Shop Name: Grimli: Rare Books and Collected Curios
Street Address: 11 West Knockturn Alley
Owner: Niska Zukov
Employees: Niska Zukov, Amaranth Stringfellow, Draco Malfoy
Hours: sometime between 8am-5pm (mostly at owner's discretion), 11pm-4am
Merchandise:

Grimli has always sold strange artifacts and books. The fact that the shop a is front for the less-than-legal fight club going on in the basement means that the actual shop part is rarely utilized by anyone other than the occasional soul who happens to wander in accidentally. Much of the merchandise has been there for years, and quite a few of them are broken or torn. There is a ton of stuff shoved into crannies or stuck behind other things, so perusing the shelves is often an adventure. There is probably a lot of really valuable stuff there, if someone would bother to look.

Most of the books there have been collected by the many owners in their travels, or they have been donated by patrons. Some of the books are extremely old and rare. Some of them fall apart at even the slightest touch and must be handled with care. Any of the more hardy books are guaranteed to be full of dust and spiders and possibly some evil curses. A surprising number of the books are one of a kind: like personal journals, hand-drawn sailing and astronomical maps, and a number of spell books that have never seen the light of day.

Like the books, the curios are a collection of bits and bobs that the owners and patrons have put on the shelf to give an air of mystery. The curios are mostly small, strange things. Aside from some nice statuettes and other more normal objects, there is a lot of merchandise whose  purpose is not readily apparent. Upon further inspection, a trained eye might realize that a lot of the merchandise is pretty fascinating and curious or unusual. They are just trinkets with moving parts and random artifacts that the Grimli family had on hand, and that people have dropped off over the years. Among these are weapons, clocks, lamps, toys, unopened potions, tools, instruments, decorative pieces, jars, toys, and so on.

Overall, there is actually a lot of really rare, really interesting things that have just been sitting on the shelves since the shop was founded almost two centuries ago. Unfortunately, a lot of the artifacts and books are not for sale. The previous owner Archie Strom, who ran the shop for half a century, realized the value of the objects in the shop and decided to set a policy of only selling the objects that were not a part of history. He kept a pocketbook that lists all the merchandise marked under "Do Not Sell", and a ledger that attempts to catalog everything in the shop and its use, though it is far from complete. He also realized, through experience and the occasional obituary, that a lot of the artifacts and books left there were cursed, and he had no way of knowing what was safe or not. So it's probably best not to touch anything that looks suspicious.

Description:
Outside:
Like many of the shops in Knockturn Alley, Grimli is a dreary mishmash of black and dark green and grey. It doesn't stand out much and one might miss it if they weren't looking for it. This is the point. Grimli is supposed to look innocuous and boring as not to draw suspicion. The owners have never been terribly occupied with bringing in customers or keeping the shop ship-shape. Most of the repairs have been done half-heartedly so there are patches of slight color and a few mismatching tiles and so on. The building itself is a few centuries old, and has been owned by Grimli for a good part of that. It's really very old and is falling apart a little bit. This isn't so much neglect as it is a business choice. No one in the right mind would wander into such an old and creepy shop.

Grimli is a two story shop with a basement. The front-face entrance to the shop features a large glass display window that takes up about 2/3 of the front. It is meant to soothe passerby's curiosity by showing just what is inside and how very uninteresting it is. The display also serves as a method for communication. Certain artifacts sitting on display at the shop are signals to the combatants and spectators when a main fight is happening: a white teacup for a magical duel, a worn leather scabbard for a weapon fight, and black pearl cuff-links for a fist fight. A few times a month there is a main fight, but speed rounds happen more frequently and these are signaled by a porcelain deer statuette.

Inside: (click)
The inside of the shop is a little better than the outside because it is cleaned more often. There is a wide, rather luxurious wooden desk by the back wall (facing the front). The desk is in front of a tiny backroom containing all the shop's files and a single work desk. Between the front desk and front door is a low display table packed full of stuff.  The walls are lined with shelves of knick knacks or books and there are a few free standing shelves also spilling trinkets. Chandeliers and other strange things hang from the ceiling, on display. Especially tall customers should be careful. The place is very dim and dusty and crawling with spiders and other strange creatures. There is a fireplace on one of the side walls that is usually traversed by Grimli spectators heading to a fight.

Owners usually live above Grimli in a one-room apartment. It has a kitchen and a bed and some shelves and a lot of empty space. It is accessable by a staircase that goes from the shop to the second floor. The staircase is hidden behind a melting shelf.

