Fix you up. [Tag; Luuk]

With a soft pop a man appeared out of thin air, and appeared to have begun walking before he even hit the ground. Both hands were occupied, carrying a box a little too large for him to grip comfortably. He strode past the front entrance, greeting the middle-aged wizard standing guard, making sure only authorized personnel entered the reserve. After years spent at several of the same dragon reserves, Zacharie couldn't remember the last time he had been stopped to confirm his authorization to walk in, though on occasion a new hire might stop him.

Within a couple of minutes, the mediwizard had made his way back to the temporary medical tent that had been erected for the week's activities. Normally, there was a medical building near the main entrance and that was wear Zach could usually be found throughout the day, except on rare occasion that they may need an extra wand out on the reserves. However, throughout the week they had begun the process of transporting several of the larger dragons to different parts of the reserve; this greatly increased the odds of one of the handlers getting hurt than they were through everyday work. Normally he could only be found on the Romanian reserve when the primary Healer took vacation or was sick, but she had requested his aid for the week, and they had certainly needed it.

"Here we go, this should get us through the rest of the week," he informed the other Healer, setting the box down on a table. Thankfully most injuries hadn't been too serious, but the two had been burning through antiseptic potion like crazy. While more than capable with a wand, Zacharie was a talented potioneer, and this was his method of choice in his healing whenever possible; he had made a quick trip to Sweden, where we had a large stockpile of potion ingredients, and had retrieved the supplies they were running low on. There seemed to be a halt to injuries, as nearly half an hour went by without any new wounds to treat. He suggested that his coworker get some food and possibly some sleep, as the two had been working since the early hours of the morning. With nothing else to do, he lit up the cauldron, readying their supplies for the inevitable injuries left to come.

Finally having gotten to live out his dream of being a dragon trainer in Romania had been nothing short of incredible. Luuk was thrilled that he’d finally made it to the reserve, and was actually really working with dragons, it was all still a little surreal. The recent graduate hadn’t been to thrilled about what it had done to his personal life, but he had knew that something like what had happened with Gen had been a real possibility, he had just been hoping that he would be some sort of exception, and he hadn’t been. He supposed their brief meeting at Prop’s party, and semi frequent letters would help them figure out what they were going to do, and he was afraid what that might mean, but knew whatever the outcome they would have to deal with together. Thankfully his work had been a major distraction from anything remotely related to his girlfriend, or ex-girlfriend? He honestly didn’t know, and was glad for the distraction.

He’d managed to get himself singed and cut more times than he could count, all minor so far, and he was grateful for that much. But he knew his inexperience might start showing more now that the real handling was about to begin. Moving dragons, feral dragons at that, proved to be extremely challenging. The ex Belle knew that if he wasn’t extra careful, he’d be heading to the healers tent for some extra attention, and no rookie, himself included wanted to be a rookie. It was a constant inner battle for the man. Did he risk doing things above his experience level as a way to prove himself? Or did he take the safer route and stick to being the new kid on the block for a few more weeks? It was a question the young trainer had never really considered till recently, and he wasn’t quite sure what to do about it.

It seemed like fate had some other ideas, though. Luuk had been working for what seemed like ages, from dawn, till his boss told him to go get some sleep, which wasn’t too early. Getting used to the lack of sleep and constant list of various duties didn’t look like it’d ever get any easier, and as he had learned quickly, it was no excuse either. His day of needing to go visit the Healer had come. What had been a regular night check on a small herd of Chinese Fireballs, if they could really be called small, when he’d gotten caught in the middle of a small dispute between two of the dragons. Being singed mildly had hurt, but getting a burn seemed to hurt worse than he would have imagined. Cursing quietly to himself and shaking his head at his own carelessness, Luuk made the quick jog over to the designated tent, barely remembering to announce himself, peering into the dimness, looking for the healer he’d been introduced to a few short days ago.

Instead his gaze landed on an even more unfamiliar figure, and he realized he really was out of his element still. He had a lot of catching up to do. Caught between not wanting to be rude, and wanting the stinging sensation that was plaguing his arm to stop, the man decided to simply start talking “Um, Pardon....are you the healer here?” Merlin’s beard, he sounded like an idiot.

As he stirred the cauldron, the wizard continued to check his watch. On such busy days as today, a gap in visitors to the medical staff that lasted this long had to be some sort of record. He hadn't really had any word of the schedule of the day, but as far as Zacharie knew, they hadn't allocated time for any breaks; maybe it was just a lucky break for all of them. While most people preferred to be busy at work, Zach certainly didn't mind a lull in business. His job was to alleviate pain, or at least lessen it, but he certainly couldn't complain if it was nonexistent.

