Labor and sparring

Freya really didn't know the ins and outs of the Regan family and all of the things they got up to, but she did know that their family was nothing like hers. Through Kerr, she'd learned a lot implicitly and explicitly. He'd missed out on months of school after being attacked just because someone had wanted to hurt his family. That would never happen in her family, at least not in any of the branches of her family tree anywhere close to her. Freya didn't comment on his words, just letting them sort of slide by instead. If she thought about it too much she knew she might not like what she found.

Freya followed his gaze over her shoulder to the windows at the front of the bar before turning back and taking another sip of her drink. Freya might have sobered up just a touch over the past twenty minutes or so but she was still quite tipsy. She kept smiling at her friend. "Just take the compliment," she said, mock-chastising him teasingly. Freya's eyes met his for a moment and she made herself look away before the gaze betrayed her thoughts. Stupid she told herself again.

"Sorry?" she asked, wondering why he'd apologised, "Oh about Kerr? No, I'm sure we'll catch up sometime. It's a small world, right?" Freya remembered thinking about the fact that she probably knew almost every witch and wizard a couple of years older and younger than her. Being quidditch captain had helped with that, she supposed. Lots of people at school had known her and that made her want to put in effort to know them too. The blonde played with her newly shortened strands of hair absentmindedly as she sipped her drink. "I'm really glad that we got to catch up," she said. When Freya drank, she got sentimental.

He gave a chuckle with his nod as an inked covered hand rose. “Okay, I’ll take it. This time.” He wasn’t used to praise because of his shenanigans. Jay had always been a problem child so he rarely knew what it was like to do something right. Like now, when he should be sobering up so that he could see her homes safely he took another drink from his glass  He felt like that awkward kid he’d been when he’d first seen her. He felt unsure of his ability to make a sound choice. The choice he wanted to make wasn’t a good one, it was selfish he was sure. It painted him to be the bad person that he knew he was, so he couldn’t. He couldn’t let his eyes trace over her face or allow them to skim the line of her neck.

He couldn’t think about whether her lips would be soft if they were to kiss. He knew he shouldn’t let his mind think of how it would feel to have her wrapped up in his arms. No, these were the things he should never do. “Huh…” He looked at her as her voice broke through his thoughts. What was the matter with him? He was surely losing his mind. “Right Kerr.” There was his name again, a reminder not to be stupid. “I’m sure you guys will run into each other.” He hoped otherwise and quickly scolded himself. “I mean look at us, I know you never thought we’d bump into each other again.”

He gave her a smile an inked hand rises to run over his head. “I know, it is nice to see you. To catch up.” He looked at her for a moment before letting his eyes drop to the bar. What was he doing? He had to be better didn’t he? “We should hangout when we’re actually sober.” He chanced a glance up at her. “I mean if you wanted to. No pressure.” He cleared his throat as he finished his drink considering refilling it but deciding against it. He moved to walk around the bar, sitting one stool distance from her.

“You know, when we were in school I had a tiny crush on you.” He chuckled as his hands tapped against the bar top. “It was before you and Kerr starting dating. “ He didn’t look at her this time, his eyes glued to his hands. “It’s crazy when I think about how I used to be and what I am now. It seems like lifetimes ago…” So much had changed from then to now. How could he be sure that what he was feeling wasn’t because he had had more than his fair share of drinks. It was the right choice to stop otherwise he might reach his limit.  “If only I knew then what I know now, you know?”

Freya finished her drink with a final sip. Unlike her drinking companion, Freya did not have all too much resilience or stamina when it came to alcohol. She felt her senses dulled at the edges, felt her inhibitions kept at bay by the drink running through her veins. It felt nice, really. She was a smiley, sentimental drunk. She was the kind of girl who loved dancing when sober, and even more so when she was drinking. Freya hadn't really had bad experiences with alcohol before, and she certainly wasn't having a bad time now. In some ways, she thought, maybe it was a little too good. Freya had been whisked away to a mysterious location by a boy that she didn't know that well anymore. In the middle of the night.

