[solved] Transfiguration vs. Metamorphagus
« on: March 30, 2014, 07:02:57 PM »
Where does one draw the line between normal transfigurations/alterations and the abilities of a metamorphagus? I understand that metamorphagi are able to do these alterations innately and naturally, without a wand, but where is the "limit" as far as regular characters?

It's an ability that the person is born with, though the effect can be simulated with potions and charms, by normal wizards.

Basically, the character I'm working on changes her appearance a lot, nothing drastic like facial or body structure, just things like her hair length or color, perhaps even eye color from time to time. I mean, these things could be simulated by wigs and contact lenses, so this can always be done "non magically," but then again, she is a witch so... I just don't want to break any rules.

Thanks!

A metamorphmagus can do complete drastic changes almost on a whim. Small things like hair color or eye color can be modified with potions or charms, for sure, but they'd wear off after awhile, etc.

hope this helped. I had a metamorphmagus at one point so that is easy-peasy stuff that your gal can do with regular magic.

Ok, I figured as much, but I wanted to double check. She's very fickle and fluid with her appearance, so even if it wears off over time she'd be good.

Thanks Ashton!

Mallory is a Metamorphagus.
She is not very good with magic, but changing her appearance is more part of her being.
Its controlled by emotions too.

I think its a lot of fun.
A very talented metamorphmagi can do a lot more with their appearance but it takes years of control and practice.
Mal just changes her hair color and eye color. Recently started to put tattoos on herself to help a friend out. She still is working on facial features.

I agree with everything here. ^^

Just wanted to add that if a seventh year boy can turn his face into a shark face, then little changes like hair and eye colour would be fine xD
