positions

2004-2005

In this thread, you will find a list of any open teaching positions around the schools. Administrators will post when a new position has opened, and it is your responsibility to post in this thread if you're interested in taking over the role.

Professors are given moderator privileges and should be played with the utmost responsibility. Each professor should be a graduate of the school they are teaching at, should be over thirty, and should follow the rules of their school (i.e. the appropriate nationalities, no Muggleborns without exceptional stories for Durmstrang, etc.). Professors are expected to keep their class lists up to date and post regularly in their classes, as well as make new lessons as required.

For specific rules per school, please contact the respective School Admin: Olivia for Hogwarts, Daphne for Ilvermony, Inga for Beauxbatons, and Dylan for Durmstrang.

When applying for a position, make sure to include a sample of how you'll start your first lesson.

Any position designated OPEN may be applied for with your own character. NPC names are supplied for reference in threads, etc. If you would like to "adopt" that NPC, you may apply to do so. Please note that all canons must be applied for in the Free & Taken Canon Characters thread.

For Department Heads, they should be at least 30 years old; older is preferred, though younger may be considered on a case-by-case basis. They must have worked for the Ministry for at least five years IC (which is subject to sheet review) and it must be realistic.

Also available at the Ministry are Lead positions. For example: Lead Auror, Lead Hit Wizard, Lead Obliviator, Lead Witch Watcher, etc. Most Ministry offices will have two to three lead positions available. The minimum age requirement is 25 years old (though 30+ is preferred), with at least four years of experience in the field/office.

For St. Mungo's Head Healers, your character should be at least 30 years old; 35+ is preferred, though younger may be considered on a case-by-case basis. They must have completed their Healer training, must have worked for St. Mungo's for a reasonable amount of time (they can't have just become employed a year or two ago IC), and it must be realistic. Again, this is subject to sheet review.

If you're still interested, please PM the form below to the school admin affiliated with your character's country of residence (i.e. Hogwarts Admin for British Ministry). Positions will be awarded first to already approved characters and then can be temporarily reserved (for 6 months real time) for WIPs.

Please note that all positions are subject to IC activity. In order for your character to keep their current position, they must be posted IC regularly: at least once every 6 months for any IC post, and at least once every 9-12 months in their specific job IC. If these basic requirements are not met, your character may be dropped from their position. This is to avoid 'cluttering' the positions with inactive characters, thus freeing up availability for active characters.

I'd like to apply for Pavel to be Illusions prof at Durmstrang (again). He's 44 and a former Klyk Vampira.

Sample:

It was another year at Durmstrang and Pavel found himself uncharacteristically looking forward to it. The former Klyk Vampira had spent much of the summer holidays abroad in the Ukraine studying the language patterns of a small tribe that had migrated from Turkey many years prior. It had been a job non-related to any he'd taken before, but it had provided him with a much needed break from the mind numbing children he would be teaching. As he reflected on the last few jobs he'd had, he wondered how he always got himself into odd situations. First it was an assistant to a businessman, then it was as a linguist, then an Illusions professor (albeit not as talented as they could've found), and then a cultural anthropologist-type, and now here he was getting ready to head back to Durmstrang to resume his teaching position. Taking a drink from his goblet, he then set it down on the table and walked from his office towards his new classroom.

As he entered the classroom, he scowled to himself. It was too cold, too barren, and smelled of old people and peppermint, which was not a good combination. Waving his wand, he pushed the desks into a circular formation along the walls of the classroom and then began to redecorate the classroom with things he'd brought. Once he was satisfied, he sat in his chair and waited for the students to arrive. He watched them curiously as one by one they entered and took their seats. Normally, Pasha would have greeted the students as they entered the classroom, but he was conducting an experiment. The first lesson he'd learned in Illusions as a student was that things weren't always what they seemed. Before the first students had arrived, Pasha had woven a small illusion to show a wall to the students where his desk was. He hoped that some brave soul would challenge what they had learned in previous years and apply it, but if not then Pasha would surely need as much alcohol as he could find that year.

Ten minutes passed and finally someone had realized the trickery behind this lesson's introduction. Sitting up in his chair, he greeted the students with a timid nod. "Good morning," he said, and then stood up quickly and walked to the front of his desk where he leaned against it. "Today's lesson shouldn't be too hard for most of you. Understanding how illusions work first requires one to understand how humans work. I can bet that 80% of you are very good at being fake and two-faced, am I correct?" Smirking, he thought of his days in Klyk Vampira and how many people he'd actively tried to prank and fool. "For those of you who are more honest with who you are, you have much to learn. Illusions is the art of manipulation and reality. Who can give an example of a way people manipulate others everyday?"

