[teacher's office: detention] survival of the interest - dema

"Fine! I'll go! I promise, I'll be in detention tomorrow after classes." If he didn't go, he put the Drakonya Krov's quidditch team at risk of being down their seeker. Of course he would go if it meant he could avoid Linnea's wrath.

He held the detention note in his hand as walked into @Aldemar Delchev's office. A coy smirk was plastered on his face when he made eye contact with his teacher. He waved the golden ticket above his head before putting it into Dlechev's outstretched hand. Aldemar was one of his favorite professors here at the school. Kalevi didn't mind if he had to spend detention with him. The punishments typically weren't too unbearable. If the teacher had run out of things for him to do while serving detention, there was always the chance that he'd be left to do his homework or would get a stern talk about being responsible before being sent away early.

"Don't think you can get rid of me that easily! I'm here for detention. What'll I be doing today?"

Upon coming back to school, Delchev had been wary of Kalevi. The Krov had wondered if he'd heard what he'd done to his daughter. The first few weeks of school coaxed Kalevi to believe that he didn't know all of the details as to what happened between Venera and him. All he needed to know was that the two had broken up. It had been rather ugly the way it happened, he'd admit, but it was for the best. Kalevi couldn't treat her the way she wanted. He had been awful to her. She deserved someone better. Someone who could feel the same way as she did about them. Kalevi was not that guy.

While Aldemar did not know exactly what had happened between his daughter and this wizard, he knew enough to know that he did not want to know more. Enough to make him feel angry and protective; she had cried so much when they ended things and enough that he was going to teach the boy a lesson or two about how to treat witches. This detention had been well earned (mostly, maybe Dema had been a little extra strict on Kalevi, but he wasn't ashamed of it!), and he was going to make sure Kalevi walked away with a new set of knowledge.

"Today, we will be learning about the female reproductive system," Aldemar said calmly, removing his loafers from his desk and pulling on his cardigan as he stood up. Setting the little booklets he had gathered from the local Youth Center in Moscow over the weekend on Kalevi's desk, he ushered for the boy to take a seat. Of course, this wasn't what they were actually going to learn about, but that didn't stop Aldemar from trying to make the wizard as uncomfortable as possible. In reality, Durmstrang needed a better Health program, but that was a fight for another day (and one Dema fought often).

Aldemar waited for Kalevi to take his seat before he leaned against the front of his desk. He had picked the first desk, front row center, for the detention taker, of course. As much as he wanted to tear into the boy for breaking his baby girl's heart, he knew Venera probably would not appreciate it. And the last thing he wanted was to hurt her more, it was the wizard who should have been crying, and Dema knew sooner or later Kalevi would realize what a mistake it was to let go of his amazing daughter. After a few painful moments of letting Kalevi look at the quite graphic pictures on the front of the pamphlets Aldemar fought back his smile and reached for them.

"Oh, my mistake, that is for another of your criminal friends," He said sharply, pulling the pamphlets back as he stared at Kalevi with judgment. "You may choose between writing lines and restocking the survival bunkers."

The young man had to bite the inside of his cheek to keep from smiling when his professor informed him of what their focus would be. The female reproductive system???? Was he serious? Clearly, Aldemar was not aware of the fact that Kalevi was very familiar with the female reproductive system. That, or this was his professor's way of trying to tell him something.

He was ushered to a seat quickly. The chair squeaked loudly on the floor as he pulled it back from the desk. It certainly wouldn't have been the seat he'd have chosen, but he would go along with it. Then he was given a very graphic-very detailed pamphlet. Kalevi covered his mouth to hide the growing smirk as he admired the thin booklet. Instead, he focused on making his face appear as if he'd never seen anything like the pictures. It was all new to him. That's what Aldemar was supposed to think, right? This whole scenario was truly entertaining. His professor was aware that he was male. Seventeen years of age.... Didn't he?

He allowed Aldemar to take them back without protest. "Does the female reproductive system really look like...like...like that?" He could see right through Aldemar's plan and found this would be a fun game of chicken. Except the goal was to see who can make the other uncomfortable first. After being in his class for years, Kalevi was almost certain he would win.

"Why did you give me those if they were for someone else," he inquired. Now he was just confused. He was convinced that Aldemar Delchev planned to have detention be a lesson on the anatomy of the opposite sex. "I don't understand. Are we talking about.... you know... those... Or am I doing a silly task to get it into my head not to be late to class? Honestly, I'll go and restock the survival bunkers," Merlin knew those could use some tidying up and organization. "I'm lost on how detention is starting, though."

Aldemar waited for Kalevi to comment before he continued, figuring the boy would groan or otherwise display his lack of interest in the Sexual Education pamphlets. Still, instead, he was impressed by the reaction. "It does indeed; there is quite a bit going on actually," Aldemar was no stranger to talking about reproductive systems and every other wonderful topic from the health classes he held in the old village. While Durmstrang might not have had a super progressive young adult health program, the community center in Belyusha Guba had been a bit ahead of its time.

"Well, I suppose that is up to you," As much as Aldemar just wanted to outright punish Kalevi for things he didn't know, the professor knew that wasn't going to help. The teenager wouldn't learn anything except how to be better at not getting into trouble and not being phased by punishment. Dema preferred a different, more useful approach. "Given three choices, you decide, but you can't change your mind again later."

"Health class, writing lines, and survival bunker." Regardless of what the boy chose, Aldemar would be sure to insert as many annoying teachable moments as possible.