Freya thought he was cute. Hot, really. It wasn't so much of an opinion as it was an objective truth. A lot of the Regan cousins were stupidly good-looking - Kerr included, obviously.  The tattoos caught her eye and Jay had a spark in his smile that made her blush when he shone it at her. But Freya didn't want to entertain those thoughts. There was something sort of wrong about thinking about your ex boyfriend's best friend like that. Self consciously, Freya adjusted the hem of her denim shorts. "Of course," she said with a breezy smile. Freya noted the weird sensation of feeling a thin sheen of sweat across her collarbones at the same time as being sort of cold. The alcohol kept the cool air at bay, but only to a certain extent. She'd left her jacket at the party and was in a simple singlet and shorts. "We could get a coffee or something?" She almost suggested getting a drink but decided it sounded too flirty. No matter how good-looking he was, Freya didn't want to cross any lines here.

Jay came around her side of the bar, taking a seat next to hers. Freya leaned forward, humming the last crappy pop song she'd heard at the party quietly as she rested one elbow on the wood. Absentmindedly, she played with her empty glass, feeling the condensation between her thumb and forefinger. She stopped fiddling when he spoke again though. "Oh really?" she said, blinking a couple of times in quick succession as she felt a little flutter in her chest. Stupid, she thought again. Freya was a little flustered, and it showed in the pink of her cheeks and the surprise in the tone of her voice. She laughed lightly, a little embarrassed at her own thoughts. The blonde wondered what he was thinking; why he'd said something like that. It felt like flirting, but it was Jayden, right? He'd never flirted with her before.

The girl averted her eyes, tucking a shortened blonde curl behind her ear only for it to slip right back out again. She couldn't help but smile to herself. "Yeah, I guess we're all grown up now," she said, unsure of the meaning behind his words but unwilling to push the conversation in any directed way. Was it the alcohol that had her heart rate a little faster than usual? Yeah, for sure, she decided. The drinks also had her smiling and blushing too. Yep.

Coffee. Hmm, he didn’t drink it but he could take her to get some. His eyes dropped to the watch on his wrist, they still had a few moments before the pots would start brewing. “The coffee brews on it’s own here…but not for like 15 minutes..” His gaze shifted to the very end of the bar, where a three pot brewing station sat, the only thing illuminated was the orange light indicating power. “It will sound when it’s brewed.” His eyes dropped back to the bar top. He had to look anywhere but her. It was better that his eyes didn’t trace the line of her lips. So much better if he wasn’t staring into her eyes to allow his own to betray him.

Betrayal. Wasn’t that where he was headed if he gave in? Kerr had never done him wrong but this, if Jay did this wouldn’t he betray the other boy? Wouldn’t he break some unwritten code he didn’t know about? This wasn’t supposed to happen. He was never supposed to see her again and yet he sat just a stools’ distance away. So close and yet so far but just enough to be safe. The surprise in her voice made him look over at her. Don’t! He reminded himself as he swallowed softly. The small light that they had framed her face perfectly, allowing his eyes to run over the frame of her glasses then down the line of her nose. He traced the outline of her lips and walked the curve of her jaw with his gaze. “..you are so beautiful…”

The words rested there, echoing in his mind. He blinked then cleared his throat before he was off the stool moving towards the window. What! Stupid! He mouthed the words as he moved to stand in front of the reflection of himself. An icy gaze drifted to her reflection and he sighed. “I shouldn’t have said that…” Kerrigan, would never forgive him. “..but really why not besides Kerr?” He frowned, he was walking down a dangerous road. He knew he should stop but he had been drinking and they were…alone. There was no one there to keep him in check and for the first time in a long time that recklessness he was famous for tried to surface.

