The little blonde appreciated the fact that Marin was no longer avoiding her gaze. It was much easier for her to see what he was feeling when he wasn't always avoiding eye contact and the simple fact that he was looking directly at her, calmed her much more than she could have imagined it would. She smiled a trembly sort of smile at him, her brown eyes bright, even in the midst of her dissipating worry. "Really?" she couldn't help asking. "I am?"
She was his best friend! The bestest one! She was so happy she could have jumped up and down. Wini didn't realize how much the words meant to her until he had say them aloud. She knew they were friends, and knew he sorta liked to be in her company, even if she had her moments of doubt. But he had never called her his best friend. The third year looked up at her friend and gave him a look paired with a knowing smile. "I'm going to hug you now," she told him, just before she wrapped her arms around him and squeezed him in tight. After a moment, she nudged his arms with her elbows, wanting him to hug her back, not moving away until he did. She smiled into his jacket and said, "You're my best friend too, Marin."
She reveled in the comfort she felt with him for a few long moments before she stepped back with a glorious smile. The stress of him keeping secrets from her didn't seem like such a big deal anymore. It was a big deal, no doubt, but she wasn't so upset that he didn't want to share somehow. "Hey Marin," she said as she tilted her head and tried to make eye contact with him again. "You know you don't have to be embarrassed about anything with me, right?... Right?" she asked again when the quiet stretched between them.
Wini sighed, not realizing how much tension had built up on her insides and took to scuffing her shoe in the dirt. "How about..." she started, not really wanting to offer the deal she was about to lay out on the table, but doing so anyway in the interest of their friendship. "How about I don't ask any more questions about her as long as you promise to tell me one day what happened. Or!" she said, giving him another option as the idea occurred to her. "You don't have to tell me about her ever--" even if it killed her "--but you do have to tell me stuff. You have to share with me sometimes too instead of me doing all the talking. Alright?"
