[Solved] OWLS Cancelled - NEWT Classes

My WIP Shaun's fifth year was the Chamber Of Secrets year, and at the end of it all exams were canceled. This means his OWLS were cancelled, so I was just wondering how it would be decided which NEWT level classes he would take. Would it just be whichever subjects he liked best, or would the teachers think up of grades based on their class work?

My personal view is that JK Rowling messed up big time on this one!!! I think it far more likely that Dumbledore meant that the end-of-year exams for first through fourth (and maybe sixth) years were cancelled, and the OWL and NEWT exams took place as usual. You can't mess with peoples' futures by not letting them get qualifications, and I think the Ministry of Magic would have had things to say about that. So IMO, I would be inclined to assume that OWLs did take place, and that Shaun could have continued with his best subjects in that way.