"Oh, I mean, when we meet up. When we're sober." Freya laughed a light melodic laugh. She imagined meeting him somewhere in Diagon Alley in the middle of the day. A part of her felt like she wouldn't be so fluttery in the sun. Alcohol and dark, secluded spaces made for strange feelings and beating hearts, she decided distantly. It was all silly, of course. Nothing wrong with thinking someone was attractive, or entertaining thoughts in her own head. Freya might have been pretty tipsy, but she was also aware of the fact that Jay was Kerr's best friend. It had been over a year since they'd broken up, but still...

Freya glanced towards him, snapping her round, honey-coloured eyes up to meet his striking blue ones. They only met for a moment before he was standing, though, moving away from her. Freya watched the back of his head, puzzled as she ran over the last few moments to make sure she hadn't imagined it. Her elevated heart rate was palpable now. Was it the alcohol? The fact that he was saying these things? Or the fact that he shouldn't? Maybe some mix of all three, she thought. Freya was attracted to the scenario and the danger and his compliment had made her feel fluttery all over again, even though she wasn't about to act on it. The girl opened her mouth to say something, but shut it promptly when he spoke again.

I shouldn't have said that.

His words confirmed that she wasn't hallucinating. She blushed. He'd actually just told her he'd had a crush on her in school and then called her beautiful. Right? Right. Freya got to her feet, adjusting the hem of her singlet as she did so. Her cheeks were warm. She didn't have an answer for him. For her - especially after the Danny thing - Kerr was probably a good enough reason. If Jay wasn't Kerr's friend and she hadn't met him through Kerrigan, Freya would probably be having entirely different thoughts right now. Jayden was charming and kind of a badboy; just her type. "Jay..." Freya trailed off, a little flustered and lost for words. She played with the frayed seams of her denim shorts nervously, an apologetic sort of look on her face. "Thank you?" she said, her intonation making her thanks a question.

"But look, I... I dunno..." Freya smiled, embarrassed all over again. If he were someone else, she thought. "I mean, I've had a really nice time here," she started, blushing heavily, "but I think I should maybe - probably - try to see where my friends ended up...?"

This wasn’t supposed to be happening, he should have been making better choices. A year’s worth of training suddenly meant nothing in this empty space they now shared. He’d been foolish to ever think she would like him, even back then when he was a doe eyed adolescent. Coffee. He should have known then that he’d been friend zoned, permanently the safe guy to be around. He could hear her shuffling, almost hear the wheels in her brain turning. He’d gone and  been reckless and now he couldn’t take it back.

She said his name and his eyes closed, knowing that like the good girl that she was she would be gentle. He didn’t look at her, couldn’t look at her. “Yeah, no you’re welcome.” He answered quickly as she sounded unsure. Inked hands slid into the pockets of his checkered shorts as his weight rose up on the tip of his green converses. He looked at her through the glass and she was a clear as if she was standing in front of him. Apologetic and gentle. She spoke to him as if he were a scared child, almost as if he might explode. He was as unpredictable as time everyone knew this. His temper had been whispered about in the halls, but he’d changed.

Slowly he turned, a hand moving from his pocket to run over his hair. What was he supposed to say now? The tension was so awkward and uncomfortable he wished he could escape. This was why he didn’t date. Why he simply went through the girls as they came. Sharing feeling only left him confused and exposed. “Right…your friends.” He couldn’t feel anything for her. “Maybe this chance meeting was enough.” He lied. “Maybe coffee would be pushing it.”

She’d avoided his question. “I get it though, you know. So, don’t think I’m crushed beyond repair or anything.” He looked at the ceiling. He’d known his chances were slim, even back in school, it was why he had never said anything. But now, now he wished he had never spoken a word.

