[Solved] NEWT-related question
« on: April 18, 2016, 09:44:17 AM »
Hi, friends. I've been poking around a bit (mostly the HP Wikia, because it is like my best friend), but I figured I'd ask about something here. I have two NEWT-specific questions, although one is more general/work related!

1) Do you think a character who dropped out before 7th year could, eventually, have a sit down at their formal Ministry of Magic for their NEWTs, despite not actually having a whole 7 year education? For example, could they realize they want their NEWTs about 3-4 years after they dropped out and go and see and then sit and do them for classes they would have taken to NEWT level?

2) Secondly, what would be possible NEWT-qualifications for an Unspeakable? While I know there's probably some NEWTs required (ministry-job, obviously), there's really not much basis to go on. Would a drop out character be able to get a job as an Unspeakable if they have some sort of non-NEWT related qualifications?

1) Yes, I think that would be reasonable. We know per canon that HH&R didn't take NEWTs in their seventh year or study for them, and while those were exceptional circumstances, it's obviously possible for exams to be taken elsewhere. On MH we've certainly had characters play private tutors, so if a char decided at the age of, say, 20, that they wanted to get some qualifications so they didn't have to dig ditches for fifty years (or whatever…and I have no problem with people who actually do this for a living ;)) they should be able to study and then take the exams.

2) Good question! Um… I'll let someone else answer this I think ;)
