[Solved] Blood purity
« on: March 27, 2015, 05:38:46 PM »
Alright, so I a have possibly complicated question about EFBs and blood purity.

If a family is pureblooded all but for a branch or two, would they be able to claim that?

More specifically, the character's great-grandfather married a halfblood making everyone of that branch halfblooded, but his siblings all married into pureblooded families to continue tradition. So I'm just a bit confused about how to classify the family as a whole since most of it, like the 'main branch' is pureblooded, while only the character's is halfblooded.

If I need to make a mock family tree to show what I mean I'm more than willing 'cause I'm kind of confusing myself with this >>

The only thing you need to worry about when it comes to the blood line is your character. If his parents/grandparents/great-grandparents were all halfbloods because his great-grandfather married one, then that's what he would be as well. Whoever the siblings marry doesn't effect your character and therefore you don't need to worry about them.

I hope that answers your question :)

It does, thank you ^^

Follow up question: if a pureblood character bearing the family's name were to come about  (i.e. from the main part of the family) how would that work since the EFB for the whole family is marked Halfblood?

You wouldn't need an EFB for an halfblood family unless you're applying for them to be rich and/or influential. Or you making a family line that has the same last name as a character on the board? I'm confused at what you mean with a pureblood character bearing the family names comes about.

I think what they mean is what happens if they submit an EFB for their branch which would be labelled half blood. Then later someone decided to adopt a cousin or whatever on the wizarding side. Do they need to have it reclassified in that scenario?

Just because it's a relevant example I'll use Alain here

He and his sister Eleanor are half-bloods as they have a mother who is a muggle and a father who is a pureblood wizard. So their father and his siblings are still purebloods even if Alain and Eleanor are halfbloods.
However, Angry Panda and I could allow someone to adopt a cousin on his fathers side. Since the brother of his father would be a pureblood wizard if he were to marry a pureblood witch they'd be pure bloods still.

So in that scenario branch A of the St. Clare's (Alain and Eleanor's) would produce half blood children while branch B (the adoptable family) of the St. Clare's would produce pureblood children.

Ahhh yes okay thank you Tye for clearing that up for me ^^

You still don't have to submit an EFB, but if you want to create one for that side of the family and keep it in your sandbox for the future you can. That way if someone takes a cousin to play then you can already have an EFB written for them - or you can let them write one if it doesn't matter to you :)

Thank you sooo much for explaining that for me, I was having some trouble because my example is farther off.
