[Solved] Canon events and character age

Hello!

I am starting work on my first character sheet. I had in mind a fourth-year muggle-born, but I am realizing that this aligns her first year with DH/no muggle-borns at Hogwarts. Is there a standard solution to this? Should I have her receive her letter a year later than other students, could she train somewhere else [I am planning an adult witch in her young life], would she enter Hogwarts as a second year?

I know we have this thread that gives options for muggleborns! Maybe she could've transferred to Beauxbatons?

Of course, starting school her second year could also work, although if she didn't formally tutor and/or go to Beauxbatons for her first year, she'd be starting as a first year, so there's always that! There are several characters who went on the run and returned later, to repeat years when the return!

There's also the option of her finding someone to tutor her, so that when she DOES finally enter Hogwarts, she starts as a second year. Reece was already a student at Hogwarts, and I chose the running away option AND the tutoring option, so when he returned to Hogwarts after almost two years, he picked right up where he left off.

I'm sure if the admins have something else to say, they'll chime in, too!

@Reece White Thanks for the info! I saw the Muggleborn thread earlier, but just wasn't sure how the first-year thing would impact those options. If there's no official answer, I'm leaning toward first year on the run with an adult witch. She has an elderly, magical neighbor in her life who acts as a mother-substitute during her younger years already.

yeah, i think the whole muggleborn thread is the answer, or the general idea. I have a character who could be a connection if you wanted her to get to Beauxbatons. His father was sort of a ministry liaison for british students going to beauxbatons right before and during the DH playtime.

Billie has provided good options! We had a couple of students transfer to Beauxbatons - though, if I remember correctly, it was really only an option if a character's family had connections to BB (which your character may have through her neighbor) and had the money to support the transfer. The more common option was what Billie did with Reece, in having them be on the run.
Another option is something called The Ward - the details are escaping me since it's been so long, but it was essentially a secret/"underground" haven for Muggleborns during the War. To my memory, people lived there for months at a time and there were tutoring systems and such in place to help students keep up with schoolwork.
Another more obscure option was faking paperwork to pass as a Halfblood, but I don't think many people pursued that option because of the potential risk involved and also the feasibility factor - namely, an incoming Muggleborn First Year during DH would have essentially no connections necessary to go that route, while an older student may have friends with family who could connect them in that way.

I'll have to confer with the rest of the admin team on this, but I know she would have gotten a letter requiring her to register with the Muggleborn Registration Committee - though I'm not sure how the timing of the Ministry takeover would have affected her receiving an acceptance letter or not. I'll get back to you on that!
