Fanny was growing restless in America. Not having her MACUSA position was starting to crawl under her skin, and the thought of soon replacing her beautiful Manhattan office with Ilvermorny’s homey spaces made her want to drink enough fire whiskey to sleep through the next century. She was also growing peeved that her assistant kept giving her Alchemy texts all written by the cuckoos abroad. Where were all the Made in America books?! Did all the Alchemists in the States forget how to write?
It was getting to point where Fanny even had to leave her bed and shower and go out! In daylight! And mostly sober!
She didn’t want to admit it, even to herself, but before she became a politician, she was proud of her work as an Alchemist. Perhaps if her cards had landed differently, or a different path had been laid in front of her, she could have been someone else. Perhaps those cards and paths were a little late in coming? Could this new phase in her life be something she may have wanted?
She gagged at her moment of sentimentality, and immediately Apparated to a magical bookstore in the city. Her assistants weren’t well-versed in this craft, so they were pretty much useless helping her find a textbook for the brats she’d soon have to put up with. And that annoying Agilbert had been poking her about finalising her book list. So she headed over the the Arcane Arts section, and summoned any book related on Alchemy that she found on the shelves.
But the Alchemy section was of poor quality. Outdated or just a bore, or full of other weird hippy magic from the weird part of the Americas. Becoming more and more agitated as she rejected book after book, Fanny huffed and left, appparating to MACUSA’s Floo Network. She finally yielded to one of her assistant’s suggestions, to find a text from one of the older, established shops abroad.
‘Diagon Alley!’ Fanny cried out, and in a flash of green fire she was gone. She found herself stepping out to old cobblestone, the early morning in the States replaced by the hazy afternoon sun in London. She weaved her way through a crowd, making a face at the fashion choices of British wizards and witches. Were they freaking serious? What are thooooooseee??!!
Fanny pushed herself forward, trying to figure out why the crowd was becoming more packed. She made her way to the front, seeing a sign plastered on a shop window.
‘WIZARDS FOR EQUALITY! SUPPORT THE NEW INTERNATIONAL STATUTE OF BLOOD STATUS EQUALITY!’
Fanny smirked at poster, knowing her MACUSA was to play a part in this upcoming summit. But a jet of red light zoomed past her, causing her to shriek. The original poster was now covered by another, this time proclaiming: DOWN WITH MUDBLOODS. DOWN WITH BLOOD TRAITORS!
Immediately there were angry yells from all sorts of offended people. Fanny found herself shoved to the side, causing her to bump into a girl.
‘Oh! You okay? You didn’t scuff my shoes did you? They're a limited edition y'know.’