As though someone knew what he had been thinking, the silence of the tent was disrupted as someone joined him. In the blink of an eye, Zacharie retrieved his wand from the table, tapping the cauldron to cause the stirring motion to continue. While some wizards did this with all of their potions, Zacharie preferred to do it himself; it was almost meditative for him. The question threw him off just a little bit, but it did make sense. Since he had left Beauxbatons, he had never worked in just one place. Maybe it was wanderlust, but he found himself bouncing between countries rather frequently. Because of this, he had become much accustomed to seeing new faces around that he didn't recognize, so the fact that he had never met this man wasn't on the forefront of his mind. "Yes, I am. Monseiur Stolojan is taking a break at the moment." The French title probably sounded strange mixed in with the Romanian words, but old habits died hard, and it was one Zacharie had never been able to ditch.

One thing Zach enjoyed about the less formal setting of working on a reserve was that he didn't have to play twenty questions to cover his own ass over liability. Without a word, he took the dragon handler's arm, extending it fully and rotating it. "Yep, that's definitely a burn. Good news is, you came to the right place." These sorts of jokes were staples in his work; while he enjoyed it, the humor was obviously not as appreciated by their audience until he had managed their pain at least a little bit. While it certainly looked like the dragon had hit its intended target, the man wasn't acting as though he were in unbearable pain. Zacharie certainly didn't want to worry rile him up, so he did the best he good to act as with a very low sense of emergency. The healer crossed the room in a few strides, opening a trunk and rummaging through in silence. He pulls out a vial wrapped in a cloth, and a larger towel. He returns with both in hand. He uncaps the liquid and covers it with the cloth, flipping it to soak it. He dabs the liquid onto the burn for a few moments.

"It's Comfrey Extract. It has anti-inflammatory properties, though I think you will like this much better." With a few, nonchalant waves of his wand, he had produced a few shards of ice, wrapping them tightly in the towel. "Hold that on top, but don't take the towel off; direct contact will damage the skin. I was actually working on a Burn Paste, but it won't be ready for a few more minutes. This should help alleviate some of the pain until it is finished. Have a seat by the table if you want. You could probably use some time off your feet anyways."

He offered the words with a smile as he returned to his cauldron, acquiring elder leaves on his way, sprinkling them into the cauldron as it continued to stir. He took over the motion again, looking back up as he continued. "I'm Zacharie by the way. Boucher if you prefer surnames, but Zach or Zacharie's fine with me. You look pretty young, is this your first summer on the reserve?"

Once his eyes had adjusted to the darkness inside the tent, he could see the man, or the healer, rather much more clearly. As he listened to the other wizards explanation, he nodded, and his ears picked up on the rare French word, that was something a little different, but it was welcome nonetheless. Luuk was still picking up on Romanian, so any chance to speak French or, of course Dutch was a welcome one. Luuk couldn't help but wince a little as the healer extended his arm, pulling on the burnt skin as it moved with the rest of his limb. Burns were something he was going to have to get used to if he wanted to continue on the reserve, and the man knew that. It didn't do much to lessen the stupidity he felt at getting burned in the first place or the determination to keep on going. Although he was in a bit of pain, Luuk couldn't help but crack a small smile at the older man's quip, it wasn't hilarious, but he had to give him some credit.

He was in pain, but it wasn't unbearable by any means. Luuk had come to the healer to get it tended to, knowing that he would be the one to be able to give him what he needed to help the tender skin heal faster than it would have on its own. Not to mention, with it being his first burn, Luuk had wanted to make sure that it was as mild as it looked, rather than leaving something worse that needed attending to chance. Taking a breath, Luuk watched as the healer made his way about the tent, grabbing a few items here and there, not rushing. The Belle couldn't help wonder if some of that was for his benefit, and he supposed if it was, he appreciated it.

When he started to explain what everything was, Luuk listened intently, not being able to remember if he'd heard of Comfrey extract before that. The rest of what he was telling him made sense, though, and Luuk nodded to let him know he understood. Holding the towel as he was instructed, Luuk let himself half fall, half sit in the offered chair. It was probably the first time he'd gotten to sit down all day, at least as far as he could tell. Glancing over at the healer Luuk returned the smile with one of his own, before he turned his attention to what the man was saying. Nodding again, Luuk spoke “Nice to meet you, Monsieur Boucher. Although I think I'll call you Zach instead. I'm Luuk, Luuk Groendendijk, by the way.” Having just graduated from Beauxbatons, Luuk was still getting over the habit of addressing anyone older than him, or anyone who held authority over him, formally at all times. Some habits really did die hard. Luuk laughed and smiled sheepishly at the man's next question “ That easy to tell, huh?” He laughed “But, yes. It's my first summer here. I recently graduated from Beauxbatons.” While he sat with Zach, Luuk couldn't help wonder when the newness would start to fade, and begin to be replaced by some experience, he supposed only time would really tell.