"Oh," she said, suddenly feeling quite awkward and more than a little confused. She felt a strange sense of disappointment at those words. Handsome or not, friend or not, she didn't like the feeling of rejection. Even though she hadn't exactly come here wanting or expecting anything else. "I... I'm sorry, I don't know what to say." Freya gave a bit of a smile, apology in her tone and actions. She tugged on a loose curl as she spoke. The alcohol wasn't helping anything, she thought. It made her head all muddled and now she didn't know what she should do or say. Freya knew she was probably too drunk to apparate anywhere right now and her purse was in her jacket pocket back at the house they'd been at before they came here, so she couldn't really catch the knight bus home either.

Freya watched him look at the ceiling and wondered if maybe he wasn't really being honest with her. The girl took a tentative step towards him, unsure if this was the part where she was supposed to laugh it off or tease or what. No reaction seemed like the right one, so at the risk of making a fool of herself, Freya just went for honesty. Inebriated honesty. "It's not that I don't..." She trailed off, leaving the rest of the sentence hanging there. Freya bit her lip for a moment before continuing, "...I just mean, this is nice," she gestured to the space they shared, mentally combing over what he'd said to make sure she wasn't going to make an idiot of herself for assuming things. "But, I mean... don't you think... I dunno, it might be weird?"

Freya was a bit of a coward, honestly. She wanted to push him a little, make himself absolutely clear before she said anything. And she wanted to bring up Kerr and the fact that Jay was his best friend. A long time had passed but it still felt like there were invisible lines that Freya was too loyal to cross. Even to ex boyfriends. But rather than say all of this she just said it might be weird and hope that he understood what she was saying.

“You don’t have to say anything.” He wanted her to say something, hell he would have taken her harshest words. He would have been okay with almost anything besides her lack of response. An icy blue gaze shifted around them as he took a moment to say what was hanging there like a spider from a web between them. “Coffee would be strange.” He shook his head lifting a long finger to run the tip over the numbers just under his left eye. “We would get there and things would be awkward from tonight and sit in silence the whole time.” He sighed this time as his gaze dropped to his brightly colored shoes. No matter what any day after this one would be fill with unintentional tension and awkwardness.

Her perfume invaded his senses as she drew closer and it caused him to look up just to see how close she was. Her words, the lyrics to his favorite song, rested between them for one long quiet moment. He had to think about what she had just said to him and be sure he hadn’t imagined it all. After all he never expected anything from Freya. He might have wanted to kiss her and be close but he expected nothing of the woman. She was right though things would be weird. Between them rested a piece of living breathing history. Jay couldn’t lose Kerr, he knew he would never be the same. The two had been close since before he could remember and have survived a lot together.

The man knew that this, this, would destroy them. “Maybe it would be, but honestly everything that’s new is.” He tried to reason with both her and himself. Attempted to talk himself into something he knew he shouldn’t but the drinking had made it hard for him to care as much as he should.  “Their weird and full of awkward tension and then..” He looked away from her with another sigh. “..their not. I know that I shouldn’t even feel the way I do. I know it’s wrong to want you the way that I do.” Even if he couldn’t understand what made it so wrong, he still understood that it was.

He moved to put some more space between them, his eyes locked on the bar. In that moment he thought of all he wanted to experience. He imagined the laughter and fumbling around in the darkness. He saw the morning after, the rising sun peeking through the window to make her seem more beautiful. He thought of the hushed whispers in public as they hid in corners for just a moment to be close. His eyes closed and he frowned, scolding himself and his imagination. “I won’t take it back, Freya. I won’t pretend not to like you or have liked you.” His head shook and he looked at her. “Nothing may ever happen between us and that would be okay.” He lied. “But at the very least you knew how I felt.” Right?

I know that I shouldn’t even feel the way I do. I know it’s wrong to want you the way that I do.

