

Hey there, I'll see if I can explain my thoughts shortly, though they would be expanded upon in his history.

Louise Morel was a witch born to a low-class couple living in Viennimont. Her mother ran a clothing shop which never seemed to get its feet off the ground, which Louise helped with when she was a young girl. She learned to knit and sew, and though it took her much longer, she eventually grew to be able to stitch clothing together, which over time became better and better. After leaving home she settled in nearby Bordeaux, eventually marrying a Muggle man and having a family. She stayed settled for a good number of years, until the death of her husband in 1947. With her kids having long left to settle down with families of their own, and her not wanting to stay in the home she shared with him, she decided to move back to Viennimont, to her old family home inherited when her parents passed, due to having relatively pleasant childhood memories there. She started her mother's shop back up, hiring witches to make the clothing as her skills got slower as time took its toll; possible only because of her small wealth from her shop in Bordeaux.

Or that's how I imagined it. If that's not acceptable or you're not comfortable with it I'll just scrap it, no big deal.

I can see the squib herself moving back for that reason, but as far as future generations living there I do not see that as likly.  As a suggestion, make the grandmother the squib.  That way her grandchildren could visit her there for holidays and the like, and be aware what the magical world is about.  This would also let his grandmother be able to be the one to really explain things to him when he gets his letter, and even take him shopping.  Does that make sense/work for you?  So basically they would be familliar with the magical world to an extent, but not live in it or know all of what it is about.

That works perfectly well, actually. I'm going to use what you said and just scrap the other parts, I think what you came up with makes much more sense. Thank you so much for taking the time to sort this out with me, I really appreciate it.

This is finished, I guess? I'm not sure if I'm supposed to mark it or something.
