Her sisters had warned her that coming to New York to visit a guy she'd only met once in person was a ludicrous idea. Perhaps they were right. While she particularly didn't care to hear the biting words of her sister, Iris, she didn't bother to heed the words of caution her other sisters professed to her. They didn't know him like she did. They hadn't been the ones to exchange letters for years since they were in school. Her sisters wouldn't understand. Azalea didn't dare mention that he was a halfblood. There was no telling how they would react to it all.

So far, their time together had been grand. He'd met her in Time Square, just as he said he would. She had been careful to not come too early, but rather fashionably late. Only five after the hour. Not long enough to keep him rudely waiting, but just the right amount of time for her to be able to spot him first. He'd been standing under the sign and looking up and down the road for someone he was only vaguely familiar with their appearance. Christian had taken her back to his apartment and served her a filling and delicious homemade Italian meal. Shortly after they'd eaten and she'd had some time to freshen up, they went out into the night. Broadway had been magical. She'd never seen anything like it. Christian had to explain how magic wasn't used and Azalea was astonished that muggles could produce such a piece of captivating art. To top it off, he showed her the best pizza place in New York. It was the only pizza place she'd been to here, but he was right. It was goooooood.

Her fingers ran through her hair as she reminisced on the night's activities. The cool water felt amazing against her skin. A warm smile caressed her face as she thought of how much fun the two of them had tonight. She was grateful she made the decision to come. Christian was a great guy. A tune from the show they had watched softly filled the air as she hummed quietly while she turned the water off and stepped out of the shower and into a warm towel.

Azalea was dressed and ready for bed promptly in her dark sapphire blue silk pajamas. She'd spent more time on her skincare routine than the actual shower by the time she was done. The witch stored her belongings away into her bag before she made her way into his living room. Her slender fingers massaged her moisturizer into her skin as she took her seat tucked into the corner.

"Tonight was so much fun! I'm so excited, I fear I won't be able to sleep the rest of the night." It wouldn't be long before the sun began to rise. "Are you tired yet? If not, perhaps you can show me those Noir films you were telling me about earlier?"

What took girls so long in the bathroom? Actually, Christian could relate. He was known for long showers and intricate routines as well. He was a methodical person, keen on routine and normalcy. However, he was also keen on appearances. He took a long time in the bathroom, too, and would try to cut it short later on in the night, either when Azalea had taken to bed, or just before. He had offered her the bed, he would sleep on the couch, and wasn’t necessarily looking forward to it, but he had certainly slept on worse. He remembered nights sleeping on a thin cot, nights on the floor. He had grown accustomed to his new level of comfort, but at the same time he remembered his roots by all means. As Azalea emerged, he smiled at her—finding her just as beautiful in her bedtime state as she had been all dressed up. He wasn’t used to this, the butterflies. He wasn’t used to any of it.

Christian was a late bloomer in the love department. He had met Azalea when he was seventeen, but had not been interested in her right away. He had not ever been interested in anyone “right away.” It had taken years of letters, of talking almost daily, for him to feel something brewing for her. Of course, she had always been beautiful. He had never denied that. Still, beauty wasn’t all he wanted in a woman. He wanted substance, and the two had much in common. They came from monumentally different backgrounds, but were interested in being and auror for the same reason—they believed in justice and doing the right thing. So many of his coworkers looked for power, or were corrupt. He wanted to believe there were still “good cops” left in this world. He wasn’t by the book, necessarily—there was no surviving for anyone who was—but he had noble intentions for his work.

They also liked many of the same things. Musical Theater being one of them. He had taken her to a no-maj Broadway show that evening, and it had been a big hit. She had loved it, and so had he. He loved puzzles and games, like her. He was passionate about “light” politics, much the same as her. He had never experienced anything like what she went through during the war, but there was still a lot of animosity between no-maj and wizards in America. Blood status was less of an issue, but was still bubbling beneath the surface for many. He knew she was uniquely affected by the war, and he, too, had lost someone of great importance to him, his mother. They could bond over their loss, and grow stronger together. Fifteen years later, and Christian still didn’t think he could ever fully heal from his mother’s death. He still grew angry, and focused that anger into his job. He wondered if he might have been in no-maj police, had he not been born magical. He wondered the same about Azaelea, and thought maybe he’d ask her one day. He had a hard time imagining being non-magical.