Dramatic words, Freya thought, watching him curiously. The second part made her drunk self feel flattered and fluttery but at the same time, she sort of wished he hadn't said them. His eyes met hers and she noted that his blue eyes were sorta pretty. It kind of undermined his whole tough guy image, Freya thought distantly. Made it too easy to imagine a sweeter guy under all those layers than the one she remembered from school. Jayden was always funny, always a bad boy, but she didn't quite remember him being quite so honest or... dramatic. Of course, she'd paid a lot more attention to their mutual friend than she had to him. For over a year, Freya's eyes had always been drawn to Kerr whenever he'd walked into a room. He'd made her all fluttery even after they'd broken up. She wondered if the Kerr in her head matched the one in real life. If Jayden was sweet or honest or dramatic usually, Freya probably wouldn't have noticed. A part of her wanted to give an unsure sort of laugh, not really sure how serious he was being when he was saying all of this stuff. Just in case he was being super serious though, she didn't. She'd rather make a fool of herself for taking him seriously rather than make a fool of him just in case he was.

Freya was honestly a little stunned. They'd been having a nice time only moments ago and then these odd confessions had come seemingly out of nowhere. Jay moved past her, to the bar and she quickly tried to think of something to say. "Okay," she said finally. "I'm sorry, I don't know how to respond to that." Freya gave an apologetic smile. "I just... Kerr, you know? You're still his best friend, right?" Freya gave a gentle shrug, not wanting to say or do the wrong thing. It would be weird, she thought. After another moment of awkward silence, Freya spoke again. "Listen, Jay... I'm pretty drunk," Freya gave an apologetic smile, shaking her head. "D'you think... Maybe you could take me back to that house? My wallet is in my jacket pocket and I kind of... left that in the lounge room." Wallet, money, check if the friends were okay, then home.

Things were already awkward. He had gone and said things to make them worse. Jay lifted a hand to run over his head as he gave a sigh. “Can we just pretend I didn’t say any of it.” He wanted this night to end so that he could start fresh again. He couldn’t be sure when he because the guy that would think about such things. He used to not care about feelings and egos. He wasn’t sure he cared now, it was more of how he remembered he’d felt. What did he feel now? He was drunk so he couldn’t trust what he felt.

“Yeah, he’s still mine.” Kerr had always been the right hand in all of Jay’s dealings. Where the taller boy went he made sure his cousin was with him. They had drifted apart but he had no doubt that they would fall back into the familiar pattern. He looked at her before he moved back behind the bar. “Sure…let me just cut the…” Lights around the room dimmed enough not to be too bright before he moved over to awkwardly stand in front of her. “Um..” He reached out unsure of where to hold her, before resting a hand on her shoulder before the floor vanished and was replaced by damp concrete.

Blue eyes drifted back towards the house and the kids who’d been inside now lay in the gass, hands on the back of their heads. Jay only assumed they were being arrested. He himself had been in cuffs far too many times to count on both hands. “So…we have to sneak pass the cops…any ideas?” Because he sure hadn’t come up with one just yet.

"Okay," Freya agreed breathlessly.

Freya felt her heart quicken as the lights were dimmed. He moved over to her and for just a flicker of a moment, she wondered what his hands felt like. Freya quickly stamped the thought out, however. In the weirdest turn of events, she supposed she'd rejected him, so now things were just sort of awkward and it was basically her fault. She wanted to tell him that if things were different she'd definitely go for it. He was hot and had that badboy thing but with a hint of sweetness under it all and she liked all of those things. He was nice, too, at least to her. She wanted to tell him she'd never really thought about him as a possibility in that way before tonight but that if he was just another friend or a guy she'd just met she'd let him flirt with her and she'd probably blush and enjoy it. Freya kept her mouth shut, however. She figured it probably wouldn't help.

He put his hand on her shoulder and she felt a little guilty about the fact that it felt sort of good. Freya closed her eyes as they apparated, disliking the sensation of being folded inside out immensely. She didn't usually feel nauseous when she apparated but at the moment, all full of liquor like she was, she had to admit the trip made her feel a little sick. Stumbling slightly as she came out on the other side, Freya took a moment to regain her balance as she adjusted the hem of her shorts and the bottom of her top. Now that they were outside again, it was getting kind of cold. Freya shivered in the slight breeze, honey-brown eyes squinting as she looked for a familiar face in the group of teenagers outside the house.

