Victory Ball "plague" symptoms
« on: February 19, 2015, 12:36:14 PM »
Hi, all!

I'm trying to wrap up Ben's sheet (yay!) and I had a couple questions regarding the specifics of the VB plague cause I was intermittently active during that time. I know there were a few people that died from complications, but being a bit of a medicine nerd myself and writing a sheet for a Healer directly involved in handling the outbreak, I was curious about the specifics so I can include them. >>
  • How rapid was the onset? I think I remember seeing some threads where people started showing symptoms within just a few hours.
  • What were the main symptoms? The ones I vaguely remember were dizziness/ lightheadedness, syncope (fainting), and nausea but I have a feeling there were more.
  • For people that ended up dying, what was the main component of the illness that killed them?
Thanks a bunch in advance! <333

iiiii actually killed off a character with this!

her symptoms were a complete loss of magic, I think there was some skin changing colour, collapsing and then eventually her organs started to fail and she died. people were given a lot of free reign to choose symptoms, though!

Oooh thanks!! (Was it Trinity...? I can't remember who her driver was but I know she got killed off haha). The loss-of-magic is a huge help cause, amid more mild symptoms, that would be a pretty big red flag that something was seriously wrong. Anddd the organ failure is a perfect (albeit morbid) endpoint.

Youuu rock, thanks Amy! <333

She died on Zephir's watch. xD

Lots of dizziness, weakness, some coughing. In the end... basically organ failure. Something to do with her heart in the end, was it Amy?
The problem was that there didn't seem to be any cause (obviously it was magical) and the symptoms could only be treated for so long.

At least that was how we played it. ^^

Not that this would affect Ben, I don't think, but I remember elementals were all immune somehow.

Peter's grandfather had gotten sick from the plague... Because yay charrie drama. Didn't die from it, but never fully recovered, so he's weak magic wise and gets tired easily and sicker quicker (Like his immune system took a toll, plus he's 60...). Just thought i'd toss that into the fire as other thingies related to the plague.

Poor Zeph! I was hoping to find a similar situation for Ben (he had only been a fully-fledged Healer for a little over a year when the plague hit) in terms of a PC dying on his watch, but I know not too many people killed their characters off.

Thanks, girl! That definitely helps, especially with not being able to pinpoint a cause or the mechanism behind it.

Ooh yes I forgot about that, thanks!

Sam had it as well; his started with a flu like fever and weakness but he kept helping kids and adults to the hospital wing to get them to St Mungos until he collapsed; his symptoms were fairly mild but it took about half a year before his magic came back properly, and he still hasn't risked apparating again.

Awesome, thanks Carys! That's how I imagined it - to start as relatively mild flu-like symptoms, and the more severe cases would progress from there.