“We can sing karaoke from the show late into the night.” He assured. He opened a bottle of vodka and poured himself a drink over ice. “Care for a drink? I’ve got cranberry, orange, or seltzer if you want a mixer.” For good measure, he put a little seltzer in his own cup. He tasted the drink and decided he had been a little heavy-handed with the vodka, but he didn’t mind terribly. “I’ve got wine, too, if you prefer, but haven’t opened any bottles.” Vodka had less calories, and he was always watching his calories and macros—important to stay in his best shape. Especially since he had indulged in a rare slice of pizza earlier on in the evening.

Christian was tall, six-foot-two-inches, and around 200 pounds, heavy for his height. Still, it was almost all muscle. He was thick, broad, and in impeccable shape. He tended towards and endomorphic body type, and might have been chubby if he was not so determined to be in top physical form. He pushed his glasses up his nose as he came back to the couch, careful to sit far enough away from her that their thighs wouldn’t touch. He wasn’t sure how to continue this. Obviously, she made his stomach ache. He thought that seemed bad, but had heard it was normally a good sign. He had no experience with women, though, and it made him freeze up when he thought of trying to even touch her hand.

“Oh, you’re interested in that?” He asked with a smile. He looked around for his copy of Double Indemnity, and went to grab it. “Sure, we could watch a film if you’d like. Have you ever seen a film before?” He wondered. He did not spend much time with his television set, and had often considered letting it go—but the room would look so empty without it, and he knew Cole would enjoy watching as well. Though, probably not the classic films that Christian preferred.

She watched him carefully as he poured himself a drink. Her arm on the back of the couch made it easier for her to rest her cheek against her hand and admire him as he moved about. She had noted he was tall. Her heels had brought her right up to his height. Not many men who had tried to win her over with compliments, flowers, free drinks, and subtle touches on her arms, back, and legs matched the requirement she had for any man she dated. She only had two standards. Firstly, they were to be the same height if not taller when she wore heels. Azalea loved her men like she loved her heels- tall. They were also to respect her and be honest. The moment any of these two were not met, she pursued nothing more with the man. Christian had done well so far.

"Oh, that sounds lovely," she cooed. "No need to open a new bottle of win. I can handle vodka." Her feet retracted to her body to provide more room when he sat on the opposite end of the cushions. The way he pushed his glasses up onto his nose was charming. She noticed the small habits of his that not many picked up on easily. Azalea had also noticed how careful he's been to not touch her in a way that could upset her. That was appreciated. She was trying to determine if he was this way naturally or if it was because of the incident that brought them together in their 7th year at summer camp.

"Vodka, whiskey, rum," she straightened her form and gently took his drink from his hand. "They're all good-" she raised it to her lips taking only a couple sips. "Merlin, yours does have a kick to it," she smirked and placed it back into his hand. "I may look fragile, but I'm not so delicate. I can be a lady, but I can also hold my drinks down." Strong like her drinks was another way she liked her men. Strong personalities, strong emotions, strong physique. "Except add an even blend of cherry and orange to mine? It really does blend in well." Her gaze followed him and she couldn't help but notice how flattering his form. He wasn't like most men who were skinnier and not as muscular. His style of clothing complimented his form well.

There was a nearby blanket she spotted which she promptly grabbed and draped over herself. Her hand quickly jumped in front of her mouth as she yawned softly. Sleep was forming in the corners of her eyes in tesry drops. She wiped at her eyes and pinched her cheeks to stay awake. Maybe she was a little more tired than she had originally thought. "This would be my first film," she informed him. Azalea didn't dabble with muggle inventions. Not until today. If Broadway could make magic without wands, spells, and charms, then she was curious to see what the movies could do. "I'm trusting your judgement so be sure to pick something worthwhile. I don't want to be disappointed."

