Whoa.
He had to admit that his life had taken a hard turn off the road it’d been traveling down. Gavin had always been the responsible one. He had always been the one that never allow anything to stop him from doing the right thing. He was dependable. He had never just lived his life for himself. There had always been something to prove. Since he had gotten out of school there had been a lot of time to think. Oh and think he did. He thought about his future. He thought about his love life. He thought of his responsibilities. Then he thought of himself. Of the man he wanted to become. Question of that supposed man had come to surface on several accounts as of late. He wondered was that man brave enough to face the father of the woman he was now dating.
She needed his support. She needed to know that she was not alone and she was cared for. Gavin wasn’t sure what would happen when that front door opened all he knew was he would not leave her side. He thought back to the letters he and Anzhelika had shared while she was away at school. She had seemed so down, so afraid of judgment. There was no judgment in his mind. Gavin knew that parents could sometimes be judgmental, even more that a person could be on themselves. Maybe it all stemmed from wanting their children to have the best in life. He knew all too well what living up to someone else’s standard could do to a person.
It had taken him a little time to realize that his life was his to live. His choices were his to make, mistakes or not. As he grew more and more into his own man he realized that no one’s judgments matter other than his own. Everyone did something that they were not proud of. Everyone had their own what if moments. With a sigh he took on last look at the sun over head. The weather was on the warm side, which he was grateful of. The air was cool against his skin as it swept by them gently as they stood on the front porch to her parents home. What loomed on the other side of the door scared him slightly. This would be a first and lasting impression of himself to her father.
Turning his gaze down, he looked at her before offering a soft smile. “I’m going to be right here the whole time.” As he spoke his hand moved out to take hers, giving a gently squeeze of comfort. “We’re in no rush, take all the time you need.” He glanced at the door for a second before looking back at her. He couldn’t imagine what was going through her head. He could barely understand how afraid she was. He wondered why the biggest moments in a person’s life had to be the scariest. Was there a reason for the fear? Was it to make the success of the moment more appreciated or the failure greater lessons? All he knew was having someone in his corner during those moments had been the strength he needed. Even if he was afraid of what lay ahead he would be her strength without second thought.