"I'm guessing we can't just go and ask them?" she asked, scratching her head a little. If she was sober, Freya wouldn't have taken a risk like this one. Right now, however, she was far from sober and the idea of sneaking past law enforcement sounded kind of exciting and silly rather than stupid and dangerous. "C'mon." Freya said, forgetting the weirdness of earlier for a quick moment as she shot him a sunny smile, beckoning for him to follow her. The blonde skipped around to the back fence of the house. She had to go up on her tippy-toes to see over it, but when she looked there wasn't anyone around. "I'm gonna climb it," she said, her impulsive Gryffindor nature showing in both her beating heart and smile.

"You don't have to come if you don't want to." But Freya sort of thought he would. He was impulsive too, she thought. The girl shot him a fast smile, unwilling to let the awkwardness from before affect them now. Rather than linger, looking into his pale blue eyes (it seemed like it would be too easy to do), Freya turned back to the fence and hoisted herself up and over it. She was appreciating all of the exercise she'd been doing lately. The move might have been difficult for her a year ago, but not so much now. With relative elegance, especially considering her inebriation, Freya fell to the other side and landed deftly on her feet.

He looked over at her as they both considered their next move. Avoiding the cops was the number one bullet point for the former Gryfinndor. Pale blue eyes watches as she fussed over her clothing and he suddenly felt the chill in the air. It wasn’t freezing but a light jacket would do wonders. His eyes shifted to the kids sprawled in the grass and he shook his head. Run. You always run when the cops show up, it was a cardinal rule. “Huh?” He shifted, to follow her, walking casually as he did so. The boy didn’t have a care in the world.

Oh man, they would be climbing. The fence wasn’t too high but he hated to exert too much energy. “No, I’m game. I’ve done this a million times before.” He snuck into countless houses to spend time with countless girls. This was a bit different, considering the police. It was strange how out in the fresh air the tension had seemingly slipped away. “Be car-“ His words faded into the breeze as she climbed up on the fence. For the first time that nice his eyes trailed more of her body then he knew he should, but looking away wasn’t an option. She was in front of him on moment and then on the other side the next. He was tall so getting over the fence took less effort from him.

“Let me be the first to say how this could go horribly wrong.” He whispered, grabbing her wrist to keep her still as someone walked pass the gate, his index rose to point to the open back window. Once it seemed clear he moved over to the window, his year of training showing itself. He moved with the shadows, keeping himself well hidden. He hoisted himself into the window without problem before he turned to give her his hand. “I’m going to be super pissed if we get arrested…” His record was a mile long, he knew they would keep him. “Wait…be careful…” He shifted to help her more if needed before he looked around the empty space. There were cups scattered about the floor.

The music was soft but it was still playing. It was hard to tell they had partied here just barely an hour agp. “Where did you say you left it?” He wanted to hurry up and leave before they couldn’t.

Now that they were out of that bar and in the cold night air, Freya felt her alcoholic buzz shift from making her feel confused to making her feel kind of excited again. A smile crept onto her face without her even really noticing. Jayden grabbed her wrist a moment before she sprinted across the lawn, saving her from an adult figure who was making their way by the gate. She shot him a mischievous grin, trying to be thankful but just looking sort of pleased instead. "We'll be fine," Freya reasurred him under her breath. The blonde was probably a little too drunk to be making decisions like this, though. She was fit, but perhaps not the most elegant girl. She wasn't all that good at being sneaky.