Christian made certain to fix her drink before putting the movie in and sitting back down beside her. He smiled at her as he gave her the drink, a little less strong than his own. He settled in as the film started, and didn’t say much other than explaining certain muggle things to her until the film ended. By then, he was getting tired as well, but wanted to stay up and make their time together last a little bit longer. He could tell she was sleepy, though, and the alcohol had likely not helped that. “How’d you like it?” He asked. “Interesting, right?” He grinned, eager for her answer.

“I can put you to bed if you’d like. My bed’s made with fresh sheets for you, and I’ll stay on the couch of course.” He offered. He needed the bathroom for a shower before bed, but he didn’t mind bringing clothes in and sneaking out when she was already sleeping. “I’ll just take a quick shower and then be out of your hair, if you’d like. We can look at some more things tomorrow. How much longer are you here?” He wondered, forgetting.

Christian was a dear. He was quite the gentleman. Well-mannered, handsome, charismatic, passionate. She loved all of it about him.

Azalea thanked him as she took her drink. It tasted great! Her tastebuds were left tingling. Had he ever been a bartender? Azalea wondered. He was quite skilled with hia craftsmanship getting her request exactly how she asked. She could have done with a lighter amount of orange but she wasn't complaining. The drink had been finished a little quicker than she had anticipated and asked for a second. Christian hadn't filled her cup as much as it was before but she didn't complain.

The movie had been awesome. To hear the sound with the moving pictures - she was baffled at how such things could happen. Azalea asked so many questions that she wasn't following the story completely but instead caught bits and pieces as her mind swirled with new information about muggles. There was so much she didn't know about them. It was astounding and almost luring for her to explore the muggle world.

The movie ended and it seemed their night was coming to an end. Her head lulled back with sleep while her cheeks were red with drunkeness. She had too much too quickly. "That's it," she whined. "I want mooore. Why did it have to end?" Christian was sitting close enough to her now that she leaned forward to rest her heavy head on his shoulder. There was an attempt to do so math for how long she was staying but she only replied with a shrug as her hands rested on his toned forearm. "You're giving me your bed? Nonono you don't sleep on the couch. Sleep with me! It's much more comfortable. Pleeease?"

Christian blushed at the very thought of sharing a bed with his female friend. This was a new concept to Christian. He had never been that physically close with a girl before. Yes, on very rare occasions he had shared a bed with Cole—Cole tended to prefer the couch to being cuddled up with Christian—but never with a woman. He had never even been kissed, let alone sleep next to someone. He supposed this wasn’t necessarily a romantic request, necessarily, but there was definitely a spark between them and this fel t closer than he really expected to be to her. Her head was on his shoulder already and his heart was beating quickly in his chest.

“Are you sure?” He asked, carefully. “I would hate to be inappropriate.” He admitted. “I’m fine on the couch, if you mind. But, if you insist…” He managed, ears still a little red.

Between the years, he had developed feelings for her that certainly surpassed friendship. He very much cared for her, thought she was gorgeous, and thought she was kind and wonderful. She had a firey spirit he loved, but shared passions with him. She was perfect, really, but he was just a loser. He knew she was from a prominent pureblood family, and as far as Christian knew he was a magbob and from no family to speak of. He worried he wasn’t good enough for her to consider. Of course, where was she now?

“I need to take a quick shower, actually. Do you want to go first?” He asked. “I might be a little bit in there. I take longer showers.” He admitted.

"The couch isn't nearly as comfy as the bed," she reminded him. Her hands firmly squeezed his arm as if to encourage him to come with her, though she made no attempt to rise from her seat. "You'll hurt your back. Trust me, I know." Her words were drawn out and slurred together with her eyes only opened halfway in her drunker stupor.

She laughed and shook her head. "I've already showered, silly. You can shower though," she poked his chest playfully. She giggled and moved to quickly, which made the room spin. "I would join you if I could," though she hadn't been invited, "but I think I'm too drunk to standup. You should just leave me here to struggle while you get cleaned."