Applying for the Beauxbatons Flying Prof, Wassim Said. 35 years old, former Belle.

“Welcome to today’s flying class,” Wassim Said said, standing on the improvised Quidditch pitch at Manoir Vertneuf. It was frustrating to teach at this place. He had done what he could to create a Quidditch pitch but this was still just a simple field and the goal posts were pickets from the fence that surrounded the field which he had grown and transfigured into goal hoops when he needed them. Although this was working out okay, it still wasn’t the same as it was to train in proper conditions. He could understand the students’ frustration with the situation but, of course, he tried to cheer them up.

“I’ve set some more goal hoops than usual,” he said, gesturing towards a dozen hoops, three on each side of the field. “For today I figured we’d do some special chaser - keeper practice. We’ll play with four quaffles and four teams, each consisting of only a keeper and three chasers.” He paused and looked for his students’ reactions.

“I know, I know…” he said, “this is a different approach. Each team of chasers can go for whichever other team’s keeper they want. So, if things go badly, there might be nine chasers with three balls heading towards one goal. I know this will be chaotic but there are no bludgers so you really only focus on the quaffles and I want everyone of you to play both roles at some point.”

He wasn’t sure if his idea was going to work out but a simple flying lesson, even a simple Quidditch practice didn’t seem like it could excite his students a lot these days. He wanted to do something different, something they might talk about even after the lesson ended.

Character Name: Larkin Primrose

Position Desired: Head of the Department of Mysteries, MACUSA

IC Experience: Larkin Primrose has a long and distinguished history within the magical community, particularly in the field of Arithmancy. His expertise in advanced magical mathematics and extensive knowledge of magical theory have proven invaluable in solving complex magical mysteries and contributing to the understanding of magical phenomena. Larkin has played a crucial role in various investigations, including his internatinoal assistance in the ongoing efforts to apprehend the elusive Dark Widow.

Why would your character be a good choice for the position? Larkin Primrose is the ideal candidate for the position of Head of the Department of Mysteries due to several compelling reasons:
  • Leadership Qualities: In meta, Larkin has already been unofficially leading the Department of Mysteries, as I had him placed as the Head Arithmancer. His colleagues respect his knowledge, and he has effectively coordinated efforts within the department, fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment.
  • Unrivaled Expertise: Larkin is recognized as a leading authority in Arithmancy, with a depth of knowledge that surpasses most in the magical community. His contributions to magical theory and his ability to unravel intricate magical patterns make him an invaluable asset to the Department of Mysteries.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Larkin has consistently demonstrated exceptional problem-solving skills, especially in the face of complex and mysterious magical phenomena. His involvement in various investigations showcases his ability to approach challenges with a keen analytical mind and determination.

Natanael Højstryke here, applying for the Durmstrang position teaching the Curse-Breaking elective. 44 years old, former Krov.

Natanael stood at the front of the Curse Breaking classroom, the air heavy with anticipation. The students, a mix of eager faces and curious expressions, awaited his guidance. He began the class with a commanding presence, his voice carrying the weight of experience and knowledge. "Good morning, class," he greeted, his blue eyes scanning the room. "Today, we delve into the intricacies of combating active Curse-slingers, a task that requires not only theoretical understanding but also practical finesse. This is a skill set that extends beyond the walls of academia, often placing Curse Breakers on the front lines of magical conflicts."

He walked among the desks, each step deliberate, as he continued to address the students. "Picture this scenario: you're part of a search and rescue team. Dark wizards have laid traps to ensnare innocent victims. Your task is to neutralize the threat and extricate those in danger. The spells are intricate, cunning, and potentially lethal. What do you do?" Natanael paused, allowing the question to hang in the air. He observed the students, encouraging them to engage with the material. A hand shot up, and he nodded in acknowledgment.

"Professor Højstryke, is it about identifying the curse first or neutralizing it right away?" a student inquired.

"Excellent question," Natanael replied with a smile. "In the field, timing is crucial. Identifying the curse swiftly provides a strategic advantage, but sometimes immediate action is necessary. Today, we simulate such a scenario. Pair up, and one of you will act as the Curse-slinger while the other analyzes the curse and formulates a plan of action. Remember, effective Curse Breaking requires both knowledge and adaptability."
