Soléy peered into the pen impatiently, her fiddling with the lunascope in her hands the only sign that betrayed her excitement as well. With the full moon due to be showing itself soon, they were right on time, perhaps even a little early, to take their first peeks at the new baby mooncalves, now almost ready to be handled. After all, they'd rushed over right after a hurried dinner with her cousin Aase in the lead.
Normally she wouldn't be this eager to volunteer for a Care of Magical Creatures project, much less something this hands on, but seeing her cousins and friends having such a firm grasp on what they wanted to do when they 'grew up' was throwing Soléy for a loop. She was not sure how well she'd do for her O.W.L.s, and until very recently, hadn't really been concerned about it. She always thought she'd worry about it when the time came, but now the time
has come, and the fact that she
still wasn't very worried was worrying her. So in a bid to try new things she might be good at, she signed up for M.O.O.
In her own opinion, she handled the whole process quite valiantly, not as bothered with the smells and not-quite hygenic conditions as she thought she'd be. She's always
liked animals, but she wasn't entirely convinced yet that taking care of them was quite the right field for her; either way, this M.O.O. project would surely boost her marks for CoMC, and that couldn't hurt. Soléy was turned to another member in their group, trying to persuade them to transfigure their hat into a bucket so they could bring back some of the silvery mooncalf dung back to the greenhouses for manure, before the tentative thuds of hooves on grass caught her attention.
"
Look, there they are!" Soléy pointed, trying to keep her voice at an acceptable level for the calves, who seemed half-heartedly curious, "Oh aren't they sweet? Their eyes are almost as big as saucers!" She grabbed Aase's arm and looped hers through the crook of her elbow, pulling her cousin close and beamed at her. No matter what intents and purposes they were all here for, no one could deny that this was
quite an exciting moment.
