On Saturday, 22nd November, 2003, the Firm of Artistic Magical Excellence (F.A.M.E.) held the 76th Annual Wizarding Music Awards. Hosted in Hampton Hall in London, it began with hors d'oeuvres, drinks, and red carpet interviews at 4 pm. The show began promptly at 8 with performances from many of the attending artists, all of it broadcast live on the Wizarding Wireless Network.

Record of the Year went to up-and-coming rock idols The Old Ways, Rupert Hartwood took home Song of the Year?óÔé¼Ôäó for his anthemic Love Potion, and ?óÔé¼?£Best New Artist?óÔé¼Ôäó went to up-and-coming musicians http://www.magical-hogwarts.com/index.php?action=profile;u=25684' rel='nofollow noopener' target='_blank'>Oliver Rigby & the Band. A full list of the awards -- and this reporter's views on all of them -- can be found on page 8.

The Wizarding Music Awards are always the event of the year for musicians, composers, managers, label executives and employees, press, and the select few lucky witches and wizards who score tickets to enjoy the awards show. Though it is nominally a black tie affair, more and more attendees have begun to branch out, enjoying the opportunity to display their unique styles, though this journalist wonders if it isn?óÔé¼Ôäót more to attract attention.[/td]

As the Quidditch season gets underway, tensions have already begun to run high in this year?óÔé¼Ôäós hunt for the Cup. Last month?óÔé¼Ôäós match revealed an abundance of both established and new talent; this month?óÔé¼Ôäós face-off promises much of the same. Students are reminded to keep the competition civil, and that any inappropriate conduct on or off the pitch will be dealt with accordingly.

In the interim, a spat of what appears to be a pesky head cold has been making its way through the ranks of both students and faculty alike. Students are emphatically reminded to practice good hand hygiene and cover their coughs and sneezes, and are strongly encouraged to stop by the Hospital Wing for a Pepper-up Potion if they are feeling under the weather.

Additionally, the 30th of the month marks a traditional Scottish feast day: that of Saint Andrew, patron saint of Scotland (and of fisherfolk). Dinner options will be varied as usual but with a focus on fresh, wild-caught salmon and trout.

The annual December dueling tournament is almost upon Durmstrang Institute. In preparation, there have been an influx of new duelers, dueling practices, and private lessons with Dueling Professor Adonis Hristofis. Having been postponed the year prior due to the Klyk Vampira common room catastrophe, the stakes are now higher than ever for the dueling competition. As part of the punishment for the Klyk Vampiras losing the chips contest, the dueling studio has been booked exclusively by Drakonya Krov, leaving Professor Hristofis to get creative with his schedule for the Klyk Vampiras, his house, to get appropriate training time. Some have whispered that there are midnight Klyk Vampira dueling practices going on in the dueling studio, which Professor Hristofis has adamantly denied. Dueling club, an interhouse interest group, has taken on preparations for the tournament in the coming weeks, and have been busy planning and organizing.

Now that the fall festival festivities have died down, the student council is hard at work preparing for the time-honored tradition of Revolution Day which will take place on the fifteenth of November. The participating students, assigned to either the red or blue team, will be donning their best Revolution Era gear, brandishing their no-maj weapon replicas, and meeting on the battlefield at noon to show off their best moves. Students who are interested in participating and have yet to sign up, are encouraged to apply by the end of the first week of November. Some leadership positions may still be available! Please contact the general of the blue or the red team for more information. Prizes will be assigned to the winning team as well as some of the key players in the competition!

The end of November brings along with it a week-long break (November 21st through November 30th) so that students may return home to celebrate Thanksgiving with their family and enjoy some rest and relaxation. Or those that choose to stay on campus, a feast will be held on Thursday, November 27th, followed by a series of volunteer activities and other opportunities to stay active and entertained. From Friday, November 28th through November 30th, student volunteers will travel across the country to deliver meals and care packages to those in need. All students are encouraged to participate in the packing and delivering of these packages.

November 1 -- France?óÔé¼Ôäós answer to Hallowe?óÔé¼Ôäóen or Day of the Dead, La Toussaint is a celebration of the dead. On this day, people in France honour the dead by placing flowers on loved ones?óÔé¼Ôäó graves and telling stories. At midnight a special supper is eaten. This year La Toussaint lines up with a Chatoeil weekend, and the French village has put on a special twilight market that students may attend to buy sweets and flowers.[/td]

[span class="h1"]PLAYERS TO WATCH OUT FOR[/span]

With the Four Nations tournament in less than a month, many fans are wondering how their favourite players will shape up... or, indeed, if they will. Quidditch analyst and statistician Constantine Cross, of popular Floo-in WWN programme Quidditch Queries, weighs in:

http://www.magical-hogwarts.com/index.php?action=profile;u=22510' rel='nofollow noopener' target='_blank'>Harlan Bellamy is one of the hottest names on the ticket this season: not only has he led his team, the Gravesend Griffins, to a respectable third place in only the first three rounds, the Griffins took home the League Cup last season. However, one wonders whether this penchant for leadership, combined with a notorious temper, will be an asset to the English team, particularly after an on-pitch argument between Bellamy and Tutshill Tornadoes Seeker Otto Bonney nearly turned physical after the game.

