Just making sure that I've got my timeline correct, can someone tell me what year the First War started and ended?
And we are in 1997 or 1998 right now?

It's 1998 now and the first war ended in 1981. As for the beginning the Death Eater rebellion and such was started by 1970 more or less, I think.
