Christmad break. It's a time to take a break from school and all of one's worries, and enjoy the holiday season with friends and family. There's a kind of magic in the air. Everyone calls it the Spirit of Christmas.
For Valda, things were very different for her this time of year compared to the experiences everyone also was able to enjoy. The Spirit of Christmas was there, but it was small and only lasted a fleeting moment when she was with her friend, Gio. She had planned to celebrate the holiday with her mother, dear friend, Sasha, and perhaps even her older brother. Plans dont always go the way they're expected to though.
Valda had to leave school early and go home to a now empty house. Her mother was gone and Dimitry, her only other living family, her brother, only came for the funeral. Before and after that, she hadn't heard or seen him.
@Aleksandr Kozlov took Valda under his wing once again, letting her live with him and his growing family. She was grateful for his gestures and kindness, but she couldn't stay. It was getting claustrophobic and she needed to run.
She needed to get away from home. Sasha only lived 20 min from her. He was too close to feel like she had gotten space from her roots. In desperation, she called her friend Gio who was more than willing to let her stay with him for the remainder of break.
They had their own issues arise ranging from fighting of wolves to their first awkward kiss, including helping Gio's mother. Nothing they went through was separating them. It seemed to only bring them closer. She felt at peace (most of the time) here in Scoarta.
Christmas break was coming to an end. The redheaded orphan was sad to have to say goodbye to this small village. Despite it's lethal dangers that crept along it's boundaries, she was starting to call it home.
Gio was off on a hunting trip and was to be getting home soon. Valda had gone on a walk through town to enjoy the afternoon winter air. It was cold, but the lack of wind made it enjoyable. Everything was so beautiful coated in the white powder. She allowed her hand to drag along the top of a fence she oast, watching the snow as it fell.
She was enjoying herself, but wasn't quite ready to let her guard down just yet. After the wolves attcked her and Gio not once, but twice, and she had heard the strange noises of the night, Valda was trying to take extra caution od her surroundings. Sometimes, she allowed her saddness to intervene and she found herself thinking about her mother's death rather than watching where she stepped.
Now, she was stuck in thought about her studies and if they would have helped her mother if she had only lived a little longer to make it through Christmas break. Her hand withdrew from the cold snow-covered fence railing to be stuffed into her pockets. She was forgetting to be careful and keep an eye out for any danger making her the prime target of any who wanted to sneak up om her. Gio would be home soon, and she couldn't wait. He distracted her from her worries and helped her to enjoy the little things in life. The longer she found herself alone, the sadder she grew. If only she could do something else besides pace the roads to try and busy herself.
