Elemental Discovery

So I'm finally about to start updating Memphis' sheet and I remember hearing this from someone or seeing it somewhere and I just wanted to know what the rule was about Elemental Discovery before I dive in...

As of right now Memphis wasn't discovered until fifth year so he was behind on training but quickly caught up, is it true that no Elementals can be discovered past 2nd year? I can change his history if its necessary (really I wouldn't mind, I didn't know when I applied for his SF so many years ago that it could change their history so he'd been an Ele all along hahah) but I just wanted to check.

So I just reread through the elemental sandbox and now I want to change my question completely.


CAN I rewrite Memphis' history so that he was found much sooner in life? hes an intelligent dedicated elemental and if he turned out to be Dilletante that would suck. xD When I originally wrote his app I didn't know it could change his history so he became an elemental at age 15, which doesnt make much such because he should of been found much sooner. Especially with knowing Alain, another elemental, who came from an Elemental line.

From what I understand, since elementals have such problems with casting more advanced wand magic they tend to be spotted at a younger age (around 2nd or 3rd year) and depending on what school you went to, it could be harder to spot an elemental because the ele presence varies depending on the school (BB ele>Durm ele> Hog ele). It seems unlikely that a student could be elemental-levels of terrible at spells and no one notices it until 5th year, but I don't think it's necessarily impossible.

But I'm just going off of what I know from my own digging for my WIP so I'm hardly an expert >.>

To answer your struck out question, the admins had a chat about late discoveries a few weeks back, and I think our general consensus was that so long as an elemental was discovered during their school years, then they wouldn't be limited to dilletantism. There have been plenty of examples played on the board who haven't been discovered til much later - indeed, nearly all of the approved discipuli were for similar reasons to your own.

We think the 2nd/3rd year thing snowballed out of a misinterpretation of the elementalism guide anyway.