Angus Simpson, of Pride of Portree, is another player sure to have an interesting season, after a much-publicised falling-out with Wigtown Wanderers Chaser Athol Macpherson, who also plays for Scotland. Though we already saw them play against each other (in October), we?óÔé¼Ôäóre all very intrigued to see how they work together on a team. Though the Scottish National Team is undoubtedly comprised of some of the most talented players this side of the English Channel, Scottish supporters may want to avoid counting their diricawls too early.

Catriona Macbeth, noteworthy for being the only National Team player not to play in the British and Irish League since going on maternity leave from the Montrose Magpies in 2000, is an enigma as always in the days leading up to the Four Nations Tournament. However, she?óÔé¼Ôäós been spotted training at the Drumossie Moor Quidditch Pitch after hours, and is all but guaranteed to make a splash in the upcoming tournament.

[span class="h1"]NOVEMBER HIGHLIGHTS[/span]

The second and third rounds of the 2003-2004 Quidditch Season saw a marked decrease in foul play following the atrocious behaviour exhibited over opening weekend. Instead, November Quidditch appears extraordinarily tame -- this reporter is crossing his fingers that it doesn?óÔé¼Ôäót stay that way.

The Wimbourne Wasps have plummeted to the bottom of the rankings -- to nobody?óÔé¼Ôäós surprise, following their performance last season. However, according to Which Broomstick correspondent and statistician Byron Brindlestint, this losing streak may not persist for the entire season: ?óÔé¼?ôThe Wasps suffer from too much talent and not enough teamwork,?óÔé¼?Ø he writes. ?óÔé¼?ôWith a few changes in strategy, we could see a startling comeback in the next weeks."

Most surprising, however, was the Chudley Cannons?óÔé¼Ôäó performance: now ranked fourth in the league, the team has had its best opening season since 1850. It remains to be seen whether this momentum will stay through the season hiatus, as national teams gear up for the Four Nations tournament in December. [/td]

[span class="h1"]CANDY CALAMITY[/span]

Bertie Bott's First Annual Jelly Jamboree, held in a converted warehouse at the Bertie Bott's factory, was an unsalvageable mess. Said partygoer Quentin Dragee, whom Daily Prophet staff waylaid as he fled the dance floor, "I got my ticket in a raffle at work. That's the last time I let my boss tell me he's on my side."

Though this reporter thinks the event was doomed to fail from the start, given the saccharine decorating touch and the cloying music, the icing on the cake occurred when a malfunction in the butterbeer fountain caused it to explode, soaking nearly three dozen bystanders (including the unfortunate Mr. Dragee) in foam.

A hotel near Falmouth, Cornwall has banned Cornish Pixies from the premises. "We put the sign up, but we're not quite sure whether they're able to read or not," said Talon & Tailfeather Hotel co-owner Tandy Tarnell. "Nonetheless, we hope this will show them we mean business this time."[/td]

[span class="h2"]BAKER BACK IN THE GAME[/span]

-- http://www.magical-hogwarts.com/index.php?action=profile;u=25008' rel='nofollow noopener' target='_blank'>Jonquil Jones

Banshee frontman and recent divorcee Charlie Baker has been seen sinking his teeth (some witnesses would say literally) into a new potential relationship -- or five minute fling, who really knows with him? The 28-year-old rocker was seen on Thursday at Merlin?óÔé¼Ôäós Cocktail Club with Holyhead Harpy Isabelle Laurent. Laurent, 22, is a recent transfer this season from the Quiberon Quafflepunchers, where she was markedly underutilised as a Reserve, and is apparently as unafraid of causing a stir off the pitch as she is on. Sources say the pair racked up an extortionately high bill in a private booth before leaving together.

[span class="h2"]FALL FRAGRANCES[/span]

Looking for the scent of the season, or just sniffing out gift ideas for that sister-in-law or coworker you never know how to shop for? Look no further -- here?óÔé¼Ôäós a definitive list of the best witches?óÔé¼Ôäó fragrances on the market.

For something flirty and fun, try Ruby from Russian perfumery Duchi s krylami: it has a fruity flair, characteristic of dirigible plums and citrus. Or, if you?óÔé¼Ôäóre looking for something classic yet, perhaps, a little mysterious: Eros, sold by Air Charmant: this herby scent has tones of cedar, sage, and wormwood. For a hint of the seaside, Barclay?óÔé¼Ôäós Driftwood Dreams is perfect: floral, but with hints of sea salt and vanilla. Finally, rich and woodsy, Quelque Chose by Paul Lourdes may be your new closet staple: it bears traces of pine and shrivelfig, and has proven a smash hit with witches over 30.
