[Solved] Playtime

Hello!

I have read the FAQ and (many of) the rules, but there are a couple of things about the playtime that I don't fully comprehend. It's currently June 2000, aka nearing the end of the term. The time will change in 1/2/2.5 months (I gathered that this is not set in stone) to July 2000?

I want to make my character a 1st year. So if I do that now, he will be in the last month of school.

1.If the month then changes to July, I guess I'll have to play him outside of a school setting for a couple of months, until in-game September?

2.When it is indeed in-game September, will my character still be a 1st year, or move on to 2nd year? I mean I understood it's based on post count, but won't it be weird to roleplay the end of year etc and still be a 1st
year?

Hi Anca,

welcome to MH!

Yes, the playtime does not change after a certain time span. It can vary.

1. Yes, until the new term starts you can play your character out of school.

2. I would actually advise you to make your character an underage wizard first, i. e. not a first year but set the character up in a way that he / she will be a first year for the new term. That way you can play right from the start at Hogwarts.

As a side note - you do not have to start with a first year student. You can create a character of any age.

Hello, I'm Carys, one of the admins.

You're correct about the current playtime, so there are a couple of possibilities.

Firstly, you can play your char as a first year in the End of term and then have him starting in September as a second year.

Alternatively, he/she can be sorted as an underage wizard/witch and RP in areas like Diagon Alley and Hogsmeade for the next couple of months (because students will be on vacation anyway) and then 'start' at Hogwarts in September playtime. Don't forget that all students will be on vacation during that time, so there won't be a lack of opportunities to meet other characters during July and August!

(you can post in the End of term and then restart as a first year if you want to, but I agree, that would seem rather odd!)

Hope that helps,

(HAHA - yes, what Inga says :) )
