[NYC] We could cruise to the blues [Jane]

New York City, NY | June 2003

A week ago, down to the day, it had been, without a single doubt, the best day of his life. He married his best friend. He married the woman he had loved for most of his life—longer than he hadn’t loved her. They were official now, Mr. and Mrs. Lovell. Their actual wedding had been a tiny courthouse affair, with their reception occurring on the rented-out inside of a local bar. They had dancing, drinking, but very little decor. Everything was buy your own to safe up money for this—the most important part. The Honeymoon. Jane had a laundry list of places she wanted to go, and Piers wanted to make everything happen for her.

They had started off in Las Vegas, where Piers had gotten lucky once again winning an almost a thousand galleons worth of money (then losing half trying to win more). They had moved along to Las Angeles, California, where they had spent some time looking around travelling to nearby tourist spots. They saw the Hollywood Sign. They went to the beach and sunned for a day or two. They went to Disneyland, which was a real treat. Piers wasn’t used to muggle environments, and found the whole thing fascinating the way they made magic look so real, when it was clearly not real magic—or was it?

Finally, Piers was taking her to the place she was looking forward to most of all—New York City, the big Apple. He knew Jane loved the big city nightlife kind of thing. He spent an outrageous amount of money to get them into a nice hotel in Manhattan, with an infinity pool on the rooftop and a lounge/bar area to complement it. They had spent most of the day drinking margaritas on the rooftop in the pool, but now it was night time, and they had big plans. He dressed up in his finest muggle clothes and dressed her in a flashy, sexy dress, then escorted, still tipsy, her to a Broadway performance.  Not really his thing, but definitely one for the bucket list. When they were done, they ate greasy pizza at a 24 hour pizza shop, and he brought her to a nice nightclub in the city. He had picked this one out special, and had made VIP reservations with money that he really, really shouldn’t have spent. Due to this, despite the line, they were able to walk right into the club.

He popped the bottle on the champagne, sad this was the last night of their official Honeymoon, and wanting to Celebrate. He poured her a glass. “For you, Mrs. Lovell.” He teased playfully. “God, I could say that forever. My wife.”

Jane still couldn't believe her luck. She was now Mrs. Lovell and she had never been happier. Piers had been her best friend since before she had even known that she was a witch; back when he'd thought she was just a muggle. It was funny to think of how everything had started, standing where she was now, next to the love of her life.

"Jane Lovell does have a nice ring to it. I love it." She smiled up at him adoringly. "I love you."

Honestly, their honeymoon had been so much better than she had ever anticipated. They were popping bottles of champagne in New York City! She had never had champagne until she had started seeing Piers. They'd been to Vegas and Los Angeles, thus far, on their honeymoon and she had loved every second. Everything had been so perfect. Of course, while they'd been travelling the United States, she had been picking up gifts for their friends and family back home. She found several items for Piers's sister, Lulu, and her own younger sister, Charlotte, in particular, as well as a few things for Ryan.

"We should only drink champagne from now on." She joked, enjoying the moment. She felt as though she were the luckiest woman on the planet, and nobody could convince her otherwise.

“Only Champagne?” He teased. “You’d die without your nightly seven shots of firewhiskey.” He teased. She was a drinker, as was he, but she didn’t really drink that much. He laughed a bit, and took a sip of his, relaxing back into the booth. “You think you’ll be ready to head back tomorrow?” He asked. “I honestly never want to go back, but you know, I miss the dog.” He admitted. “And Lu, and everyone, you know.” He shrugged. He had been spending more time with Lulu and Tock lately since the accident, and he was lucky they had both been super supportive, but he still didn’t trust Tock, at least not with his sister. He trusted the boy with his life, but not with his sister’s heart. Tock had burned him before, getting with Jane when he knew that not only did Tock not intend to keep her, but that he knew Piers had always loved her. To Piers, that felt like a betrayal.

He didn’t blame him necessarily, though. He just thought Tock was a bit… immature for a serious relationship. He was going to hurt Lu, the way Piers had hurt Meghan. He just didn’t want to see his sister taken advantage of. Not to mention, Tock came with a kid… a teenager at that. Tock and Lu loved Sid, but Piers thought he was kind of an ass. Of course, Piers couldn’t relate to him the way Tock could, but he didn’t understand why he was so angry. Lots of people d been hurt by the war. Lots of people lost loved ones. He lost his mother right after. He had been part of the fighting, but he didn’t go around being angry like Sid seemed to.

Jane loved them, though, and he loved them too, really. They were always around. Sid’s friends were pretty cool, too, with their cool rock band. Tock seemed to like hanging around with the younger crowd almost more than people his own age. He supposed that came with having his teenage… son? Brother…thing? What did he call him?

Sid wasn’t really that much younger than all them, but he felt like an entirely new generation.  He could tell he was tipsy with the way his brain was going off on tangents. He wasn’t ready to go back, but he knew they had to. “We should do something special for our last night here. I’ve made plenty of decisions. You tell me, what do you wanna do? You want to dance? I could probably score a little something to loosen us up if you want.”