Basement: (click)
The basement is only accessible by stairway whose entrance is hidden by a a shelf on the back wall. The shelf melts into the floor to reveal the staircase once someone says the password, which changes monthly. At the bottom of the stairs is the battle arena. It is simply a big open room with a wooden ring built in the middle. The ground inside the ring is slightly lower than the raised floor outside of it so spectators packed like sardines can get a better look at the fighters. The wooden ring can expand or shrink depending on the fight happening. It is smallest for fistfights, large for magical duels, and any of the intermediate sizes for the many weapons fights. There is a magical barrier around the ring to keep blood, debris, and stray hexes from the spectators.

Next to the stairs and on the back wall is a table where bets are made and drinks (mostly alcoholic) are available for fighters and spectators alike.

Description:
Asclepius's Apothecary & Greenhouse stands out as a rose among thorns in Knockturn Alley. It is styled as an elegant, traditional apothecary. The storefront is made of ebony, with brass letters overhead reading "Asclepius's Apothecary & Greenhouse." An antique brass sign hangs near the door reading, "est. 1978." The windowpanes are also made of brass, with spotless, clear windows. Behind the curved display windows, a selection of the apothecary's finest hand-blown and stained glass potion bottles are displayed, as well as jeweled cauldrons, crystal phials, and carved mortar and pestles [the display windows are, of course, well-protected with use of anti-theft curses and hexes].

Inside, the flooring, shelves, counters, and cabinets are also made of ebony and are decorated with brass hardware. Customers first see a book display, showcasing the latest and greatest books on potion-making. Off to the left, on one of the ebony counters, sits an antique brass cash register. Behind the counter is a display, showcasing their pre-made potions, as well as the entrance into the back rooms [one of which is a lounge area for the employees, and another is the glass-blowing room]. To the right, upon first entering the shop, scales and mortars and pestles are displayed. Further down, in a large cabinet, are the phials and empty potion bottles. At the back of the store are the cauldrons, as well as the entrance to the greenhouse. Upstairs are the administrative offices.

The greenhouse [which looks much more like a "secret garden" of sorts than a traditional greenhouse] portion of the shop is is made of brass with glass windows. Many [non-lethal] magical and mundane plants can be found growing freely, with a fountain in the center which holds Lethe River water. Decorative stepping stones create paths to the most commonly collected specimens, and statues featuring characters from Greek mythology [most notably Pan and Centaurus] are found throughout as decoration.

Shop Name:  The Devil's Den
Street Address: 42 Knockturn Alley, London
Owner:  Erasmo Moreno (i.e. “Oogie Boogie” del Olmo)
Employees:  Tiberius Wolfram, Brutus Dex (NPC), Rohan Zukov (NPC)
Hours:  12pm-5am everyday

The Devil’s Den is first and foremost a bar and therefore shines when it comes to alcoholic drinks. Of course there are the more tame and normal drinks (Firewhiskey, vodka, etc), and those are served there. But most people don’t go there for the boring drinks, they go for the signature, more adventurous ones. The The Devil’s Den is a brilliant and abominable cross between a bar and an apothecary. The signature drinks are expertly and carefully crafted with various spirits and rare magical ingredients mixed in to give customers an exciting night.

Description:
     Overall Description
At its basest, The Devil's Den functions much like a thief's guild. Criminals tend to gather there to have a good time and get some work done all at once. Its regular clientele includes con men, thieves, mercenaries, assassins, smugglers, and basically the sort of criminals one would expect to see sulking about Knockturn Alley. The Devil's Den is not lawless though, and is strictly supervised by the bartender and various security personnel under orders to maintain the peace. In a lot of ways, The Devil's Den is one of the safest places in Knockturn Alley because it is under heavy security so that business can proceed uninterrupted. It is a favorite meeting spot of various criminals because they are almost guaranteed safety from the law and anonymity due to the nature of the bar. Aside from a nice drink, people go in to socialize with like-minded individuals, gather intel, spread information, pick up jobs, keep book, and gamble.

     Exterior
The people inside do not want strangers wandering in or sticking their noses where they do not belong. The outside of the building is a small, dilapidated building with broken roof tiles and graffiti all over the aged brown walls. Even in Knockturn Alley, it’s the sort of place people wouldn’t want to visit due to the rancid rotting odor surrounding the place. Like many other magical buildings, The Devil's Den is charmed to be far bigger on the inside than it is on the outside. In addition to this, there are dozens of backrooms and hallways leading at many stories down. It is nearly impossible for anyone who does not know the full layout of the building to tell how big it is from the outside, or even the inside.

     The Entrance
Getting into The Devil's Den is no easy task. This isn't one of those places that a muggle or normal wizard could accidentally walk into. It is heavily fortified with hundreds of wards and spells to keep outsiders and law enforcement out. Once someone walks through the front door, they enter a short and dirty hallway with another door at the end of it. The second door appears as old and dirty as the rest of the hallway, but once the person speaks the passcode (which rotates regularly) , the door morphs into a rich oak door with an ornate speakeasy grille and grate, behind which a bouncer/security guard is stationed to confirm the identity of the person seeking entry. The door can only be opened from the inside and the grate is warded against most spells, including Imperio.

