Snow!

Actual, proper, lovely, powdery snow! Back home, snow turned to slush almost instantly. She'd never seen anything like this before. It was utterly beautiful, like it was a scene from a postcard. Sun reflected off the pristine snow as it fell around her thickly as she walked, making her feel like she was some sort of magical ice princess.

Ruari couldn't ski. She could barely walk in a straight line most of the time but it was a stolen weekend in December. Before all of the madness of Christmas came to a head. The tall blonde paid no attention to stress. She was the type who loved her family but left everything to the last minute. She was usually wrapping their presents at noon on Christmas Day. The stress and the anxiety that went hand in hand with the festive season was a breeze. Stress just seemed to slid off her, like water off a duck's back. She was impervious to it.

It was a mini vacation with her boyfriend. Coming from such big families, Ruari knew that they'd only be able to spend Christmas morning together before they'd have to split and do the rounds. Hal had been working hard and it was even harder to get some time off but she hoped he'd enjoy himself. How could he not?

Ruari felt like she was in her own little world. Nestled on a mountain, the fresh breeze kicked up the ends of her blonde hair that was crushed beneath a thickly knitted bobble hat. Dressed in a coat with a large faux fur hood, she had been toying with the idea of a ski lesson. It looked amazing but she knew her limitations; she wasn't mad.

They'd booked one of those cute little lodges. It came with a cosy interior, leather sofas and a crackling fire. Ruari thought Hal needed a  break and she was sure that the feeling was likewise. It was all warm wood with blankets. A beautiful bath with a large and sumptuous bed. She'd already jumped around on it and it was a cracker.

Both busy, they'd gone through a patch of passing like ships in the night. She was leaving for work when he was coming home. She'd put a stop to that. Growing apart had been the reason for their last break up. Hal might not know it but he was her be all and end all. There would never be anyone else for her and he'd just have to get used to it.

It was just nice to get away and get away they had. They were on the opposite side of the world and it was beautiful. It was remote but friendly but more importantly, it was fun.

Ruari's winter boots crunched on the snow, giggling as it came up past her ankles. She didn't care. The main lodge had an amazing panoramic restaurant which she wanted to visit later. She'd been up very early this morning. She'd watched the sun rise over the peak of the mountains and it had stunned her into silence, so much so that she'd forgotten to drink her tea.

She felt light and fluffy as she bounded along. It was a little after two in the afternoon and she was already frozen. Pink cheeked and shining with a childlike innocence, she loped over to Hal with a beatific grin. She slipped on the melting snow, letting the hot cider slosh over the side of the cup before she made it to him. She presented it to him. The sun caught her unkempt curls, lighting up her pretty face. She looked as though she was sixteen again.

"Isn't this fun?" Ruari asked, her grey eyes wide as the snow fell thickly, snorting with laughter as a flake fell on her nose, causing her to wrinkle it cutely. They were in a Christmas wonderland. And they had a perfectly nice, perfectly unused warm cabin back at the lodges.

She offered him another grin as she stomped her almost-frozen toes. Oh she did wish he was enjoying himself. She knew Hal. He was always thinking. She hoped his attention was on her and not the stack of papers in his home. She'd seen them, she'd even filed most of them for him. Ruari was a walking contradiction. She was incredibly chaotic but she was always neat. Her invoices were tip-top all of the time.

"Do you wanna go for a walk?" She asked, extending a gloved hand towards him to hold as she leaned in and placed a kiss on his frozen nose.