She was drunker than he thought she might be, which quelled all thoughts he might have had about touching her this evening. He would never touch her in a more-than-friendly manner if she was intoxicated. He knew better than that, didn’t want to take advantage. He had hoped to get the guts to kiss her, but instead he worried about making sure she could get to bed easily.

“Okay, okay. Here. Grab on, and I’ll lead you to the bed.” He smiled. “Up, up, there you go….” He smiled, as she stood, holding onto him wobbly. He led the way to the bed and set her down. He tucked her in a little bit, then smiled and went to take care of his own shower. He was in there for awhile, as he usually was, but when he came back she was completely asleep, dead to the world. He put a vial of hangover cure potion by the bed with some water for her, then climbed in the other side. He was careful to give her a wide berth.

Soon, he was asleep too.

~~~
Morning light came through the window as Christian stretched, feeling the foreign sensation of a woman in his bed. This had literally never happened to him before. Maybe he had shared a bed with Cole before, but that was completely different. Cole wasn’t soft and inviting, and someone Christian was attracted to. Cole was his brother. Azalea, however….
He started to climb out of bed to go to the restroom. He finished his business and brushed his teeth—feeling as though his breath was stale. He made some noise coming back into the room to try and wake her.
“Morning sunshine.” He offered with a little knowing glance. She would need the potion he put aside for her.
Reluctantly, she had followed him to bed. She was too unsteady on her feet to walk independently. She held to him tightly-as tight as she could while he kept a firmer grip on her-back to the bedroom. Azalea clambered into bed and whines a little as he tucked her in before going into the bathroom. Within minutes and settling into the bed, she was passed out with the blanket pulled tightly under her chin
-----
The warm sun peeking through the windows kissed her face and she sleepily smiled. She hadn't begun to stir and wake until Christian came back into the room and greeted her. With a deep inhale, she began to stir shifting under the blankets. "Christian? Good morning," her words mumbled together as she buried her face deeper into the pillows with a quiet groan. Her head was pounding and the light seemed to make it perfectly worse right behind her eyes. "How long was I asleep for?"
“Not that long.” He promised. “It’s about… eight or nine?” He shrugged. “I’m a bit of an early riser, usually, so this was a lie in.” He joked. “I put a potion by the bed for you, should help with the hangover.” He promised. “Water, too. I really should have made you hydrate before I let you go to bed.” He admitted.
He crawled back into the bed next to her, feeling cold. He was shirtless, but wearing long sweatpants. She hadn’t seen him shirtless before now, he realized. She had been asleep when he went to bed the night before, and he felt a little shy about himself suddenly. Not that he really had a reason to. He was thick-built with a muscular chest. There were no six-pack abs, but his stomach was firm and his muscles defined. He worked out, and was very proud of it. More impressive than his chest, though, were his muscular, slightly bulky arms.
“I can cook breakfast in a few, or we can pick up something greasy downtown. I know the place that makes the best breakfast sandwiches on the East Coast.” He grinned. “Eggs will help the hangover, too.”
Christian's words registered in her head but he sounded so far away. Things were so muddled and clouded in her head it made it difficult to process everything he was saying. Sleep was trying to overtake her again and she was losing. The way the bed shifted under his weight is what pulled her out of her daze. She peeked around the pillows at him and felt s slight blush stark across her nose. Azalea knew Christian was well-built and very handsome, but damn- She didn't mind taking her time and enjoying the sight before her. Who knew when she'd see this again?
"I drank too much too fast," she pouted, the stretched and yawned to roll over and get the potion. Azalea sat up a little with her head pounding from every light and sound around her. She took the potion and drank it all in one swallow. Then she sipped at her water as she relaxed back into the pillows.
Azalea looked at him again and realized she probably was a mess. Her hair all over the place, silky pajamas wrinkled, and, was that droll on her chin?;She quickly wiped it off with another sip. Christian had never seen her in such a state as this nor had she planned for him to so soon. Azalea was proud in her appearance and was sure to always look her best. Except for right now where her headache immobilized her for the time being.