     The Bar Room
The bar at The Devil's Den is all wooden and reminiscent of a classic tavern. There is a fireplace in the bar room that always has a raging fire, though its flooing capabilities are only accessible to certain people, as it would be easy to bypass the door security by simply flooing in if everyone could use it. There is seating at the bar, smaller circular tables around the room, and semi-private booths for any customers who want to converse and spend time. The bar room is wide and spacious, the noise level anywhere between hushed whispers to riotous shouting depending on what is happening. It isn’t terribly uncommon for bar fights to break out, though these fights are not the kind to be taken lightly, since most people in the room are trained fighters and killers.

    The Job Board
There is a bulletin board on the opposite side of the door, close to the bar. It is completely covered with seemingly-random pieces of paper and notes, like potions tutor advertising or missing pet signs. To anyone else, these signs wouldn't be worth a second look, but to the regulars who know the code, called "the Cant", these signs function as classified. Criminals in between jobs or looking to make some extra money often go to the board to see what is available. Hidden within the clutter are want ads for things ranging from heists to assassinations to information. Criminals can take a job or put up an ad, with the ads usually including a name, an address, or some other information but most importantly: the price.

     The Backrooms
Like most magical buildings, The Devil's Den is much bigger on the inside than it appears on the outside. There are a number of secret back rooms branching off from the main bar, though access is limited only to those who have business being there. Aside from storage, most of the backrooms are used as gambling parlors, interrogation rooms, private parlors, and many more. At any given time, there is some sort of Wizard's Poker or Longsnout Draw game going on in one of the backrooms. Thieves who like drink tend to find The Devil's Den a very nice place to pass the time. But be warned: since everyone in the game is a liar or thief, trying to swindle the other players would be at one's own peril. Aside from game rooms, The Devil's Den is equipped with many elegantly decorated parlor and sitting rooms for clients to conduct their private business in a safe, neutral environment.

     The Sublevels
The Devil's Den is more than just a bar and a game house. It also serves as the headquarters of Oogie Boogie's criminal empire. Beneath the den are eight floors of underground structures that serve as the core of his business. The sublevels are only accessible by authorized personnel and under armed guard 24/7. The sublevels are layered with hundreds of thousands of wards and countless contingency systems in the event of a breach.

Manager| Head Cook Lyuba has been a fixture in Knockturn alley for all of her 57 years. From her past as street urchin, thief, bar maiden, and finally working her way up to the position that she's in, she has seen a lot. Lyuba is familiar with all of the big players in Knockturn, and the little players as well. Even though she has a soft spot for the urchins that run around, she plays no games, and will knock someone right off their feet with her handy bat.
Other Positions: There are a few more positions that are available to be filled at Mama's. Line cooks, runners (for owl orders), and general clean up staff positions are available.
Hours:
     Sunday: 2-8  - Pasta Special
     Monday: 11-8
     Tuesday: 11-8
Wednesday: 11-8 - Vulcan's Special (Giant Deli Sandwiches)
     Thursday: 11-8
     Friday: 11-10 - Pizza Special
     Saturday: 11-10

Merchandise: A brand new business in the remains of what used to be an old apothecary, Mama's Delicatessen is Knockturn's one stop shop for all things delicious. A standing room only deli and general store, patrons can come in, order a full meal to go, purchase seasonings and potions ingredients and tools, or order those potions that take a delicate touch. While there is a full spread of deli meats, soups cheeses and sides, every day there is a different hot special for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. The deli also specializes in select baked goods. The store also supplies goods to other places in the Alley. Mama's employs only Knockturn Alley residents. An hour before close every night, the 2 Knut special begins. Deli sandwiches, loaves of bread, and sides can be purchased for 2 knuts a piece with a limit of 5 sandwiches. The owner is a known Potion Master, so legal potions can be ordered through the shop at a lower fee than through St. Mungo's.
Description: A three level building tucked in between two taller buildings, the entrance to Mama's is small and cluttered. Dark wood framed double doors are the only way to get into the store, with one of them doors always remaining open to the public, unless there is inclement weather. Visible on the walls right outside of the doors are various insignia carved into the stone noting the deli as a neutral and protected location. Baskets of goods sit on a table visible as soon as one walks in, with tiny whicker baskets for customers to fill set beside them. From one end of the shop to the other, a wall of goods spans across, also with baskets on each end filled with vegetables, basic potions ingredients from the third level greenhouse, and other small items. Finally, on the other side of the room is the deli counter and the till, where customers can place their orders for to go items, both hot and cold, and place orders for potions.