As he watched the younger man, he could tell as he sat that it had been a long time since he had done so. Zacharie knew that feeling all too well; while most of his career had been spent in similar settings to the one he was in now, he had spent some time in various hospitals. While he enjoyed medicine in all of its forms, the downtime that reserves typically made for fit nicer with what he enjoyed. The fast pace environment was exciting, certainly, but highly exhausting. His work here could be as well, but it was much less frequent that he returned home feeling like a punching bag. The last time he had been at St. Mungo's, he had been caught in the middle of a violent rage from a patient in the psychiatric ward; some of the handler's could be rather rude in pompous, but typically they weren't insane.

He could feel the consistency of the potion changing; where his stirring rotations were very fluid a few minutes ago, he was now meeting some resistance on every turn. This was a good sign. For it to help the burn, he needed it to have a more solid consistency. Zach took another look at the effected arm as he listened; it didn't look like it was going to be a highly serious burn, but dragon fire always left a rather nasty wound to deal with. The magical properties were much more intense than a burn one would get from a natural flame.

The word 'Monsieur' stuck out like a sore thumb. When he heard this, his head immediately rose to look at the boy. Now that he thought about it, he could almost pick out an accent that was distinctly different from many of the more common Eastern European ones he had been hearing over the last few days. His suspicions were confirmed as the he introduced himself; Groendendjik was absolutely not form the area. That name was very distinctly Dutch, one he hadn't heard since he had stopped spending much time back in Chatoeil.

With the dots connected before the boy got to the end of his thoughts, hearing the name of his old school didn't come as much of a shock as it may have just a few minutes prior. Still, it was still very coincidental that he would run into someone from his alma mater several countries away from home. "Just graduated! You are brand new then, aren't you!" The words were offered with a smile, not meant in a demeaning way. "The name Boucher probably gave it away, but I also attended Beauxbatons. I didn't graduate this past spring though, I have a good decade and a half on you in that respect." The healer didn't fancy himself old, but he couldn't help the fact that every year there was a new generation of wizards entering the work force, making him become more and more so. "I was in Bellefeuille House while I was there. I heard from Mademoiselle Dumars that you all claimed the House Cup this previous term. Congratulations!" Looking back down at his potion, he smiled at the boy again. "I have even more good news for you, Luuk. It looks like this should be ready any minute now. It will do the trick, but I should warn you, it isn't going to be nearly as pleasing to your olfactory as it will be to your skin."

Nodding sheepishly Luuk grinned, he was new. Very brand new, as his burn probably gave away, but he also didn’t feel like the healer was making fun of him either “Yes. Very, I suppose. But I can’t say I mind now that I’m actually here.” That was the truth too, Luuk hadn’t necessarily expected to get a position on the reserve, and to simply be there was more than he could ask for this far. He was hoping though that the number of silly mistakes he was making would go down sooner than later, and that he’d catch onto Romanian some day soon. They were’t things he had any real right to complain about, and so he kept himself quiet. Everyone here had gone through the same thing at one point or another if they were at the reserve, it was just simply his turn.

As Zach continued to talk the wizard found himself nodding along. It was nice to be talking about things he was familiar with, at least more so than with things on the reserve at the moment, but Luuk knew that that would change too. Hearing that his healer was a fellow Bellefeuille only served to make the recent grad grin a little bigger. He’d never realized how much he took the things he saw as familiar as granted until now. Ah, yes, the House Cup! Laughing, Luuk spoke “Mm thank you! It was quite a nice achievement to end my time at Beauxbatons with! Although I must confess that I probably wasn’t one of the bigger contributors, even as a Mousquetaire. I was caught up in enjoying time my friends. Particularly because I was anticipating moving here, and knew I wouldn’t be able to drop in regularly.” Shrugging Luuk fell silent while the healer gave him an even better bit of news.

So, it wouldn’t smell as good as it would feel? That wasn’t much of a surprise, in his experience things didn’t tend to smell good and work well, usually it was one or the other. Luuk wouldn’t have denied the fact that he was looking forward to getting some relief for his arm. It didn’t hurt terribly, but it wasn’t something he was likely going to forget any time soon. Watching Zach continue to stir the potion, Luuk spoke up “Oh, I think I can live with the smell as long as it treats the burn. This is a dragon reserve after all, not many things smell nice around here.” Finishing with a laugh Luuk waited patiently for the Extract to be ready. The sooner it was done, he supposed, the sooner he could get some sleep.

