Question about blood status

If my character has a muggle mother and a squib father (who has been living as a muggle) would this make them a muggleborn or a halfblood?

My character has no contact with his father as he was only around for a few years in his childhood and during this time he never once even mentioned anything about magic.

I would be inclined to say halfblood?

Also, seeing as I've already made a thread - Is it okay to have no house preference for my character? I'm really unsure where to put him and I think an unbiased external opinion would be perfect. If not I'm fine with putting one down.
