New year, new MH!

... part one.

(I'm posting this early since it's already 2016 in a few places, and I won't be around later.)

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

This upcoming year the administration has lots of awesome things planned for y'all. From events to new features, we hope you'll enjoy what we have in store.

The first new feature we're introducing is an RPG Age Calculator. In this feature you can plug in your character's date of birth (year included) and see how old they are in current playtime, as well as what year they're going into (for students) and what year they graduated (for adults).

Glad y'all like it. ^_^

I also forgot to mention that you can access it easily by hovering over Profile on the menu. It's the last link option available.

This is really really cool! But I have a bunch of technical questions from playing around with it...

General question: It says that, for example, 1st years should be 11 or 12 when they arrive for the school year. With the new playtime being 1st September for the beginning of term for all students, shouldn't they all be 11 years old when they arrive? Is the 12 just to account for the September 1st corner case? I saw that it's taking August 31 as a possible birthday too, so maybe that's it...I always thought everyone who turned 11 on August 31 would start the next day, instead of the next year

I'm also detecting a mismatch with my characters' ages...
For example, I have Brita's birthday as March 25, 1977.
Since current playtime is July 2000, that means she should have turned 23 on March 25, 2000, but I'm getting an age of 22 from the calculator.
tl;dr calculator doesn't take playtime month into account, which can be confusing.

I'm also getting errors that are one too high on graduation year for students born before September.
Ari's birthday is September 17, 1982; she will turn 18 in September playtime. The calculator correctly outputs her age as 17 and her year as 7th. However, a student who was born August 17, 1982 would have graduated in May, but the calculator will spit out 7th year for that as well instead of graduated 2000.
--> So Brita's graduation year is given as 1996 when it was really 1995, but my WIP Michelle, born December 1978, has the correct age of 21 and graduation year of 1997.
tl;dr the calculator seems to be based on calendar year instead of school year, leading me to get 6th year for students born January 1983 but 7th year for students born December 1982 although they are only a month apart, leading to some quirky problems with graduation year as well.

Happy New Year MH! <3333

Also @Ariana Laurier, this was Fee's project so I don't really know the ins and outs of hows it is coded, but are all of the things you mentioned above still occurring? I tried to recreate all of them and I got the correct answers for each of them.

Yeah...here's a set of screenshots I just took!

Ari's September birthday (correct) vs an August 17 birthday (incorrect, should have graduated)

Brita's March birthday (incorrect, should be 23, graduated 1995) vs Michelle's December birthday (correct)

Curiouser and curiouser! When I put in Linnet's birthday of 23rd January 1983 in it comes up as 7th year for her!

Maybe it's just my account then?! The fifth screenshot I've just put up shows what happens when I try Jan 1 1983 :P

Edit: i tried it on Lionel, Kendrick, Brita, Christèle, and Brynja and received the same result.
These tests were done yesterday on my computer in Chrome and today on my iPhone in Safari.

I think I may have figured it out?

The format for the date is YYYY/MM/DD. Try using a double digit month(03 for March instead of 3) and see if that works? I think that might be where the problem is.

Thanks Cameron, you're a genius.

I can't be the only one who messed that up (or maybe I'm just dumb)—maybe a little one-line reminder would be beneficial x.X
