[Solved] Just a few questions
« on: March 01, 2018, 01:28:08 AM »
I'm just starting to create my character, and I have a few questions.

1.) Is there a job directory for MH so we can see if another family has the same job field as another family?  I'm planning on making my character come from a family of herbologists and a relatively wealthy family at that.  I don't want to do that if there is already another family who does that.

2.)  About how long has it take for an EFB application to get approved?  I plan on submitting that first and waiting until it is approved to start on the history of my character.

3.) What other jobs are available for people with an interest in herbology?  I have potions, perfume making, and beauty products.  Would these even be used in the wizarding world?

4.) Is it okay to have mixed nationality characters, for example a half French, half British character?

Sorry for all the questions, and thanks in advance!

Hey Daniella!

I'm Lowri, hopefully I can help with some of your questions~

I'm not sure where the job directory is but, as you can see, Herbologist is a job in and of itself. I think those other ones you listed would work fine too! A perfumer would be pretty cool!

I think there are a couple of families that specialise in herbology, but there's only two actual herbologist characters on the board, so if you wanted to make one then you wouldn't be joining an overpopulated category! (and luciana would love to see more herbologists!)

and yes, having a mixed nationality character is fine -- i believe the rule however is that if your character was born in Britain they'd go to Hogwarts, or France they would go to Beauxbatons, but parents can definitely be from two different countries/regions.

I hope that helps!

Hi again Daniella!

Lowri’s covered most of it but I’ll chime in as well (especially with regard to the EFB/Sorting process).

1. We no longer have a job directory because it ended up being unnecessary - at one point we had a ton of wandmakers hahah but to my knowledge there’s room to expand in Herbology! Though if you want them to be wealthy, you’ll need to apply for a rich status for the family (one for maternal line and one for paternal line if each is independently wealthy - if just one side of the family is wealthy then you only need one) before you write and submit your EFB - the application is in the same place as the rest of the EFB information. ^^

2. It varies on the availability of admins a little bit - since you’ll need to submit a rich application first (which undergoes a separate approval process in which most of the admin team reviews it), that can take closer to a week or so (instead of the usual couple of days for a character sheet). Once the rich aapplication has been reviewed and approved, you’ll then write and submit your EFB (again one if just one side of the family is wealthy, two if both are) as well as submit your character sheet. After the rich application, the EFB tends to be approved a bit faster since there’s not much new information (though it is still reviewed by a group of the admin team). The character sheet is only reviewed by one admin member so that tends to be quickest.

3. Definitely! Think of the “liberal amounts of Sleekeazy’s hair potion” that Hermione uses for the Yule Ball. ???? Honestly we love creativity here. so you can probably come up with whatever you’d like (within reason) and with a solid and realistic explanation it’s likely to be approved.

4. Mixed nationality is generally fine as long as you can provide a solid backstory for why that is/ how they met. As Lowri said, if they were born in France they would have attended BB, born in the UK would go to Hogwarts, etc.

Feel free to drop me a line if you’d like more clarification on any of that! Looking forward to seeing what you come up with!!
(And you’re always welcome to connect with any of my characters!)
Also I Sorted your OOC account for you! ^^
