{for the lost and weary travelers} Jet

Getting back into the swing of things after break was always a difficult transition. Moreso this particular term than ever for Ben. He had a lot of thoughts he still hadn’t put into action quite yet. It was in his nature, though, to be cautious. Right now he worried that acting would change things in a detrimental manner so he needed to figure out how to approach this before he did something regrettable.

Focusing on his studies was always his biggest priority, though, because it was like clockwork and required very little working out on his part. Meeting up with Jet at the library would only further his focus. The Ravenclaw was a nice guy and one of the few people who he’d shared some secrets with. They had similar interests, too, which always helped. “Hey.” He greeted, once he crossed the threshold and made it to the table the other wizard was sitting at. He dropped his messenger bag on the table, grinning at the other boy, before he slumped into his seat. He loosened his Slytherin tie a bit and dropped his robes on top of the table. He’d already rolled his sleeves up during potions and so he was as comfortable as he was going to get. “What should we start with?” he asked, a few subjects coming to mind but wanting to see if Jet wanted to work on something specific.

He fiddled with his fingers as he wandered through the library, searching for a book that could contain something more about Occamy then what he had already read. His blue eyes scanned the lines of covers, skimming over the titles as he walked. The thick one in sapphire-coloured leather ended up making him stop in his tracks. He shifted his weight onto his right foot, reaching for the volume, but it was too high. His fingers couldn't reach the edge of the shelf where the book was, and he let out a small huff. He tried to raise himself on his toes; the tip of his fingers brushed over the book's cover. It wasn't enough to pull it out, though. "Vas-y," he whined, trying to pull himself up on his toes as much as he could, biting on his lower lip in frustration. The fact he could've just used his wand didn't cross his mind at that moment. "Juste un peu plus," he groaned, staring pleadingly at the book up there.

He bent in his knees, staring at his target and leaping into the air. His hand grabbed the top of the book, pulling on it strongly. He succeeded. A wide smile briefly flashed over his face.

Only half of the shelve had followed the thick book which had been squeezed between them before. All of them fell to the floor while Jet covered his head as he jumped to the side to get away from the paper yet heavy meteorites. "Merde!" He swore. He looked around, noticing other students looking at him, immediately flushing red. He smiled sheepishly at them, embarrassed beyond everything and then hurried to pick up all the fallen books. It was a miracle the librarian didn't hear the noise. He didn't want to be thrown out of the library. Just the thought alone sounded dreadful.

Picking up the books, he finally remembered he could have just used his wand to gather them up and could have saved himself from embarrassment. His cheeks flushed hot again at the realization, even though no one could really see him as he hovered above the floor, his freckled hands piling up the books. Once he was done, he cast a spell on them to line them back to the shelve apart from the one he wanted to keep. He found himself a free table, slipping into the chair and opening the manual eagerly. He smiled brightly, looking at those pages, and he leaned closer as he started reading.

Minutes trickled by, Jet getting lost between the lines and drawn images.

The moment he heard Ben's voice, a soft smile spread across his lips, ears flushing as his eyes turned to his friend coming to the table he was sitting at. He blinked as Benjamin dropped his things onto the table (there were many books piled up around Jet) and breathed out a shy but excited 'hi' towards the Slytherin. Ben was one of his favourite people. It was rare and took time for Jet to relax and open up around other wizards and witches, especially boys, though. Benjamin was one of a handful Jet was more confident around and comfortable expressing himself without any judgement or awkwardness.

"I've been mostly doing an additional reading," he admitted to the Slytherin's question, nibbling on his lower lip. Ben knew what those words meant. Jet buried in hordes and hordes of books either about cactuses, magical creatures or healing magic. "I still have homework from herbology and charms to do." He shuffled around in his seat, putting aside some books. "Um, do you have anything you need help with?" He asked.

As he settled in he couldn't help the dimpled grin tugging his lips up as he took in the amount of books stacked around the blond Ravenclaw. It did not surprise him, of course, but it was still amusing. His fingers twitched at his side as he held them back so he wouldn't ruffle the other boys hair. He groaned internally suspecting his hard earned reputation would turn to shambles when the student body realized he had a soft spot for the Ravenclaw. There was nothing for it, really. He supposed it really didn't matter in the grand scheme, though. If anyone questioned him about it he had zero qualms about showing them the error of that mindset.

He leaned forward a bit, long fingers wrapping around an inkwell and a quill, then settling it down on the table next to some bound parchment. His blue gaze flickered up towards Jet when he spoke, laughing a bit, as he shook his head. "Additional reading isn't homework." he said wryly, raising an eyebrow rather good-naturedly.  "Potions." he grunted with a bit of a sigh, dumping his own books on the table, and adding to the already messy pile. "We can start with Charms, though." he said, perking up quite a bit at the thought.

Charms, in his opinion, was a superior subject. He honestly did not have the patience for Potions half the time, though he knew it was important. "How was your break?" he questioned curiously, as he attempted to get some of his notes organized. He took out various leaflets of parchment and separated them by subjects before grabbing his quill and making an outline of assignments due on a new parchment. He added a little reminder to himself that he really needed to draft another letter to his penpal as well. It'd be rude to keep him waiting and he was rather curious about Durmstrang.

Jet did a small pout when Ben commented about his additional reading. "I did get most of it done though," he stuck out his tongue at him and shifted some of the books away to make more space on the desk. He gave one last longing gaze to the book he had been reading before turning his focus back onto his friend. He giggled softly at the sour expression on Benjamin’s face at the thought of having to do Potions homework.

"Well, we could." He agreed. "But you sure you want to keep Potions as the last one?" He arched an eyebrow at him, a bit amused. He thought it was cute whenever Ben got grouchy about schoolwork. Jet did all his homework with glee and eagerness, no matter the subject. It was better than math or any kind of Muggle subjects anyway. He wondered how would Ben approach Potions if he gave the other a few lessons in Chemistry or Math. Did wizards learn those kinds of subjects at all? "Though we do gotta do both anyway." He shrugged a little.

The moment Ben asked about his break, Jet’s mind flickered towards Ezra, and he flushed bright red. "Um," he got out, sounding a bit choked up. "Good," he ended, blinking a bit before he let out a small groan. He was looking everywhere but at Ben. He knew he was super obvious and a huge mess, but he wasn’t sure how to make himself act smooth and proper in this case. "I think we should focus on schoolwork though," he announced, trying to change the topic, although he was almost sure Ben would poke and want to know more. He wasn’t sure he wanted to talk with his straight friend about that, though. It was kind of … embarrassing … how do you talk about it with a straight male friend?!

Oh god.

This was going to be a nightmare. Jet was regretting this already. Thank god, it was at least only Ben and not Zane and Ben.

“I’m glad you managed to get your actual work done.” he quipped, dipping his quill in ink and starting on an outline of all the work he still had due.

“Perhaps you’re right.” He admitted with a bit of a sigh. It would probably be a good idea to dive first into the subject he didn’t like, since he had someone pushing him to do it as opposed to finding the desire to do it by himself.

“That good huh?” he asked with a laugh, waggling his eyebrows a bit in an effort to get a blush out of his friend. It was a fun game for him, usually, and he was quite flustered just now. “You always ruin all of my fun.” he said, lips curving up.

“Potions, then?” he’s asked, wrinkling his nose a bit.