"Usually I get up early too, but I was passed out. You should have used it to your advantage to sleep in a little more. Working at the ministry, you don't get many opportunities like that." She sighed placing a hand over her eyes. It was far too bright. "Next time we decide to visit each other, come see me in London? I promise I won't get drunk and pass out like this again."
He smiled at her a little. “I barely got up just now.” He assured. “Went to the bathroom, brushed my teeth. I’ll start coffee.” He assured. He left quickly, a little self-conscious of being half-nude in front of her not enough to put a shirt on. He put the coffee on to start and waited around, giving her a few minutes to herself. He didn’t know how she took her coffee—he liked his black—so he brought some cream and sugar for her anyway. He brought the two hot mugs and the dressings to the bedroom.
“Hot off the press.” He teased, offering her a cup. By the press he meant his French press, one of his favorite coffee-making tools. He liked the taste much better this way. “Dunno how you drink yours, I usually take mine black, but I have some flavored creamer and sugar leftover from when my brother was here for Christmas and New Years.” Altogether, it wasn’t that old. Christmas had only been about two weeks ago, and non-dairy creamer kept for ages. He didn’t explain his brother. He talked about him often enough, having been Cole’s legal guardian for the past year.
Even so, he hadn’t necessarily explained that his brother wasn’t his biological brother or that they weren’t really related in any capacity. He also hadn’t explained that he was legally responsible for him, either. “Drink drink, it’ll help.” He promised, sliding back into the warm bed. He kept his distance so their thighs wouldn’t touch.
She tried so hard to sit upright and be aware for this morning's conversations. Her head spun and sleep was easily overtaking her. She didn't even have a chance to politely decline him making coffee for the two of them before she had processed what he had said. At that point, he was already gone.
Her head felt fuzzy and her eyes heavy. She took another sip of her water before she rolled over and buried her head underneath the pillows to keep the light out. The blanket was pulled tightly over her shoulders.
Azalea didn't remember falling back asleep, but there seemed to be a short piece of time she couldn't recall up to when he reappeared with the coffee. When she heard his voice, she stirred again and peeked her eyes open. As big to be rude, she sat up some and took the mug.
"Black coffee is far too bitter. I like it sweet," she took some creamer and sugar and stirred it in. Azalea sipped at her drink lightly. Coffee certainly wasn't her cup of tea. It had to have been an American thing. Every once in awhile she would help herself to s cup o' joe, but she preferred her teas and waters.
"Thank you," she mumbled soft. Her eyes remained shut at the brigt light seeping through the windows. ,"I'm sorry for the fool that I was last night" flashes of the night prior came to mind. Thankfully, she wasn't too embarrassing. "What can I say? I like vodka," she attempted to joke. This way in the morning though made it difficult to be witty and clever.
“You weren’t a fool, just a little tipsy and sleepy.” He promised. “You were very sweet.” He told her, smiling over at her. “Did you drink the potion? It shouldn’t take long to kick in and that light sensitivity should go down a bit, and so should the throbbing.” He admitted. “I’m no stranger to hangovers, trust me.” He admitted. “Technically, I’m not old enough to drink in America.” He admitted. “But I’m tall and broad and look older than I am. I never get carded.” He sighed. “Don’t tell my boss?” He laughed a bit.
He put an arm around her gently. She was cool to the touch, too. “You cold? Snuggle up with me under the covers a bit.” He offered. “You can put that coffee on the bedside table. Don’t forget the coaster.” He nagged lightly, concerned about his furniture.
“C’mere.” He opened his arms for her.
She laughed sleepily through a breathy exhale. She rubbed her eyes and nodded softly. "I did. I just don't like bright light when I first wake up." She blinked her eyes a couple of times then looked over at him with an amused look.
"Snuggles?" While she didn't feel cold, the though was very alluring. "Yes please," she had set the coffee down on the nightstand but quickly slid the coaster underneath it upon his request. She crawled over to him curling up against his chest. Her head rested on his shoulder as her arms wrapped around his torso. He was so soft and warm against her. "I don't think we've snuggled like this before. I like it," she inhaled deeply and caught a waft of his scent. She smiled and nuzzled his chest with her nose. Dang, he smelled so good after his shower.