Freya moved forward as he did, following him through the window with relative ease. She took his hand and let him help her. A flicker of concern raced through her features at his words. The kitchen was dark and there were plastic cups scattered across the sticky floor. Freya touched his arm gently. "Hey," she said softly, "If it looks like we're gonna get caught, make sure you get out of here." She was silly to think he'd listen to her, but she was being genuine when she spoke her dramatic words. The girl didn't want him to get in trouble, especially since he seemed reluctant and not at all stupidly smiley about it all like she felt. She'd prefer if he got out and left her behind.

The girl's honey-coloured eyes searched the kitchen, but then she remembered. "I think it's the living room," she said, "dance floor." The blonde took hesitant steps, heading towards where she thought she left her jacket. She took Jay's hand to lead him quietly through the house. "There it is!" she muttered quietly, relief evident in her tone as she shot him a smile over her shoulder.

He gave her a look out of the corner of his eye before shaking his head. “What?” Did she really think he would leave her? If anything he would be sure she got away. He would spend a few nights and jails but he had already done that so many times before. Freya was innocent, jail would taint her. It would chip away at that gentleness that made her more beautiful. “You know I would never leave you, right?” And he wouldn’t. It wasn’t the type of man he ever wanted to be. He may have enjoyed debauchery and chaos but he was giant teddy bear. He was all tattoos and bad attitude but underneath that rough exterior rested a heart of gold. “I really can’t believe you just said that.”

He laughed softly shaking his head. He appreciated that she would say such a thing but he wanted her to know it wasn’t necessary. Pale blue eyes drifted towards the living room with a quick nod of his head. He moved to follow her, his gaze dropping to their hands as she led the way. Her palm was soft as he’d imaged, softer. The warmth from her hand seemed to heat his and he noticed the little things.  The soft tan to her arm illuminated by the street lights peeking through the window. The way her hair fell just right over her shoulder as she leaned to look in the room. Then he heard her voice and it took him just a moment to process what had been said before he smiled back at her.

“Stay right here, I’ll get it.” He let her hand go and the cool air made its absence known as he slipped by her. He leaned to look out of the window from where he was, making sure no one was walking by. His long legs carried him across the space quickly. Jay grabbed the jacket, giving it a small shake. “Were your keys with your jacket…” He whispered as best he could back to her. The boy shifted to look around the area, but he couldn’t see that well. “Look over there, maybe they got kicked around in the scramble…”

Freya couldn't help but smile a little at his words. She'd known as she'd said it that it was silly. Like many Gryffindor boys she knew, Jayden had a bit of that hero complex thing. She seriously doubted he'd get out of here without her. Still, as a Gryffindor herself she had a bit of that responsibility thing too. The blonde didn't want him to get caught by anyone or get in trouble. Especially when he'd sounded so serious when he'd talked about potentially being caught a moment ago. He laughed softly and she did too, imagining how ridiculous he thought the idea of abandoning her was. Freya had to admit it made her a little fluttery again, but she tried not to let that show. She'd never been particularly good at hiding her emotions, so she didn't look at him just in case he could read it on her face.

"Okay," Freya breathed, speaking softly even though the music was still playing. The girl waited close to the wall in the dark as her friend moved forward by himself. She watched him pick up her denim jacket and give it a little shake. The blonde looked over her shoulder to triple check that it was empty behind her as she bounced a little on her toes, feeling impatient. She snapped her head back to him as he spoke, blinking twice before her honey-coloured eyes flicked to the floor, looking for her keys between plastic cups and glass bottles. After a second, Freya went over to him, taking the jacket from him and biting her lip as she searched through it's pockets. Thankfully, her wallet was still in there.

The blonde pulled her wand from her pocket and pointed it at the general vicinity of the rest of the room. "Accio keys," she said quietly. The keys flew to her and she caught them easily with her chaser reflexes, even with the alcohol in her veins. Freya grinned at her friend, her heart racing as she took his hand. "Outside?" she asked, pocketing her keys. Then Freya apparated them out and back onto the street, a few houses down from the one the party had been at. "Easy as cake," she said breathlessly, still a little exhilarated from the whole experience.