As he continued to chat up and observe Luuk, Zacharie felt very confident he would do just fine on the reserve. With many years now behind him working on reserves, the man had seen his fair share of first timers, and had even been one himself, though not as a dragon trainer. "The best thing you can do while you're here is keep a good attitude. It won't be easy, but that's honestly what I've noticed makes or breaks people here." Many young wizards and witches seemed to come to the reserves with the idea that because they were top tier students at their respective schools that they would be head honchos there as well. Anyone who came with those sort of expectations almost always had huge reality checks very quickly. Especially with the western European schools with relatively little, if any, experience with dragons, practical application of magic to handle them was something that required a lot more critical thinking than any coursework they had ever seen. It wasn't that they were any less qualified than Durmstrang students, they just had to work just a little harder in the beginning to get a handle on things.

The healer looked down at the potion, taking a moment to check the temperature as well as the consistency, poking it a bit to make sure it had acquired the firmness that showed that the ingredients had melded together enough to complete their job. "Looks like we're ready," he said, lifting his wand again, guiding the contents of the potion through the air and into a small bowl beside his cauldron. "Looks appetizing, doesn't it," he laughed, grimacing at the concoction that appeared to be very similar to mud that had begun to dry in the head of midday.

He walked to his patient, examining the burn once again before beginning application. "As I apply the paste, it should solidify almost immediately. Most of the heat will be absorbed, and you will also feel a pretty no ticable tingling sensation. This is just the proteins in your skin that were broken down by the burn being repaired, just at a much quicker rate than your body would typically do so." Zacharie didn't wait to finish his explanation before he began applying the brown potion to the younger man. As he did, he gestured to match what he was explaining, covering the burn completely. Once he was done, he covered it once again for good measure. The second layer may have been slight overkill, but he liked to be thorough, especially when he was sending someone back out to work.

"You'll need to leave that on for about thirty minutes, but as long as you're not doing anything too intense, you should be able to work with it." He searched around the workspace for a moment, before capturing a vial of neem oil. "Mix this with some soap and water, and it should wash right off whenever you're ready." He quickly wrapped a bandage around the paste, just to make sure it would finish its job.

"Any more questions before I send you out?"

A positive attitude? Luuk could see how that might be a pretty big determining factor in how long a person made it around the reserve. After all, it wasn’t like the reserve was a luxury spa. In fact, the reserve was probably about as far away from a luxury spa as something could get. But that didn’t really bother the ex-Bellefeuille, he had known that when he’d applied to work there. Not wanting to give the healer the impression that he wasn’t listening the tall blonde man nodded agreeably. It was sound advice, particularly coming from someone who had experience working on a reserve. Lots more experience than Luuk had himself, anyway. It didn’t take long for Luuk to decide that he liked the Healer’s way of thinking, and hoped he’d see him around more often.

Laughing along with the Healer, Luuk shook his head “Oh yeah. Good enough to eat.” Except not at all. The paste looked like mud, and smelled like something much worse. A something that he couldn’t quite put his finger on, but the Dutchman wasn’t sure he wanted to know what it really smelled like. But he was glad to see that the paste had finally thickened and was ready for application. It wasn’t that Luuk hadn’t enjoyed meeting the French Healer, he had, but his body wanted to sleep more than he wanted to stay up and chat, and it wasn’t like he had too many hours for sleeping as it was.

Nodding again, as Zach began explaining the function of the paste, Luuk paid close attention. He wasn’t worried about something not going according to plan as much as he wanted to make sure he understood on the off chance that something did go wrong. Once he began applying the mixture, Luuk could feel exactly what the man had been describing. There was that tingling sensation. It didn’t hurt or feel all that strange, but it was one of those feelings that the body registered just to make it a little distracting. It did feel better though, there was no denying that.

The man made a note to remind himself to apply the Neem oil to the paste, that seemed easy enough. Nodding quickly to show that he understood Luuk looked up at the healer “Thirty minuets. Got it.” And as Zach finished wrapping the paste in a bandage Luuk stuck out his other free hand “Thank you, Monsieur. I owe you for getting to me so quickly.” He was glad to have at least one one friend, even if the man was only subbing for the regular healer, it had been nice to feel that familiarity for a while. Did he have any more questions? No, he didn’t.

Grinning and giving the healer another nod Luuk stood, stretching his long frame “ I think that about covers it, really. I couldn’t be more thankful.” With that, once the healer had given him the official okay, Luuk waved a farewell and exited the tent, and walked back out into the night.
